In South Korea, K-Pop Gets New King

For 12 years, Park Jae-Sang — better known to his fans as the rapper PSY — has had a successful career in his native South Korea.

But now, thanks to the viral video for Gangnam Style, his new single, he's on top of the world.

With 180 million views and counting, it's the most-viewed Korean pop music video in YouTube's history. He's appeared on Ellen, NBC's Today Show, the MTV Video Music Awards; he's signed a deal with Justin Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun — and just today, Gangnam Style hit number one on the U.S. iTunes singles chat.

PSY spoke to weekends on All Things Considered host Guy Raz about his new success, and whether he's going to take Justin Beiber to Gangnam and celebrate in style.

"We just promise that we're gonna drink all night long," he says.

Shinhwa's Junjin confirmed to be dating, I-told-you-so's abound

A new idol couple has been born! Love has blossomed between Shinhwa‘s Jun Jin (age 32) and SPICA‘s Park Joo Hyun (age 26).

The two met through mutual acquaintances and had a close senior/junior relationship, which escalated into boyfriend/girlfriend earlier this year. Sources say, “Park Joo Hyun debuted this year and started her official SPICA activities. As her senior, Jun Jin often gave her serious advice about the entertainment industry, which allowed them to build trust in each other,” and “For a while, Jun Jin’s Kakaotalk profile picture has been an affectionate couple shot of himself and Park Joo Hyun.”

Both parties did not try to hide their relationship. Sources of Jun Jin commented, “It’s true that they are in a serious relationship but since Joo Hyun is a rookie, they are being careful.”

Jun Jin and Park Joo Hyun’s relationship is already quite well known amongst fans. Both of their names pop up in the related search terms in many search engine sites.

Much attention is being drawn since they are a new idol couple. Jun Jin is part of one of the longest running idol groups Shinhwa and Park Joo Hyun is part of SPICA, who are part of B2M Entertainment, home to Lee Hyori. SPICA has already gained much popularity for having exceptional vocal skills.

Overall reaction among the fans so far seems positive; most of the wailing and gnashing of teeth among the hardcore already happened, since his couple ring was noticed some time ago. I say good for him! Here's to Shinhwa family barbeques happening by 2020.

On September 17, MBLAQ’s Thunder announced the existence of his older sister’s Twitter account to the world.

2NE1’s Sandara Park then called him an idiot before tweeting, “Dara! The incident where she was forcibly verified by Thunder! Keke. I just wanted to quietly make an account and quietly work on it…But because I had zero followers, I whined to Thunder to follow me… and he thought he was thinking of me and announced the existence of his older sister by saying ‘This is 2NE1 Dara’s Twitter!’”

Unlike the music video which features many close-ups of the girls, the dance version shows the unique choreography for “Oh!” and emphasizes the girls’ perfect synchronization. Infinite H to promote next year

After forming hip hop unit Infinite H, Infinite members Dongwoo and Hoyawill start official promotions early next year.

According to Woolim Entertainment staff, during a phone call with TV Daily, “After Infinite returned from finishing up their Japanese promotions, Infinite Dongwoo and Hoya have recently started recording and working on the Infinite H album.”

If what the staff says is true, Infinite H is setting their goal of releasing their album early next year and have slowly started their recording and working.

Previously, Dongwoo and Hoya have shown Infinite H in front of their fans for the first time in February during the Infinite concert. On that day they received hot responses from the audience by singing ‘Crying,’ ‘You Look Good,’ etc.

On the other hand, Hoya has had a successful debut as an actor through cable channel tvN’s ‘Reply 1997’ that finished on the 18th.

Top stars such as Kang Ho Dong, Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ha Neul, Shin Dong Yeop and more will now be under one agency.

On September 19, SM C&C completed its merger with AM Entertainment as part of its strategy to extend its reach and foray into drama and video contents production.

SM C&C’s CEO, Kim Young Min shared, “We have merged with AM Entertainment, the home of Asia’s representative actors Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ha Neul, Han Ji Min and more. We plan to enlarge our video business and acting management business while targeting the Asian market.”

He added, “Additionally, with SM’s global network, AM Entertainment’s actors, and along with SM’s celebrities, we will ensure they will go beyond Asia to become global representative actors.”

SM C&C is a subsidiary of SM Entertainment and previously made headlines for signing on Kang Ho Dong and Shin Dong Yeop last month. The two entertainers will now be part of the same agency home as AM Entertainment’s actors.

Family concerts including the full roster of a particular company have been unique to the “Big 3″ companies. However, now there are more companies following in the steps of SM Town, YG Family One Concert, and JYP Nation. Other prominent companies that are the backbone of Korea’s entertainment industry are planning family concerts as well.

The concert held by Jellyfish Entertainment on the 12th at Japan’s TokyoZEPP Diver City displayed the recent trend. Even though the scale was not as large the big 3 company family concerts, the concert included Seo In Guk, Brian Joo, and VIXX, putting forth a small but solid line up.

After revealing Yunho‘s teaser image and their plans for TVXQ‘s Korean comeback on September 24th, SM Entertainment has revealed Changmin‘s teaser photo.

Their new track, “Catch Me“, will tell of an ardent love and it will be accompanied by a powerful performance. On September 19th, SM Entertainment revealed, “‘Catch Me’ will have a trendy Dutch electronic sound and incorporate a powerful orchestral melody. Stimulating the ear with a dubstep melody line, it is a fresh dance track. The lyrics are about a confident man who bids farewell to his lover, but in reality wishes that she holds on to him to prevent him from leaving. It is a song about a man pleading for his lover to show him love.”

The agency continued, “TVXQ will show off their powerful charisma and choreography as they prepare for a powerful stage that has a story. They have prepared a stage where their performance, music, and visuals are all incorporated perfectly.”

A few months back, we reported that rookie group Goddess was preparing to make their debut with a “gangster” concept. Although they were scheduled to make their debut sometime last month, it has been revealed that the date has been postponed to mid September for the group decided to re-shoot their music video to present a perfect debut project.

The girls seem to be finally ready as they have just unveiled their second music video teaser for debut track “Farewell Party“!

As mentioned previously, the girls have also been receiving pointers from top names in the field of choreography to upgrade their dance skills.

Gong Yoo to Play a [Sexy] NK Agent in Upcoming Film~!

Gong Yoo will be making his big screen comeback with “The Suspect”. On August 20, the actor’s participation has been confirmed by both parties, and with casting in its final stages, the movie will begin filming soon.

“The Suspect” marks Gong Yoo’s return to the silver screen in a year. His last movie was 2011′s “Dogani (aka “The Crucible” or “Silenced“) where he took on the role of Kang In Ho, a teacher who finds out the shocking truth about the school and what the hearing-impaired students have been enduring. On the other hand, Gong Yoo recently filled the small screen with his rom-com delightfulness, playing an 18-year-old boy trapped in a 30-year-old man’s body, in drama “Big,” co-starring Lee Min Jung.

For “The Suspect,” he will take on the role of Ji Dong Chul, a North Korean defector, who was once a top agent betrayed by his country, who becomes the main suspect in a murder case. He sets out to catch the real murderer to clear his name. The crime thriller also stars Jo Sung Ha, Park Hee Soon, Yoo Da In, and more.
