Top stars such as Kang Ho Dong, Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ha Neul, Shin Dong Yeop and more will now be under one agency.

On September 19, SM C&C completed its merger with AM Entertainment as part of its strategy to extend its reach and foray into drama and video contents production.

SM C&C’s CEO, Kim Young Min shared, “We have merged with AM Entertainment, the home of Asia’s representative actors Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ha Neul, Han Ji Min and more. We plan to enlarge our video business and acting management business while targeting the Asian market.”

He added, “Additionally, with SM’s global network, AM Entertainment’s actors, and along with SM’s celebrities, we will ensure they will go beyond Asia to become global representative actors.”

SM C&C is a subsidiary of SM Entertainment and previously made headlines for signing on Kang Ho Dong and Shin Dong Yeop last month. The two entertainers will now be part of the same agency home as AM Entertainment’s actors.

made her act in heading to the groud, put her in the basement, shoved her out of the running for 'love rain' because yoona, overall bad management of her career.

I don't understand why they thought Heading to the Ground was a good idea at any stage. There's a weird mental institution arc! In a sports drama! D: Maybe they will move Go Ahra to SM C&C where hopefully someone will care about her career? (unlike the situation rn)

me either tbh, that drama should have never seen the light of day, i think i'm only of the very few who actually saw all episodes! one can only hope tbh. she may not be an omg-amazing actress but she is good imo, in who are you she was great, plus she had an amazing chemistry yoon kye sang, i really loved that drama. and on 'papa' i could see how much she improved, she got so much better.

plus her singling, singing and dancing were really good (her dancing moves were weirdly similar to yunho's, you could see she was being truthful when she said he helped her out on that). it's been 3 years since she had been in a drama, i'm still pressed that sm knocked her out of the 'love rain' run and didn't bother to gvie her anything on 'to the beautiful you'.

omg congratulations, how did you manage that? I only got a couple episodes in before I just got bored with it, much less all of the weird stuff that went down later.

I should watch Papa. I remember being interested in it when SM released the teasers for it, but then of course I always forget about movies while I'm waiting for them to come out;;

no idea tbh, this is how much i love ahra and loved yunho (i still like him, but i'm not the stan i used to be).

you really should, it's a family movie but a really cute one!

plus it showed me that ahra really had idol potential and made me wonder what could have been if she had debuted with soshi.

they really seem to have no idea what they are doing tbh, HTTG and PR were both atrocious, i can't help but feel incredible bad ahra, yeonhee, yunho and changmin, but mostly the girls.

Her acting is not good at all. Who Are You was carried by the supporting cast along with Yoon Kye Sang. Honestly.

This is random... I have Spirited Away on the brain, since I watched it again last night (for like the 40th time). SM reminds me of No-Face going on that rampage consuming everything in its path, with little regard to who gets screwed along the way.

They have big ambitions with their eyes set on big revenue. I guess I can't knock a big business for doing it as 'well' as they do.

Jeon Hyunmoo aka that MC/announcer who'd do those funny fail SHINee dance covers in SGB also signed with SM C&C earlier.

Damn this is a surprise. Can somebody please Ara in a drama? Yeonhee had a drama recently. Time to bring out Ara, too.

Also, I wonder if all of SM's actors (Kim Minjong, Go Ara, Lee Yeonhee, etc.) will be signed with this other agency. 'Cause I always thought they're signed with SM Entertainment itself and SM C&C is just this new thing they made for Kang Hodong and the others.

sorry for bringing up the elephant in the room, but my first thought was jyj. will this lead to more blacklisting if they manage to get a better hold in the drama industry? :/ obviously it's a good move for sm though in terms of diversifying and becoming more of a conglomerate in the entertainment business.

I was just wondering about that...I wonder if this will only further their JYJ cockblocking?

There goes my Yoochun x Han Ji Min OTP.

Not really, though they have some big names under their company, if their big names don't bring in rating and sell overseas, they won't matter much. Drama industry is different from music. They won't be able to threatened stations with a few big names. And currently, there are some rising stars that are very capable of acting as well as bringing in the ratings. Directors and stations are more willing to build up new rising stars if veteran one bringing them problems.

SME can't figure out a way to crack the drama industry, that's probably why they merged with an acting company, hoping it could help them with the connections already there. But if with this company, but they still use their old ways of working, then it'll be a waste of money and won't go anywhere. They have to give their talents better roles, and stop dumbing down their dramas that they produced. And stop sticking to one way of filming, using their matrix cameras. Lord, them in the drama industry will be like them in the music videos department. If one formula sells, they'll keep using it and milking it, with some differences, but with use of matrix cameras. Thank god, the drama industry is extremely competitive, and require different structures in almost every drama in order to be different and 'unique'.

SME definitely got the variety and music industry lock down. Drama industry will be very very hard. Though it seemed like they have been buying or merging with so many companies through recent years. They want to be a conglomerate really badly.

I agree completely.

haha, lmao. Yeah, for that, I'm glad.

Just that if big names like Hyun Bin really sign on with them, I have to wonder. However, I can't imagine big name actors bowing down to SM when they earn so much already--in the sense that in theory, it should be more of the actors picking which dramas they want to act in than which dramas the company wants them to act in.

Finally, I admit that probably only Yoochun will get the chance to work with the bigger names anyways (at this moment anyways because that's how they rank in terms of their acting, putting all my bias aside lol).

I don't think so..

cause I doubt big name like Jang Dong Gun, Han Ji Min, and Kim Ha Neul are willing to be used as a trade off, beside their old contract still valid. But you will see more sme idol got featured in drama though. That for sure.

I'm starting to worry about JYJ. Anyhow, if I was an actor I wouldn't want to be under SM 'cause if at some point there would be a dispute between me and the company I would have no chance of winning (I mean just look at how they are dragging JYJ case in the court). Also when SM is displeased with you or think you aren't making enough profit they will just stop completely even trying to find you jobs and you can't do anything about it until your contract has ended.

Let's hope the management stay the same because SM's first foray in to Drama is a big disappointment, and honestly I don't think Sm have the biggest interest in the Actor's careers.
