Famous designer Jeremy Scott showed his support for his favorite K-Pop girl group, 2NE1, via Twitter.
Jeremy Scott urged his followers and fellow Blackjacks to vote for 2NE1 on a recent poll that took place on Global Mnet which asked, “Who is the No.1 girl group in K-Pop world?”. He tweeted with his usual all-caps style while tagging 2NE1, “C’OMON BLACKJACKS U KNOW WHAT TO DO !!! VOTE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT !!!“.
But in the end Girls’ Generation took 1st place on the poll with over 51,000 votes (42.6%) while 2NE1 came in second with over 47,000 votes (39.5%).
In response, the designer expressed his disappointment and tried to console himself and fellow Blackjacks by mentioning that as there are more members in Girls’ Generation, it is more likely that they are able to obtain more votes.
Jeremy Scott’s strong support for 2NE1 is not new as they have built their close-knit relationship collaborating with one another for various events with the designer even creating outfits for the girls’ first world tour.

Regarding T-ara Eunjung's receiving of an unilateral notice of termination from the drama production company, the Korean Entertainment Management Association (KEMA) has expressed its position.
The KEMA on the 23rd published to the media an article titled "Opinion on the Unreasonable Unilateral Breach of TV Drama Contract"
According to this article, for the success of Five Fingers, Eunjung had given up her other schedules, including overseas activities, showing her sincerity to fully participate in the drama production, but the production team of "Five Fingers" on the 21st, requested with no legitimate reason, that Eunjung leave the drama on her own accord, mentioning that if she did not comply with the request, they would put pressure on Eunjung and her agency.
Eunjung's side did not understand this, and requested for a reason for withdrawal, but the production team only referred to the modification clause of the contract stating that the situation was not in the best interests of the drama production.
The KEMA stated "If it is necessary to change the cast during drama production, it should be be discussed with the actor under the premise of mutual understanding and negotiation, but the production team and SBS on the 22nd did not relate any information to Eunjung about her withdrawal, but announced her termination through the media"
It also stated "Through various evidence and proof, this association has verified and is shocked by this oppressive act of the production team."
The KEMA said "This association works to improve the practices of drama production and to develop a healthy industry by eradicating old practices. Therefore, from a few years ago, starting with the problems of unpaid acting fees, this association has worked to improve such unreasonable contracts and practices." "Such efforts can been seen in the 'Drama Production Standard Acting Contract' project developed along with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
KEMA's article concluded by stating "We will advocate for Ham Eunjung's rights to restore her reputation as she has been unreasonably harmed as described above. To ensure that all relevant parties in this incident will not be harmed, we anticipate a reasonable solution from the drama production team."

Beneath the catchy dance beat and hilarious scenes of Seoul's poshest neighborhood, there might be a subtle message about wealth, class, and value in South Korean society.

Park Jaesang is an unlikely poster boy for South Korea's youth-obsessed, highly lucrative, and famously vacuous pop music. Park, who performs as Psy (short for psycho), is a relatively ancient 34, has been busted for marijuana and for avoiding the country's mandatory military service, and is not particularly good-looking. His first album got him fined for "inappropriate content" and the second was banned. He's mainstream in the way that South Korea's monolithically corporate media demands of its stars, who typically appear regularly on TV variety and even game shows, but as a harlequin, a performer known for his parodies, outrageous costumes, and jokey concerts. Still, there's a long history of fools and court jesters as society's most cutting social critics, and he might be one of them.
( "nuanced satire" apparently )
The Atlantic
TL;DR but there were some interesting things here about Korean culture that I didn't know about. it definitely added a new dimension to the video, and provides /some/ explanation to its popularity (which is baffling to me personally).

Ham Eunjung, after being forced to leave her drama, has fallen into silence. Eunjung was scheduled to film on the 23rd for SBS's Weekend Drama "Five Fingers" but on the 22nd received a sudden termination notice from the production company. Management Koo, the angency that handles Eunjung's acting activities, said "Since yesterday afternoon, Eunjung has been staying with her family" "She is reluctant to communicate with the outside world and seems to want to observe quietly for now."
On the morning of the 22nd, Eunjung had prepared her hairstyle and practised piano etc, preparing for her first filming. But because of the news of her being dropped from the drama, she fell into a daze, overwhelmed with shock, and returned to her home situated in Nonhyeon Dong, Gangnam, Seoul.
Instead of close acquaintances, Eunjung chose to seek comfort from her family to overcome this crisis. Eunjung's mother was also a child actress and so has personal experience of the hardships that actors must experience. Management Koo's words "Isn't family the most able to give her strength and support?" expressed Eunjung's condition on the 23rd
Ham Eunjung will be replaced by "Bridal Mask's" Jin Seyeon who will begin shooting immediately

Music Bank tries to censor KARA
2012-08-23 04:29 pm
KARA may face some censorship by KBS ‘Music Bank‘.
With recent concerns about the sexual nature of of KARA’s new song, there may be another road block along the way for the group. On the 23rd, a representative of ‘Music Bank’ stated, “If we feel the need, we will ask for either the clothes or the dance to be changed.”
The girl group just recently released the MV for their new track, “Pandora“. However, one of their dance moves where they remove their jackets to reveal their backs had become a controversial. Their outfits were short and tight, comparable to a swimming suit, and the way they revealed the backs of their nude colored shirts gave off the illusion of a backless outfit.
The girls performed the choreography at their showcase on August 22nd. Though the outfits may seem innocent enough by themselves, there are a total of 3 instances where the girl group takes off their jackets during the song, and it may not be appropriate for their upcoming KBS2 ‘Music Bank’ comeback stage.
A representative at ‘Music Bank’ stated, “We are more conservative than other broadcasting companies about the nature of clothes and dances, not just for KARA but for all groups. This is because of our broadcast is rated for those 15 years and older. And as much as this has become an issue, we will ask for changes to be made if we feel [the dance] pushes the limitations.”
The rep continued, “We will make our decision after seeing the choreography in person.”
Music Bank is known to strictly regulate racier performances that are not actually based on the song, and even request outfit adjustments during rehearsals. In the past, 4minute and Rania were both asked to change their choreography because of moves that required the girls to spread their legs, and even KARA’s label mate Rainbow was once censored for their ‘bellybutton dance’.

MBC's Thousandth Man producer tweets about SBS's decision to drop T-ara's Eunjung due to issues with sponsors

"To drama producers, issues of production sponsorship, product placement, etc are no doubt important, but to tamper with the drama’s plan for these issues is not the way. A production that succeeds relying on despicable things, is very muddled. Although the production sponsorship for The Thousandth Man is zero ㅠ I will not give up. Money is something that you will have when you work harder."

Some of the B1A4 members are coming under fire for lacking certain knowledge.
Currently starring in the KBS Joy baby-raising variety program, B1A4’s Hello Baby, the members of B1A4 recently participated in a battle quiz over their knowledge of Seoul.
However, as the quiz progressed, the members were found often stumped on what many considered some of the most basic knowledge of current events and history.
When asked for the members to list the name of Seoul’s current mayor, member CNU was the only one who could answer correctly, ‘Park Won Soon’ while other gave responses such as, ‘Park Won Kyu’, ‘Kim Moon Soo (the name of Gyeonggi-do’s governor)’ and even ‘The Seoul Mayor’.
The members didn’t fare any better on questions like, ‘Name the five palaces in Seoul’ with many failing to answer correctly.
Following the episode’s airing, netizens took to the show′s board to criticize the members, calling them unlearned and ignorant.
The issue grew to the point a response was made by the show’s production.
In it, it cited that most of the B1A4 members were non-Seoul citizens and as such, were a little lacking in knowledge of the Seoul area and history.
It added that the members had spent a difficult time as trainees in Seoul, not even having their own cell phones and asked that viewers continue to watch as the members learn more about Seoul as they continue living in Korea′s capital.
B1A4 recently released the track Hey Girl for the One Thousandth Man drama OST and is currently preparing its next album.

Girl group KARA’s music video teaser for the new song “Pandora” was released online on Monday. However, this 20-second teaser displayed something that it never did before: a “15” rating sign in the top right corner of the screen.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced early this month that starting last Saturday, all music videos must be rated before being uploaded to YouTube or any other Web portal. The new measure is an attempt to protect minors from the “highly sexual or violent content” of music videos that oftentimes become hugely popular on the Internet after being banned from television, according to the ministry. A music video without a rating by the Korea Media Ratings Board could result in a maximum two-year prison sentence or 20 million won ($17,600) fine.
“It is a measure initiated by the National Assembly in order to regulate the unfiltered flow of music videos online that tend to contain more explicit or violent materials than TV programs and to protect minors from them,” the Culture Ministry said in a statement Aug. 7.
Under the new system, the producer or distributor of a music video must display the age-group rating for at least three seconds at the beginning of a video, according to the ministry. The new rule does not apply to private individuals.

Sooyoung, along with her co-stars Kim Minjung, Oh Jiho, and Kim Seungwoo from her upcoming drama, “The 3rd Hospital”, were featured in the September issue of “Singles” Magazine. The cast took part in a photoshoot as well as a fun interview that showed their playful and comfortable relationship with each other. The first episode of “The 3rd Hospital” will air on September 5th at 11PM KST on tvN.
I heard Girls’ Generation’s Yuri and Sooyoung held a birthday party for Kim Minjung. I assume you would have been jealous that she has a fixed member, while the job of actors is a lonely one, always having to move alone.
Kim Minjung: That’s right. Because Girls’ Generation members are close, they visited the set often. It was interesting, and I was jealous thinking about how they could give each other strength.
There are a lot of members who have doubled as actresses, do they give you acting advice, too?
Oh Jiho: Sooyoung is the best at acting.
( Oh Jiho and cast think Sooyoung is the best Soshi actor, Sooyoung's self-confidence is overflowing, 3rd Hospital supposed to air before LR and FK, and pics under the cut! )
