“What we need for the growth of our music industry is not expediency but rather the syndrome within the market”.

The music industry’s straight shooter Cho PD slammed the practices of album ‘Bulk buying’, believed to be practiced by certain labels. He didn’t name the label in specific nor did he point his finger to a specific group, but his statement is sure to make quite the controversy in the coming days.

The album bulk buying is a form a scam believed to be practiced by some of the labels, it is sometimes carried out with the help of their fan club or they hire a 3rd party who does the buying for them. The labels then win the 1st place on TV music programs with their groups and they put their name out there, winning endorsement deals, TV contracts and so forth. Many industry insiders attest that it’s a secret that everyone knows, but the judgment is still out there.

The Finn’s Lee Hyang Ik has regained a bit of consciousness after being in a coma for the past two weeks.

On January 30, Lee, a Hongdae-based indie band guitarist, was heading home when he was rear-ended by another car. He was unconscious by the time the paramedics arrived and was immediately transported to a general hospital in Sanggye-dong.

In a recent phone conversation with enews, a spokesperson from the band’s agency, Ruby Salon, said, "Lee Hyang Ik has finally opened his eyes. Although he hasn′t fully regained consciousness, there was movement in his fingers and we remain optimistic that his condition will improve."

A doctor at the hospital stated, “A non-severe brain hemorrhage was found during the examination but Lee had no other noticeable external injuries. We can’t identify the exact cause of his unconsciousness but we will continue to monitor his condition.”

The Finn, composed of Lim Jang Hyeon and Lee Hyang Ik, has released three albums, which include Beatles over Zeppelin and Album of the Year. The band′s February schedule has been put on hold while Lee recovers from his coma.

GIVING on to one of the Cambodian capital’s grand, crumbling boulevards is an unusually modern, unfeasibly clean building: the home of the South Korean embassy’s commercial section. It is also noticeably big, indicative of South Korea’s growing economic ties with one of the poorest countries in the region. Officials point out that two of South Korea’s biggest banks opened here in 2009, and South Korean engineers are building Phnom Penh’s highest building. South Korean investments, though impressive, lag behind the Chinese and Japanese ones, but relative to South Korea’s size, the embassy’s staff like to think that they are not doing badly.

Besides the usual commercial ties, however, South Korea has been cultivating another, equally significant, link with Cambodia. Impressed by the economic success of South Korea over the past decades, Cambodian officials and businessmen are now flocking to Seoul, South Korea’s capital, to find out how the country has done it. And the South Koreans, proud of their achievements and eager to tell the world, are doing everything they can to oblige. It is an effective exercise of “soft” power. Chinese success is more talked about. But China is such an unusually large and atypical country that other Asians are not sure that the Chinese model, if it really exists, is readily exportable. Japan, sadly, has lost its lustre. Midsized South Korea, however, fits the bill nicely.

Gaming addiction is no laughing matter: addicted gamers have lost their jobs, their spouses, and in rare cases, their lives, for non-stop gaming in a virtual world rather than living in the actual one. In late 2011, the South Korean government took steps to curb videogame addiction by creating its “shutdown” law, which prevents gamers under 16 from playing online games between midnight and 6 am. But that might not be the only step it takes.

South Korea may implement an additional law, the “cooling off” law. According to MSNBC,

“…the Cooling Off system will cause a game to be shut down automatically after two hours of being played. Gamers can log back in, but only after 10 minutes to “rest,” and only once per 24 hours. It was not specified how long the second session will last, but it is presumed to be no longer than the initial time allotted.

However, the reason behind the “cooling off” law isn’t to save the healths of gamers. No, this law may come into effect to…prevent bullying?

Kotaku notes that the South Korean government ties videogame addiction to bullying in schools. But it has not provided evidence (such as studies and papers) that prove videogames lead to bullying.

From personal experience, I would say that the gamers are less likely to become bullies and more likely to become victims of bullying. (Of course, gamers talk all kinds of smack when behind the keyboard. It would be naive to think that no gamer has ever threatened another player from the comfort of home or a PC bang.)

Considering that many gamer deaths stem from exhaustion, deep-vein thrombosis, and other ways that can be prevented by standing up and moving around, a ten-minute period away from the computer might be a good idea. But having statistics based on psychological studies, about gaming addiction and its potentially resultant bullying, is an even better one.

Park Yoo Hwan has finally made the lead of a drama. (He has appeared in three different dramas) The interesting part about his upcoming role is the fact that he will be portraying an idol star.

The K-Pop drama that Park Yoo Hwan will be appearing in is titled “Ultimate Survival” and he will play the character “Woo Hyun.”

Woo Hyun is a part of the idol group “m2” and is currently one of the leaders of Hallyu. On the outside it appears like he is cute and receives the love of female fans. However, inside he does not care about fans at all and has a “rough” personality.

Due to the fact that Park Yoo Hwan needs to portray an idol star, he needs to show his dancing and singing skills. C-Jes Entertainment stated, “In order for him to absorb the role of an idol star, he is currently receiving training for singing, dancing, and boxing.
