Girl group 2NE1 has received recognition of their status as global stars. 2NE1 has been chosen as one of the ten shortlisted bands in American music channel MTV's "Best New Band in the World."
The other bands include Britain's Ghostpoet, Jamaica's Gyptian, America's Skrillex, and Malaysia's Yuna. Hailing from countries from Australia to New Zealand and Venezuela, 2NE1 is essentially South Korea's representative artist on this ranking. Currently, voting is still ongoing on MTV's website.
This annual program can be considered a good opportunity for artistes to enter the American mainstream pop industry. Far East Movement, who achieved number one on the Billboard charts, penetrated the American market through this program.
Meanwhile, 2NE1 is currently in the midst of promotional activities in Japan. They have attained number one on the Oricon charts and are receiving considerable attention from the public. The world looks set for them to conquer!

On October 2nd, 2NE1 brought the “fire” and successfully completed their debut Japanese tour in Chiba!
2NE1 held six concerts during their ‘2NE1 First Japan Tour – NOLZA’ at three locations, including Yokohama Arena (9/19 ~ 9/20), Kobe World Commemoration Hall (9/24 ~ 9/25), and Chiba’s Makuhari Messe Hall. The concerts attracted an impressive figure of 70,000 fans.
YG Entertainment stated, “2NE1 brought in 70,000 spectators within a single month after their first promotional appearance on Asahi TV’s ‘Music Station’. …Achieving this kind of record during a Japan debut tour is rare.”
That’s not their only impressive achievement in Japan, however. 2NE1 reached #1 on Japan’s Oricon ‘Daily Album Chart’ with their debut album ‘Nolza’, and also became the first Korean artist to reach #1 on the weekly chart with a debut album.
2NE1 will release their 1st single in Japan on November 16th.

If the recent controversy regarding KBS‘s new lesbian drama is any indicator, it’s not easy for actors to take on characters of the LGBT genre. Korean society isn’t as open or accepting of dramas with such themes, which is why the dramas will often times be dumped altogether before it even has a chance to hit airwaves.
Still, top stars like Jo In Sung, Joo Jin Mo, Kim Nam Gil, and Hwang Jung Min have fared better in their roles as gay characters, but at what costs? Rookie actor Go Dae Hyun recently sat down with E-Daily concerning his role as a gay character in the movie “I Envy You“. He discussed some of the psychological effects he’s had following the movie’s completion.
Go Dae Hyun was praised for his role in the film, which was entered in the Junju International Film Festival back in 2008. “In the movie, there was a kiss scene and a light bed scene. After I finished the film, it took me two months to let myself go from the character. I was depressed to the point of having to rely on alcohol.”

Actor Joo Ji Hoon will finally be returning to his fans in November following his discharge from the military!
After being involved in a drug scandl back in 2009, the actor decided to enlist in the military in 2010, and signed an exclusive contract with Key East Entertainment earlier this year.
Although Joo Ji Hoon is forbidden from making on-air appearances on both KBS and MBC, plans for his return to the industry seem to be on track, as a representative from his agency revealed, “After being discharged from the military in November, he will be holding a fan meeting on November 27th and resume his activities“, marking his comeback after a long 3-year hiatus.
Joo Ji Hoon is known for his roles in previous hit works such as ‘Princess Hours (Goong)‘ and ‘Antique‘, and fans’ anticipations for the actor’s comeback are higher than ever.

U-KISS‘s Soohyun chose Han So Young as the genuine girl he would like to date.
The September 29th broadcast of QTV‘s ‘Women Ranking Season 4‘, featured both single men and women while highlighting the topic, “Marriage No!, Who do you want to only date?”
Soo Hyun ranked Han So Young as his top choice in the woman he would like to date. Soohyun confessed, “Since she is young and has excellent fitness, I can play with her long into the night. I know her as a bagel girl so I want her to show it off when we date, which is why I chose her.”
Lee Hwi Jae responded, “When you date, she’s a bagel, but then when you marry her, she’s bread,” which caused much laughter in the studio.
For those that don’t know, a girl is referred to as “Bagel” when she has a baby face while also having a beautiful curvacious body.
Meanwhile, Soohyun ranked Ahn Sun Young 6th as the woman he would like to date the most, while his fellow member Eli chose her as 1st.

The fanbase of idol star Uee of After School has grown diverse in demographics.
As a member of popular idol girl-group After School, Uee already has a large following of young fans. But now as an acting newcomer, Uee is gaining fans from the older generation.
Uee is currently starring in the KBS weekend drama “Ojakkyo Brothers,” whose viewer rating is reaching almost 30%. Her pre-produced drama, “Birdie Buddy” is also showing strong numbers on the cable networktvN.“It’s really fascinating when grandmother and grandfathers recognize me as they walk past me,” Uee revealed in this interview. In a happy reflection Uee said, “To them, I am a new actress, the girl in that ‘Ojakkyo’ drama.”
