Broadcasting company SBS announced recently that they’re creating a new audition program titled, “K-pop Star“, to find members of a brand new idol group.
A representative revealed, “SBS will be beginning a new audition program called “K-pop Star” in the latter half of this year to form a new idol group. SBS will be raking in the greatest production cost in the history of our variety show programs in order to find the next generation idol group who will lead the Hallyu Wave. They are currently in the midst of finalizing details, and will soon be ready to undergo active preparations for the show.”
Audition programs that have aired on TV networks include Mnet’s “Superstar K”, MBC’s “The Great Rebirth”, and KBS 2TV’s “Top Band”. While the former two shows pick only one winner to become a future solo artist, “Top Band” is a show that picks the best band out of preexisting groups.
On the other hand, the main purpose of “K-Pop Star” will be to pick a group of talented individuals which will then be set on making a debut as an idol group.
A program representative expressed, “Keeping in pace with the Hallyu Boom that is not only widespread in Asia but also overflowing to Europe, we will be forming an idol group that will be the successors of the current Hayllu Wave. Whether it will be a mixed group or an all-male/all-female group, that will be decided according to the direction of the audition show.”
SBS plans to recruit famous singers and associates of the music and broadcasting industry for the show’s judging panel.

Universal Music Korea is on a huge deleting spree people, so get it while it's there.
Yu Byong-han, who took office on Friday, said he will expand its overseas offices from the current three in Beijing, Shanghai and Bangkok to other destinations including Los Angeles and Vietnam to enhance monitoring of Korean copyright.
According to KCC data, about 80 percent of China’s 10 major portals and websites for music and video were providing Korean content illegally.
“We’ve just commissioned a report to a related organization, to find out in detail how Korean content is illegally copied and spread overseas. We’ll develop an index to measure it and the method will be out within the year,” Yu told reporters at a press conference in Seoul.
The quick spread of YouTube clips and advancement of cloud music services can be a double-edged sword for Korean copyright holders, as the Korean Wave is gaining popularity on the back of social networking sites and cloud-enabled smartphones.

TVXQ, “To Grace The Cover Of Rolling Stone’s August Issue Feels Great”

TVXQ have become the first Korean singers to grace the cover of Rolling Stone. Considering the fact that it is hard for even Japanese celebrities to be on the cover, regardless of the fact that it is the Japanese version of the magazine, this is an achievement that is meaningful and should be noted.
Most importantly, TVXQ’s popularity seemed to have been drooping slightly from their top Hallyu star status when some of the members filed an exclusive contract suspension lawsuit against SM Entertainment. However, U-Know Yunho and Choikang Changmin, who are keeping the name of TVXQ alive, have proven their undiminished popularity as idols and as Koreans by gracing the cover of Rolling Stone.
The Japanese version of Rolling Stone has had only ten Japanese celebrities on its cover, starting with Nakashima Mika in 2008. This further proves TVXQ’s influence in Japan as their appearance on the magazine’s cover is unusual.
A representative of SM stated, “We heard that it isn’t easy for even Japanese stars to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. It feels great to see TVXQ grace the cover of the popular magazine.”
The August issue of Rolling Stone will be available on the 8th.

The first track - titled XXOK - off their full-length album, Access OK, has been banned by the major Korean TV networks - reason being that that the ‘XX’ in XXOK might have had hidden connotations.
Their label has tried to explain that XXOK is (The) Koxx spelled in reverse. Moreover, the band had decided to name their album Access OK as it sounded similar to the title. It was merely a play on words and there were no implied meanings intended, but the networks ultimately did not comply.

their album's single for those that have not heard of the koxx. fyi, this is not the song that's been banned.
