MBC’s “Idol Star Athletics Championship” will be back for next year’s Chuseok holiday, but will be changing its theme into “Idol Swimming Championships“.

MBC’s representative revealed on the 28th, “We’ve decided to organize the ‘Idol Special Championships’ next year as well. It’s something we’ve discussed ever since the program was still in its production stage. If viewers didn’t show us so much support, we would’ve just considered it, but thankfully the response was substantial enough for us to decide to broadcast it every year. The show was competing against other dramas, but still managed to create a new viewer base with the teens.”

He went on to state, “We are preparing a special swimming championship for next year.”

Viewers seemed to be highly entertained seeing 130 of their favorite idols running around and enjoying their time with their friends. Seems like UEE got her wish granted for next year!

Tablo appears on a special episode of "MBC Special," which is scheduled to be aired on Oct. 1.

With the country’s major broadcaster MBC planning to air a special episode on singer-songwriter Tablo who has been mired in a diploma forgery scandal, internet users ― who believe Tablo “lied” about his graduation from Stanford University ― have filed a court injunction to put a hold on the program’s airing saying that the content of the program could unfairly influence the on-going prosecutor’s investigation into Tablo’s case.

The Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation’s TV program “MBC Special” on Sept. 24 released a teaser of the special episode “Tablo Goes to Stanford,” showing footage of the singer and producers of the program visiting Stanford University.

The teaser also showed the pop star, who has been avoiding public appearances for several months, speaking to the camera in a short interview, saying, “It’s not that they can’t believe me. They just don’t want to believe me.”

Few days ago, Super Junior members went on a vacation. We played football together, and we enjoyed ourselves very much. In the end, Leeteuk’s team lost, so his team members were being pushed into the water by us, it was really fun! What I want to say is…I really don’t want us to separate, and I hope that we can always be together like now. Manager hyung said the way I expressed my feelings was so touching and doesn’t sound like me, so I replied “because I still want to play football with the members.”

Few days ago, I went on a vacation with our members. The air is so refreshing! I went back to Hoengseong to visit my grandmother and other relatives, and I’ve also met with my old friends there. SHINee 2nd Repackage “Hello,” Release on the 30th

Male idol group SHINee’s 2nd repackage album title track “Hello” will be released on the 30th at 10:00AM KST through Melon, Dosirak, Bugs, Cyworld, and various other music sites.

“Hello,” a trendy R&B pop song featuring a sophisticated pop sound with lyrics expressing the fluttering sensation of love that one feels for his special someone, presents a bright and smooth charm with refreshing vocals which make an impression.

Furthermore, including the 2nd repackage album title track “Hello,” a total of 3 new songs will be included. “One” is a soft R&B ballad which further emphasizes the voices of each individual SHINee member and “Get It” is a hip-hop track, with a heavy drum base composition and a tension-raising arrangement being its distinctions. The lyrics for “Get It” were written by members Minho and Key, with the participation of rapper Ceejay and singer Gilme.

The 2nd repackage album, which will have a total of 16 tracks with the inclusion of 3 new songs in addition to the 13 from the original 2nd album, will be released on October 4th.

Seohyun & Jung Yonghwa's Date in Japan

Imaginary couple Seohyun (SNSD) and Jung Yonghwa (CNBlue) had a rendezvous in Saitama, Japan during their Chuseok holiday for the program “We Got Married”.

The schedule for SNSD and CNBlue’s promotions and concerts overlapped, so they were able to go on a date in Japan. Last week SNSD had promotion events for their first Japanese single “Genie”. CNBlue will be performing in clubs in places like Nagoya, Osaka and Tokyo starting from the 15th. It will be in commemoration of their one year anniversary since their debut.

Fans were present at the place of their intimate date in Japan. Later, pictures were uploaded onto the internet and gained a lot of attention. The staff there said, “I am surprised by Seohyun’s Japanese conversation ability. Even though they’re just here for a trip, it really wasn’t an inconvenience to her. She has a good grasp of Japanese,” and “Since they were filming overseas, it appeared as if they were more comfortable here than on their dates in Korea. The expression of their love looked more natural.”

Jung Yonghwa and Seohyun’s date in Japan is scheduled to air next month on the 9th.

Big Bang's First Official Photobook

Popular 5 member Korean unit BIGBANG will release their first official photobook “BIGBANG PRESENTS ELECTRIC LOVE TOUR 2010” (Gentosha, 2800 yen, ~33 USD).

The photobook will be from their Japan Tour in February. They had 6 performances and a total of 50,000 people attended. The cameraman gets full coverage of their rehearsals, back stage, and their main performances. The book is considered an “Epic” with 208 all color pages and a total of 354 pictures.

There will also be a long interview with the 5 members included. Leader G-DRAGON (22) said, “It would make me happy if you all could take advantage of this and understand us more deeply and know what we humanly think about.”

KBS is seeking to bring about a change in the sluggish teenage program scene with its new series “Jungle Fish 2” this week. Hopes are running high, but with numerous shows captivating the younger crowd these days, it will take more than pretty school uniforms and fresh faces to keep the viewers watching.

A bumpy road

When it comes to television programs for teens in Korea, there’s not much to show other than entertainment or music shows starring idol stars. Perhaps because it’s hard to come up with something more exciting than texting with their friends or following around their favorite celebrities, teenage programming overall has seen a slump.

“It’s sad, indeed. There are really not many teenage dramas, let alone programs, for teens to enjoy,” producer Kim Jeong-hwan told The Korea Times in a separate interview at the press conference for the new soap on Sept. 16 at the KBS Media Center in Sangam-dong.

BoA closes her Twitter because of SHINee fans?

BoA was recently caught up in a controversy with SHINee fans for “spoiling SHINee’s comeback” through her Twitter, causing her to eventually set her Twitter account to private on September 29th.

On the 26th, BoA tweeted, “Inkigayo has come to an end, and  Chuseok has come to an end. Next week is our shining SHINee’s comeback! I  won’t be lonely in the waiting rooms anymore.”

The problem lies in that SHINee fans were displeased with BoA  spoiling the release of SHINee’s repackaged album and comeback date.  Various community sites began spreading rumors that SHINee’s comeback  date was set earlier than planned due to BoA’s spoiler, causing her to  receive many hateful replies from netizens.

On the 28th, BoA attempted to clarify the situation by tweeting, “You  know that our company won’t just change SHINee’s comeback date because  of my tweet, right? I tweeted it in support of the members, and articles  regarding their comeback were released today as well.”



Despite BoA’s clarification, SHINee fans did not stop their attacks, causing BoA to eventually set her account to private.

Netizens expressed their disappointment in the situation by stating, “BoA loves Twitter, did you really have to go as far as to make her close it?” “Are you guys happy now?” and “They’re just supporting each other, why are the fans so angry?”
