NKorea warns South Korea of retaliation

North Korea condemned a recent U.S. pledge to provide nuclear defense of South Korea, saying Thursday that the move boosts its justification to hold onto atomic bombs and invites a potential "fire shower of nuclear retaliation."

The salvo in Pyongyang's main Rodong Sinmun newspaper was the North's latest reaction to last week's summit between President Barack Obama and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak. The allies issued a joint statement committing the U.S. to defend the South with nuclear weapons.

It also came as an American destroyer trailed a North Korean ship suspected of shipping weapons in violation of a U.N. resolution punishing Pyongyang's May 25 nuclear test, and as anticipation mounted that the North might test-fire short- or mid-range missiles.

The North's newspaper claimed in a lengthy commentary that the "nuclear umbrella" commitment made it more likely for the U.S. to mount a nuclear attack on the communist North, and only "provides us with a stronger justification to have nuclear deterrent."

It also amounts to "asking for the calamitous situation of having a fire shower of nuclear retaliation all over South Korea" in case of a conflict, the paper said. "It is as clear as daylight that South Korea cannot survive under that nuclear umbrella."

In a separate editorial marking the 1950 outbreak of the Korean War, the Rodong said the North "will never give up nuclear deterrent no matter what others say and will further strengthen it" as long as Washington remains hostile toward it.

The brutal fighting ended after three years in a truce in 1953, not a peace treaty, leaving the peninsula divided and in a state of war. The U.S. has 28,500 troops in South Korea to protect against an outbreak of hostilities.

North Korea has long claimed that the U.S. is plotting to invade it and has used the claim to justify its development of nuclear weapons. On Wednesday, Pyongyang accused Washington of seeking to "provoke a second Korean War," saying it will "wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all."

The U.S. has repeatedly said it has no intention of attacking the North.

There have been many opinons on the appearance of Super Junior and SNSD on MBC's 'Music Trip Lalala,' especially on their homepage bulletin board.

On the 25th, Super Junior and SNSD appeared on 'Lalala,' following the theme of 'Sounds Like Teen Spirit.' From Super Junior, Leeteuk, Kangin, Yesung, Sungmin, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun performed, and from SNSD, Taeyeon, Jessica, Tiffany, Sunny, and Seohyun. The two groups sang each other's hit songs such as 'Sorry Sorry' and 'Gee' in a different style.

The problem is that the fans of 'Lalala' are becoming disappointed in the program. So far, 'Lalala' had a concept of having the best quality music, with singers like Lee Seungyul, Lee Janghyuk, Black Skirt, and more skilled musicians who aren't widely known. As a program that is broadcasted at a late hour, it is true that it's free from the competition of viewers' rates.

However on the 25th, Super Junior and SNSD appeared together as idol groups from the same company. Technically, idol singers are put into the category of musicians, but compared to the quality of their music, their commerciality is more considered and emphasized. On the 18th, singer Son Dambi appeared, but Shin Munhee, Jiteun, and Ran appeared also, keeping a balance in the commerciality.

That is why on 'Lalala's internet bulliten board, there are many voices speaking up. Many opinions such as "Lalala has given up" and "Will Lalala break down like this" are on the bulliten board. However, there are other remarks opposing them, saying, "A skilled idol group's appearance" and "Let's break the stereotype of idol groups."

Crown J Works With Lee Hyun Do, Droppin' Single End of June. America Debut? Yall Dig?

It seems like Crown J is working with Duece member Lee Hyun Do to release his American single.

Crown J revealed that he and Lee Hyun Do finished the single in LA recently. The song has a taste of American Southern hiphop flavor. The song 'I'm Good' was to display a bit of Crown J's artistic abilities and send out a positive vibe. There will be a separate version for fans in Korea and the Korean fans here in the states.

Crown J is expected to tour 6 cities in United States: New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and San Francisco.

After his previous contract issues were settled, he went back to Atlanta and formed a independent label "Fly Boy Entertainment."

Big Bang Japanese Single Release Event Ended After Just 5 Minutes

An event for the release of Big Bang’s Japanese major first single ‘My Heaven’ was ended abruptly after 5 minutes in front of 2000 fans. They were at Tokyo Aoumi Business port church compound for the single release event on 24th June but 2,000 fans turned when the compound can only accommodate for 400 fans.

So in the end, for safety purpose, the event was called off after 5 minutes. This was described as ‘big panick’ by local newspaper, and the boys’ popularity in Japan can be clearly seen from this event.

The event was meant to start at 5.30pm but from early morning, there has been fans waiting at the venue.

After the event having to be called off after 5 minutes, Big Bang members did a short interview in their rest room. TaeYang said, “We are really sorry for fans who waited.” GDragon said, “It is a pity for this event. We promise that there will be other opportunities to meet.” SeungRi also said, “We were still thinking about how to carry out the event well.”

The boys’ Japanese debut song ‘My Heaven’ went to #4 on Oricon chart on the day it is released, and they will also be releasing a 2nd single ‘Gara Gara GO’ on 8th July.

Big Bang’s promo picture for ‘Sudden Attack,’ one of the most popular online FPS (First Person Shooter) video games in Korea, was just released.

Big Bang is not only endorsing ‘Sudden Attack’ but appearing in it as well. All five members of Big Bang will have their own character in the online FPS, which they each did voice overs for.Big Bang recorded over 80 lines of dialogue and sound effects for their characters in the game. They also improvised a few lines during their voice over recording session so all the member’s personalities and characteristics will be incorporated into each one of their ‘Sudden Attack’ characters.

The developers of ‘Sudden Attack’ hope to have Big Bang’s characters available for online gamers no later than next fall.

I have to admit that almost all of the members of Big Bang actually managed to pull off the badass look in the photo. TOP is holding his gun correctly (for once), Taeyang and Seungri both have that solider style stoic look, and Daesung successfully dropped that goofy, happy-go-lucky expression he always has on his face and he looks like he’s ready to bust a cap. However, once again G-Dragon tries too hard to be different from the rest and ends up looking awkward. For some reason he decided to pull his patented “I’m going to try to eat my face” look, which he’s shown many times before. Oh well, four out of five isn’t bad.

The Wonder Girls have released their teaser through their official website, wondergirlsworld.com, and who is bringing you the news of this historical event first? None other than us, allkpop! Get ready to be blown away!

The teaser begins with the grand entrance of the Wonder Girls slowly walking down the stairs and also includes clips of the Wonder Girls rocking the stage at their concerts in asia. Only Yubin's rap and narration of "saranghae (I love you)" are featured in the teaser, however it is enough to stir the excitement and anticipation of their debut.

Big Bang moves up 1 position to #3 on Oricon chart

5-member group Big Bang has risen up 1 position up to the 3rd position on Japan Oricon chart.

The title song ‘My Heaven’ off their Japanese debut single ‘My Heaven’ has went up to #3 on Oricon chart on 25th June one day after its release. The song has also went straight up to #4 on 24th June.

This seems to be an indicator that Big Bang’s promotions in Japan will be a good one.

Big Bang will also be appearing on SMAP member Cho NanKang’s show on Fuji TV on 26th June as part of their promotions.

The boys will also move on to release their 2nd Japanese single ‘Gara Gara GO’ on 8th July.

Seotaiji’s 8th album postponed

…again, for the second time.

Seotaiji initially set the release date for June 13th before he started his world tour, and then later posted on his homepage that the date was changed to June 25th. Then this past June 23rd, he posted yet another message on his homepage stating that the release date has been postponed to July 1st. What’s the reason behind the postponement? A company representative stated,

Twelve tracks have been sent over to one of the top mastering studios in the U.S., ‘Sterling Studio‘, where the chief engineer, Ted Jensen will work on the tracks.

So basically, Seotaiji wanted to have his tracks tweaked a bit by one of the “best” before it hit the market. This, however, contradicted a statement he made in a previous interview where he stated,

I’ve taken the talent and skills I’ve learned up until this very day, from working with many different overseas staff and produced this eighth album solely using the technology available here in Korea.

Although his fans have been waiting patiently for the release of his album despite the delay, it seems as though they were a little disappointed by him not keeping his word. It also doesn’t really help much that he already disappointed them by continuously pushing back the release date. When his company was asked why the release date was postponed again they simply stated that there was nothing in particular that was going wrong but “we can’t explain anything”.

Why so secretive? Who knows but hopefully his new album, “Seotaiji 8th Atomos”, will actually be released on July 1st this time.

Shin Min Ah & Won Bin at The 8th Mise-en-scene's Short Film Festival

Won Bin (Mother, Taegukgi) and Shin Mi-na (A Bittersweet Life) were seen at the opening ceremony of The 8th Mise-en-scene's Short Film Festival which was held at Yongsan CGV in Seoul. This year, the film festival runs from 25 - 30 June, 2009.

The short film festival is more of an event for those in the film industry as it has helped launched the career of several new Korean film directors and actors. This time around, the festival will feature 57 films in the official selection and a total of 120 films in the non-competition selection.

Festival alumni include Na Hong-jin of "The Chaser," Yang Ik-june of "Breathless," and Lee Kyoung-mi of "Crush and Blush." Many film directors show affection to the festival, with director Bong Joon-ho acting as the committee chair, and director Kim Dae-seung as the head of jury.

Sounds like a festival for the directors and for those who are new to the industry who want to make their work known to the main stream.

News came recently that they have signed on to model for clothing brand TBJ, and it has been also known that they will also model for OnSae Telecom Collect call 1677.

The girls had brought the Kpop world by storm with their debut song ‘Hot Issue’.

OnSae Telecom said, “The girls are popular even though they just debuted, and their fresh image fits well with our advertisment.”

Meanwhile, the girls will be performing their debut song ‘Hot Issue’ on 25th June on Mnet M!Countdown.

SS501 Ate a Lot in Taiwan, Not Rejecting Food High in Calories

Korea’s top boy band SS501 is finally coming to meet with Taiwan fans! The 5 members, who’re currently growing, eat a lot, through their manager, they expressed their wishes that where ever they go for activities, there will be hamburgers, fried chicken, etc, high calorie food, so that they can replenish their energy anytime.

As it’s their first visit to Taiwan, everyone in SS501 is looking forward to tasting the bubble tea that Taiwan is famous for, and also hope their fans can suggest other special, “must-drink” drinks in Taiwan.

This time, SS501’s visit to Taiwan with an enormous group of personnel, the members, staff and dancers, a total of 22 people, is expected to arrive in Taiwan on the 27th, 11am. The first time coming to Taiwan and meeting fans as well as carrying out promotional activities, the 5 big boys are easygoing with regards to food, only hoping that their food does not contain seasonings such as aniseed, hot pepper, coriander ,etc.

Their management company said, as they’re still growing, in order to let them have enough energy to cope with their many activities, they hope that where ever they go for activities, there will be hamburgers, sandwiches, fried chickens, dumplings, pizza, Hong Kong Dim Sum etc, high calorie food, so that they can replenish their energy anytime, and they also look forward to tasting Taiwan’s famous bubble tea.

With regards to SS501’s fan meeting at Taipei International Convention Center on the 28th, they’re not treating it lightly, and have brought along 4 dancers, they’re expected to sing 6 songs, which includes the Korean dramas which is currently airing in Taiwan, “Deja Vu” and “Lalala…for you”. Also, they’ll be playing games with the fans, giving related products to lucky fans, and come in close contact with their fans.

SS501’s monopolize Taiwan limited edition CD “SUPERHITS!”, “1st SOLO ALBUM” will be released 1 day before they arrive, the album not only comes with Chinese lyrics but also Chinese worded “sing-along”, fans will be able to sing along even if they don’t know Korean. SS501 will leave Taiwan on the 29th, and go on to their next stop – Hong Kong.

Investigation of Actress Scandal to Resume

Police will resume an investigation into public figures who allegedly received "sexual services" from the late actress Jang Ja-yeon after her former agent, apprehended in Japan, will be extradited to Seoul soon.

The agent, Kim Sung-hoon, 42, was detained in Tokyo Wednesday afternoon and will be deported to Seoul as early as next week, police said.

Hiding out in Japan since last December, Kim had been placed on a wanted list for suspicions of forcing up-and-coming actresses, including Jang, to provide sexual services to showbiz and media VIPs.

"If necessary, we will re-investigate those cleared of suspicion in the first investigation that was inconclusively wrapped up in April," said Han Poong-hyun, head of the Bundang Police Station. "We have requested the Japanese authorities to send him back here as early as possible."

Once he arrives, police will restart the probe into 13 figures implicated in the scandal. The inquiry was put on hold for lack of evidence.

It has yet been confirmed whom Kim met and contacted over the last six months in Japan.

Jang hung herself in her house in Bundang, south of Seoul, on March 7, leaving a note indicating that she was forced to provide sexual services in return for media exposure.

A few days later, her manager, Yoo Jang-ho, disclosed the note she had supposedly written, which stated that Kim had forced Jang to provide sex and entertainment to several VIPs, including CEOs of two print and online media organizations, program directors and a bank CEO. Other bigwigs allegedly include owners and presidents of chaebol.

Following the disclosure, police questioned 40 people, but concluded the first investigation by booking only nine on April 24.
