There have been many opinons on the appearance of Super Junior and SNSD on MBC's 'Music Trip Lalala,' especially on their homepage bulletin board.

On the 25th, Super Junior and SNSD appeared on 'Lalala,' following the theme of 'Sounds Like Teen Spirit.' From Super Junior, Leeteuk, Kangin, Yesung, Sungmin, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun performed, and from SNSD, Taeyeon, Jessica, Tiffany, Sunny, and Seohyun. The two groups sang each other's hit songs such as 'Sorry Sorry' and 'Gee' in a different style.

The problem is that the fans of 'Lalala' are becoming disappointed in the program. So far, 'Lalala' had a concept of having the best quality music, with singers like Lee Seungyul, Lee Janghyuk, Black Skirt, and more skilled musicians who aren't widely known. As a program that is broadcasted at a late hour, it is true that it's free from the competition of viewers' rates.

However on the 25th, Super Junior and SNSD appeared together as idol groups from the same company. Technically, idol singers are put into the category of musicians, but compared to the quality of their music, their commerciality is more considered and emphasized. On the 18th, singer Son Dambi appeared, but Shin Munhee, Jiteun, and Ran appeared also, keeping a balance in the commerciality.

That is why on 'Lalala's internet bulliten board, there are many voices speaking up. Many opinions such as "Lalala has given up" and "Will Lalala break down like this" are on the bulliten board. However, there are other remarks opposing them, saying, "A skilled idol group's appearance" and "Let's break the stereotype of idol groups."

Seeing as SJ and SoShi brought along only their more solid singers, I don't know what people are complaining about. More proof idol groups aren't only looks.

But anyway, I was pretty impressed by Suju/SNSD's vocals on Lalala

But really, is it going to corrupt the whole show? Choosing to put idol groups on the program opened up the show to a whole new audience, therefore exposing the new viewers to the more skilled musicians who aren't widely known.

Not saying the viewers became fans of the new musicians overnight, but exposure is exposure I suppose.

The stereotypes thrown at idol groups is rather sad.

I thought both groups did extremely well. :3

Date: 2009-06-25 06:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jia-zhang.livejournal.com
It's not sad, it is true. It can take years for them to gain artistry, or even at all. Moreover, there is a difference from singing and artistry and musicality. Like, Donghae (♥), Taeyeon and etc. can all sing very well, but still lack the power and bravado of true musicians; moreover, they do not compose their own songs.

True musicians are about growth (and by growth I mean evolution and revolution), none of which such "idol" singers possess. (Yet. For we never know how the future will go and how people will change. Like Japan has made DBSK come along way as "artists", but they are still not there yet.)

KRY + Donghae and SNSD should just go ~indie~

Date: 2009-06-25 06:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] proleptical.livejournal.com
Kyuhyun, Yesung, and Ryeowook need to form their own indie band. I mean, yeah, SuJu KRY... but drop the SuJu and avoid showering for weeks, grow beards, and come back with a guitar only and some random spoons to create obscure sound effects and release an album. Donghae can be a guest on their album. I bet those music snob would not mind them if they listened to them sing without knowing they are from an idol group.

Same with SNSD but they are too easy recognizable so they should do a Gorillaz kinda thing so their identities won't be revealed.

Date: 2009-06-25 06:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] whatdesuyo.livejournal.com
Not surprised. Since it's supposedly a music program for indie music, bringing in commercial idols kind of wrecks the whole indie thing, imo.

Date: 2009-06-25 06:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jia-zhang.livejournal.com
I get their complaints. I mean, like if KAT-TUN ever went on a good music program like "Bokura no Ongaku", I'd flip out, too. There is a distinction between true musicality and commerciality, and no matter how much you try, certain groups/singers will never reach that level of musical and artistic excellence, and despite having capable singers, SJ and SNSD are both far, far, far from that level of artistry. It's like putting Miley Cyrus and Ani Difranco on the same stage.

Even though I personally thought SJ and SoShi were amazing, I can see where the disappointed Lalala fans are coming from. If the show is known to do a certain genre (indie, I'm presuming from some of the comments above) and 'idol groups' suddenly start appearing, I think it's reason for disappointment. I'm a classical music geek, and I watch the performances Channel 13 broadcasts; tbh I think I'd be pretty ticked off too if they suddenly started showing Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers.

As for the comments that sort of degrade the idols' musicality, I think it's really just a matter of taste. There might be people out there who think Miley Cyrus is the best singer ever, and I would digress. You can't really control what voices or type of music people prefer, so. /shrug

& several of those bad comments are from SM-antis or what they call themselves "SMdisappear" lol how cute.
