'Suicide' to Be Banned From Input on Internet (in Korea)

Keywords "suicide methods" and other words related to suicide will be, in principle, banned from input for online communities, blogs and other communal cyber spaces, the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs said Monday.

To counter growing group suicides in the nation, the ministry will join hands with police, telecommunication authorities, civic groups and portals to ban keywords related to suicide and block access to Web sites.

Among the banned words are "suicide", "suicide methods", "group suicide", and other terms pertaining to suicide.

Postings containing information about suicide will be deleted and the operators of online cafes on the subject could be prosecuted. The prosecution recently arrested a Web site operator of an online suicide information cafe.

Rental car dealers, charcoal brisket sellers as well as hotel and inn managers are encouraged to report any "suspicious groups of people" they notice to local police.

Those who report such activities will be rewarded. Newspapers and other media outlets are also requested to "refrain from describing the methods and locations of sites" to prevent further copycat suicides.

The move comes as the number of such crimes has increased dramatically since actor Ahn Jae-hwan reportedly killed himself using charcoal briquettes last September. More than 11 cases of "joint suicide" have been reported since then, killing 11 and leaving six in critical care.

South Korean heartthrob Won Bin, who made a comeback through Bong Joon-ho's 'Mother', now showing at the Cannes festival, said the thriller marks a "new start" in his acting career.

"If it was round one until now, then 'Mother' signals the start of round two in my life as an actor", the 31-year-old was quoted as telling Yonhap News, Sunday, in Cannes, France.

Won had been absent for four years due to mandatory military service and an injury. 'Mother' is his first movie after five years since 'My Brother'. "I am very greedy about acting, and the beauty of acting is that it is a never-ending process", he said, adding, "That is why I can put all my eggs into one basket."

Korean Scientists Saving the World?

Human Vaccine for Influenza A Developed
A group of South Korean scientists said Monday they have succeeded in developing a human vaccine against H1N1 Influenza A.

The scientists at Chungnam National University said they cultivated the "standard virus" supplied by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and created a non-toxic material that can be mass-produced cheaply.

The team, led by Prof. Seo Sang-heui of the college of veterinary medicine of the university based in Daejeon, said the vaccine was developed on Friday, 11 days after the CDC provided the virus sample.

The vaccine strain has been named CNUK-RG A/CA/4xPR/8 (H1N1), with the scientists at the school "confirming" its effectiveness through tests conducted on human and monkey cell samples. They said they expect to produce a fully developed and marketable vaccine in September, after basic clinical experiments are completed.

It has been revealed that the 9-member girl group SNSD have been a huge hit on online music stores this first few months of the year.

According to documents that the music portal site KTF Doshirak revealed to MoneyToday StarNews on the 19th, SNSD's Gee has placed first in the total number of overall pop song downloads between January and April.

Stars like Park Hae Il, Park Bo Young, Bae Seul Ki, and Taegoon will participate in the "Entertainer's Fashion Market" to open the 2009 Kangnam Fashion Festival. During the event they will show off and sell their clothes with all of the proceeds going to people in need.
Not only will they sell the clothes they wore in dramas, music videos, movies, and CFs, but they will also sell clothes from their own personal belongings.
During the festival there will be events for designers to sell their clothing, a magic show, a jazz concert, fashion tattoo and other colorful cultural events.

Free Hug with 2PM + 2PM mentions Thai fans

This Wednesday, 20th May at 2:00 pm, Jaebeom, Wooyoung and Chansung will give out "Free Hug" for charity in Hongdae. Participants will get to hug with 2PM boys and buy some cake. The donation will go to charity for children.

In other news, 2PM has mentioned Thai fans in their latest interviews of Yahoo news. They said they sensed their popularity for the first time when they went to Thailand in March.

"At an autograph event in a shopping mall, a large number of people came to support us. They crowded on the first, second and third floors. Around 50 fans also waited for us at the hotel's lobby. Some of the fans chased us like paparazzi."

"When we went to a restaurant, plenty of fans also came to that restaurant in a flash. All I can say is to thank you for their supports." Junsu said.

About the recently released pictures of Se7en and Park Han Byul, she confessed what on her mind through her personal website.

On May 18, at 2:23pm, Park Han Byul wrote, “It’s hard to live as a celebrity”, as she described calmly about her current event and as a celebrity.

Park Han Byul said, “No one can interupt with my own free will, and I do not intend to get a misunderstanding from people, as my feelings and values are not respected in most cases,” “and because of so many reasons, I live as a woman in this dangerous world, I feel scared and lonely,” she continued.

She also wrote, “Because I’m an actress, I have those surround me who can get involved with me. I feel thankful for their support, but I’m also sorry that I can’t be what people expect me to be. So I can’t just concentrate on my own problems.”

But then she spoke of hope.

“Hopefully one day I can live my days as a person and we can be free. It’s hard to live as a nice woman and it’s hard to live as a celebrity.”

Lee Seon Gyun (34) and his bride-to-be, Jeon Hye Jin published their pre-wed pictures for the public earlier today. Their wedding will be held this coming Saturday, May 23 at 6pm in the Grand Ballroom, Seoul Convention Center.

Lee Seon Gyun said, “During the shooting, I always think that my girlfriend is so beautiful. Within these days, whenever I think about marriage, I get so nervous, but I love Hye Jin for who she is. And when I think that I’ll be loving her for the rest of our lives, I feel so lucky and excited.”

Actor Oh Man Seok, one of Lee Seon Gyun’s close friends will be presenting as MC together with another close friend, Hong Sung Bo. (Sorry, correction. I just checked with two other news, it seems like Oh Man Seok won’t be singing at the wedding. Boo~)

A song called, 바다여행 (Sea Vacation) which originally sung by Tearliner (remember that song Lee Seon Gyun sang in “Coffee Prince”? That’s the song), singer/actor 김창완 (Kim Chang Wan) will be singing this song at the wedding.

beef with super junior.

Well it’s not actually beef, more like my grievances with Super Junior as a music act.

They don’t really need an introduction, but Super Junior is a Kpop group under SM Entertainment and that’s really not the most important thing about them — them being a group with 13 members in it is definitely a highlight. Kind of. (Nia told me the other day that apparently, Super Junior is the biggest boy band in the world known to mothereffin’ mankind. Screw DBSK and their “highest number of fan club members” shizz, Super Junior will never leave Guinness until a 14 member group trumps them.)

And this post was brought on by their latest single/release, “너라고 (It’s You).” I freaking love this song, and this may be the first song I’ve liked this much since SHINee’s “누난 너무 예뻐 (Replay).” I like Kpop for its ridiculousness and oftentimes bland music, but I don’t ask it to be more than what it is. This song is no brilliant work of magic brought to us by the music gods, but it’s got what I want in a good Kpop song — fast beat, maintains an interesting/suspenseful melody, has good singing and some aesthetically pleasing choreography.

The music video is easily my favorite Super Junior video, but honestly, that wasn’t hard to manage. The guys are superbly styled, there’s a semi-semi-semi-decent storyline going on, the monotone of the visuals actually works to the video’s advantage, and my favorite thing: Kyuhyun attempts to act badass. Hey at least I’ll give him an “A” for effort.

But, it’s also this music video where I realized my biggest qualm with Super Junior — the size of the group — and it how it really ruins the appeal of such a nice song.

When I first got into Super Junior, my initial phase was one that went something like this: “They won’t WORK any other way but with 13 people! I love all of them! Each and every one! All of them are talented in their own way!” And I would work out in my head what would happen if you took out one member but then my brain would fry because OMG what an impossibility.

Joo Ji-hoon indicted on drug charges

Actor Joo Ji-hoon, who was busted last month for using ecstasy and ketamine, then dropped from a drama (Tokyo Tower), and subsequently banned from KBS for an indefinite period of time, was indicted by the Seoul Central District Court on May 19. The charge is for use of an illegal drug on two occasions. He was not jailed.

Actress Yoon Seol-hee, model Yeh Hak-young (both currently jailed), and another unnamed Ms. Jeon were also indicted on the same day.

Han Ji Hye for W

Han Ji Hye posed for the June issue of the fashion magazine 'W Korea' to promote social awareness for environmental protection. Han Ji Hye is the ambassador for the fashion eco-campaign 'WEAR GREEN' project.

The concept of the photoshoot was the four elements water, wind, fire and earth. Han Ji Hye conveyed these elements through dramatic expression and various poses. She said that it seems people "have forgotten the importance of the environment" and that the pictorial "made her think about the importance [of the environment] once again and it was a meaningful time."

Meanwhile, 15 fashion brands are participating in the eco-campaign by making t-shirts with the catchphrase 'WEAR GREEN,' and the full amount of proceeds raised will be donated to various environmental groups.

Lee Min Ho’s birthday party registration closed down after 2 minutes

As most of you probably already know, Lee Min Ho will have his birthday party and fanmeeting with his official fanclub, Minoz LOL QUE next month. But news said that it only took them 2 minutes (after the registration is officially open), to crash the server. The website had to be closed down because of the tremendous response from his fans to join Minoz (to be able to participate/come to his party).

According to Lee Min Ho’s agency, because of the huge amount of response from the online users, the server became unstable and crashed after only 2 minutes. And because of this, they’re thinking of having two sessions for the party to accomodate more fans from all over Asia.

Lee Min Ho’s birthday party will be held in Children’s Grand Park, Seoul, June 21. Everyone who belongs in his fanclub may come and join. This even will also be his first international fanmeeting/birthday party after “Boys Over Flowers” ended.

More information about joining his fanclub will be available through his official site www.leeminho.kr and the open registration will start from May 18 through June 10.
