the sound system was honestly so terrible for this like sbs usually has a shitty sound system but they topped themselves this year. here's to hoping that kbs / mbc's are better. (but, honestly, i'm sure they'll be trying their hardest to top this one anyway because netizens are already tearing into sbs, lmao.) the only other big "????" is about psy's special "appearance" considering it was legitimately a prerecorded pull from one of his concerts. i love him as a performer but it could've been done better.

anyway, imo / personally:

highlights for me
☆ the opening with twice. it was super cute.
☆ onew getting voted best leader by all the other idols. he deserves the recognition / rarely gets it considering how great of a leader her actually is.

favorite performances
☆ jonghyun / yubin. i'm biased ..., but i also thought that it was one of the cleanest performances all around. the sound at the beginning was messy but i'm guessing jjong caught on (?) because he tore out his in ear mic pretty early into it. yubin was a fun and unexpected addition and they were cute together. (plus, i think jjong's a great performer all around.)
☆ luna / ailee / eunji / solar. even though i wish they'd given solar a little more screentime.
☆ actually, i enjoyed all of the special stages. chen sounded really good, and i always love taemin playing the piano during perfs. exo / shinee were good individually but what was the point in even calling it a special stage when they were with each other for a total of maybe... twenty seconds? if even that. (it just seemed rushed in that respect because they have good chemistry and they could've planned something else out but maybe time constraints stopped that from happening.)

☆ mamamoo!!!!
☆ seventeen were really cute / did well and deserved more screentime.

so, so pissed off at how BAP was treated for this show. I was looking forward to their stage and the dance battle but was so disappointed and underwhelmed by it. They got so little stage time for a group that is coming up on their 4 year anniversary. During their part for the dance battle, the camera just pans out?? We can't even see anything and the stage lights are practically off! the other groups were on camera the whole time and seemed to have much more stage time than BAP. Yongguk is just hanging up there while the others...dance? I had to rely on fancams because SBS cameramen cba to do their jobs properly. Then during their stage their song is cut short and their mics didn't work properly.

I honestly thought that even though they were gone for a long time and the fact that they're seniors to quite a lot of the groups there, they'd be treated a lot better. But I guess if you're not a trendy group or from the big 3 then it won't happen.

I loved Mamamoo's performance (ahem biased)

I was honestly pretty hyped about that "Diva" collab because of Solar and Luna but I wasn't really feeling the song selection and it felt like Ailee was practically outsinging all of them.

I'm not sure what happened to Hani but it was hilarious. Anyway she looked really good during the rest of the performance.

Like I love the Glee version of it (one of the few things Glee done right lol) when they remixed it with "Survivor" by Destiny's Child so I was kinda dissapointed by the lack of energy;(

BTOB's stage was great (maybe I'm a little biased on this but I just think they're awesome) that I hardly noticed the issue with the in-ears/mic. It was only after I watched other performances that it became obvious. They were trending in Twitter for hours after their performance.

I really loved that intro by twice - it was really cool how they seamlessly went into each era like that.

I'm still kinda ??? At got7 dancing to hotline bling? I mean granted it was the first thing I saw when I logged onto tumblr so that probably shocked me a bit lol.

Agree with the majority not enough screen time for girl groups. They could have really don't better with distribution.

Also - where is the super rookie stage???? Like omg 2015 was the best in terms of rookies for both girls AND guys!!!

i loved mamamoo's stage!! i'm so pressed solar didn't get a solo part in the diva stage tho. some ppl have been saying it's because she was performing with sunbaes but idc, there were four of them singing an almost four-minute long track, they could've given her something to work with. smh

i wish gayo daejuns would stop with the needless remixes. sometimes they can be cool but i feel like more often than not the remix is super lame and brings nothing new to the table

Overall the show was similarly messy - it was fun being able to watch so many groups perform, but holy shit @ how quickly they were on and off the stage? And that EXO x SHINee 'collaboration' which just turned out to be two separate stages.....

Some of y'all need to get over this "how did the rookie get so much time" BECAUSE THEIR COMPANY IS DOING WHAT THEY SHOULD, PROMOTING THEM....YG would have never sent iKON to perform if they were gonna get 2 minutes...They're still promoting, they're rookies, their company is big enough to ask for them to perform more than 1 song.....

SM acts got what close to 10 stages????

JYP acts got 6 stages and yet people here are up in arms about iKON and YG....goes to show how anti-anything YG omona and generally kpop fans are....
