nominations for the 30th golden disk awards are out!

award show season is still creeping up on us!! this time, nominations for the 30th golden disk awards (aka korea's "version" of the grammy awards) have been announced. (voting also started but you apparently have to pay $1 daily???? to vote so i won't even get into that. regardless: voting ends on january 10th.) the ceremony will take place on january 20th - 21st in shenzhen, china, with one day being dedicated to the digital sector and the other to the disk. noms are behind the cuts!

apparently, even if you're nominated in both categories, you can only win once between either disk or digital which makes it more "fair" and gives more artists chances to win. i also read that it's rare that rookies win bonsangs? but idk. you're also only eligible for the daesang / grand prize award if you win a bonsang prior to it during the ceremony.

also known as: the newcomer award, rookie award, ect. basically to celebrate the achivements of newly debuted artists throughout the year. the number of winners has kind of varied over the years: five won in 2012 / 2013, four won in 2014 and three won last year though there's been years that only two winners have been chosen. there's something on the criteria page that says: "two (teams) global and domestic" so i'm not sure if that means there'll be four winners, or ...? who knows. they don't split the wins between male and female artists though.

the information here is kinda blurry / i haven't seen much on it but, if going by last year's awards, the popularity award is usually given to one to four winners. (it was four last year.) it could be totally wrong, but i'm getting the impression that they may split between whoever wins in the final vote for the global and domestic polls? (the winners last year were beast, snsd, taemin and toheart.) but who knows, we'll find out when the actual show happens, lmao.

The nominations are good, SHINee really, really killed it musically, f(x) are pretty good but idk, I think SHINee were stronger. View is one of the top 5 best songs I've heard all year. GOT7's mini is far better than it needs to, BTOB's vocal slayage needs to be awarded with something and Reboot deserves A LOT of love. More than it's been getting

Lol look I actually like iKON but of them and BigBang they did not make better music than BB. That's odd. I guess it's because SOMEBODY dropped the ball on the full album release for BB smh.

i think i saw someone say they're making people ~pay to vote to keep people from cheating? because most fandoms use bots and other forms of mass voting to raise votes, which is commonplace anywhere, but. either way i'm not shelling out any cash, lmao. apparently the gdas are the korean ~version of the grammys, or they call themselves that. this, the smas and the korean music awards are the most "legit" ones but the kmas are more from non-idols.

some of the winners are gonna be obvious, based on sales alone. a pink, beast, bts, cnblue, exo, f(x), snsd, got7, ikon, infinite, red velvet, shinee, sistar, taeyeon, vixx, mamamoo, taeyeon, ect. are all probably getting something. i want jonghyun to win something because he's been working non-stop this year but it might be hard and i could see yonghwa winning over him. (even tho his album legit put me to sleep.)

if jyp's vain enough (which he is!!!) i wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't send miss a or wonder girls because they both did better than him digitally, and he hasn't really been sending them to any award shows so far this year which is "????" to me.

just curious, how much does sale factor in grammy? bc it seems like korean awards always emphasize on that and that doesn't always equal good music, but more of a popularity award. but if that's the universal standard for music awards then i guess /shrug/

So I listened to Exodus b/c based on sales it'll win AOTY. i know there aren't a lot of Shinhwa fans here but a lot of this album sounds like it was made for Shinhwa 10 years ago. With Hurt I could actually pick out in my head "that would be Hyesung's line and that would be Dongwan's". I guess the album's not bad, just dated even by kpop standards and makes me think SM hasn't changed its general boy group sound in years.
