World star Psy has stepped down from being a judge on “Super Star K 4” due to his overseas activities.

Psy had planned on being a judge throughout the season but because of his second round of overseas promotions for “Gangnam Style,” and his new, upcoming US single, Psy had to leave his position. It is reported that Mnet was supportive of Psy’s decision.

One source stated, “This kind of chance doesn’t come often for Psy, who is receiving attention from all parts of the world. Mnet also understood this so they were very supportive of Psy’s decision to step down from ‘Super Star K 4.’”

This source continued, “Not only was Mnet understanding but all the staff members and representatives of ‘Super Star K 4′ were supportive so Psy was able to leave with a good heart. Psy is very grateful for all the Mnet and ‘Super Star K 4′ staff members and is determined to work harder.”

Psy will not be returning to Korea for a while and will be carrying out his activities in the US and Europe. However, Psy will be attending the 2012 MAMAs in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Psy will be giving a lecture in England’s Oxford University in November.

Psy was invited by Oxford’s debate club, the Oxford Union. He will be giving a lecture on the secrets behind his musical success, especially with “Gangnam Style.” This lecture will be given in English.

Over 12,000 students are in the Oxford Union and this year, the president of this club is a Korean student. Public lectures for the Oxford Union are held every week and other notable figures such as Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Mother Theresa, Dalai Lama, Michael Jackson, and Billy Joel have spoken.

It will be a busy end of the year for Psy as he is planning on making various TV appearances and attending several award shows as well.

The video might be crazy but is not random. And the song while catchy has important and somewhat deep cultural connotations for south korea's modern society, which are worthy of a lecture imo, because the language and cultural barrier doesn't really let us foreigners grasp the song as a whole. Your comment is a pretty good example of what I'm saying so I think it's worth it trying to give a lecture about it and his music career, why not?

Talking about his success internationally tbqh.

The reason he broke internationally out is coz he had a catchy and addictive video. Period.

I did. I doubt people internationally are really looking at the "deeper meaning" of Gangnam Style and because of it its becoming popular.

It's a catchy song with a weird video lol.

Maybe in Korea people understand the lyrics and stuff but not abroad so I disagree with you in saying that the meaning and content of the lyrics made GS successful.

IA internationally his success has nothing to do with the meaning behind the song, but I guess I see it from a completely different point of view because to me his musical success didn't start with Gangnam style and he is giving a lecture about his career. PSY's musical success was because of his lyrics, the messages involved in them.

So you are saying all these now, but you first said you could give a lecture In Harvard about it, because you seem to think it's quite simple, to which I respectfully disagree.

Oh come on, it's obvious I was joking about me giving it.

The article said that he is going to talk about his successes particularly with Gangnam Style, to which I think its quite easy lol.

I'm saying it's a chance for him to talk about it because lbr most people who listen to gangnam style out of Korea don't understand korean tbqh and even those of us who have a grasp of the language easily miss out the actual meaning of the song, because like the comment I originally replied to and what most people think is actually that, catchy song, catchy mv and dance (not particulary fond of either tbqh), and that's all people see.

I think regardless of the background or profession, it's always interesting and worth it when outstanding and successful people share their stories with students, imo.

Probably because the debate club president is Korean (or of Korean descent at least). I doubt he would have been thought of if it weren't for that.

But my mind was blown at first too. I thought they'd made a mistake at first and were talking about Oxford Brookes, but I doubt Brookes has 12,000 student its debate club. And I suppose some socities are about introducing people to different views or different mindsets. Psy probably has some really interesting stories to tell.

I don't see what's so wrong with him giving a lecture at Oxford Uni tbh.

Gangnam style, along with many other songs from PSY hold a deeper meaning, it's interesting from a foreign point of view.

exactly, this is a chance for him to open up more dialogue about the song's message and deeper implications of its international success. People in here like to pretend they are somehow on the inside of Psy's success bc they are fans of kpop, but they cant even think critically about what Psy's international success, short lived or shallow, can mean.

I don't think anyone has a problem with it; just a bit surprised. Especially when you look at the people listed up there. Though after looking at the Oxford Union website, they've had people like Incubus, Tinie Tempah and Kate Nash speak. Kate Nash wasn't successful beyond her first two songs and Incubus are popular with fans of rock and metal, but definitely don't get to the top of the charts. Psy's had one song and become incredibly popular internationally, and topped the UK charts. It makes more sense when you look at the actual list because they try to encourage a variety of speakers to visit, but not when you just look at the list of people on the article. But the Korean media are all over this right now and it's any excuse to make Psy's success sound much more amazing.

is there a reason Korean media cannot write factual articles?

he was invited to speak to the debate club, the other lecturers like Mother Theresa spoke to the entire school.
