The MTV Music Meter is a music discovery experience. Our front door is a daily list of the top 100 artists trending right now.

How is the ranking determined?

The ranking is determined by the real time buzz across the Internet. We look at tweets and other social mentions, blog posts, news articles, streams, and purchases for over one million artists. Then every day we show you the top 100 artists that are trending upwards in these categories.

What can I do on the MTV Music Meter?

We provide access to over one million artists. The Top 100 is a great starting point – click on any “artist card” to get a quick snapshot of a particular artist. If you like the artist, share them, favorite them for quick access later on the same browser, or hit the “similar” button to get the same discovery experience for more artists you’ll like.

You can also search for any of over one million artists. This is great for getting a snapshot of a band you just heard of but want to know more about, or for finding similar artists to bands you already know you love.

YG Entertainment's stock shares surge because of Big Bang's comeback?

Big Bang's comeback continues to prove its strength after YG Entertainment's stock shares increased. On February 17th, YG Entertainment's shares on the KOSDAQ market closed at 60,700 won, a 5.02% increase from its closing value the previous day. 

It was also reported that the company's stock rose for five consecutive days, having a 22.63% increase in the past three days. Just two weeks ago, YG Entertainment's stock shares closed at 49,500 won and critics have viewed the increasing trend due to Big Bang's comeback announcement. With their comeback just weeks away, the surge in these share prices were credited to Big Bang's comeback, whose album is set to hit the Korean music market on February 29th. 

For the past few days, YG Entertainment has been releasing Big Bang's concept photos as well as announcing that group will promote six title tracks from the album.

SXSW 2012 to take place in March and feature many Korean events

South by Southwest (SXSW) is a company that hosts an annual event covering films, music, and technology. This year, the event will take place from March 9th to 18th in Austin, Texas. It hosts one of the largest music festivals in the United States, with over 2,000 artists performing in over 90 venues. Its film festival focuses on new, upcoming directing talents from all over the world.

This year, SXSW will host many Korea related events. This year's events will feature performances from Aziatix, Crying Nut, Galaxy Express, and more. Additionally, films about Korea and Korean Americans will also be shown this year. There will also be a panel discussing the secrets to the K-Pop market becoming an international market.

A huge K-wave fan, Dwi Hapsari is very familiar with the total impact of Korean culture in Indonesia. She has witnessed the swell of the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, since it landed here in 2007, interviewing several stars for Indonesian publications, fostering trade on entertainment products and now serving as marketing manager for the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) in Jakarta.

Put together the world's most wired country, a fascination with the lives of the young, rich and famous and a penchant for plastic surgery, and what do you have? A problem, some South Koreans say.

This affluent Asian country of 50 million people has the second largest number of plastic surgery operations in the world relative to the size of its population after Hungary, according to industry data, and the Internet is fanning the flame.

With Korean pop sensations such as Goo Hara from hit girl group KARA admitting they have gone under the knife, there's no shame in ordinary mortals following suit, despite old Confucian teachings that altering the body disrespects one's parents.

Big Bang Tightens Their Security in New York Due to Paparazzi

The five members of Big Bang are currently in New York to start shooting their music video and therefore, there is a huge increase of paparazzi following them around.

Big Bang is in New York to film the music video for their two title tracks, "Blue" and "Bad Boy." Although the level of security was high, the increase of paparazzi caused each member of Big Bang to have a personal bodyguard with them at all times. News of Big Bang's music video shooting was leaked by the paparazzi on an international site, which proved that the hype and anticipation for Big Bang's comeback is quite big even overseas. 

Meanwhile, Big Bang has chosen all tracks from their upcoming album to be title tracks. The album will be released on February 29 and the track, "Blue" will be released on February 22. A 30 second teaser of "Blue" was released on February 17 through Naver Music and on the same day, television ad campaigns that showed each of the members' thoughts and feelings about their comeback were aired on national television. Big Bang will start a world tour called "Big Bang Alive Tour 2012" starting from March 2 to April.

Junho Visits Ethiopia

2PM‘s Junho recently traveled to Ethiopia to do some charity work.

On February 15th, Humanitarian Organization World Vision reported that they have launched ‘Global Share Project‘ in collaboration with EBS.

2PM’s Junho was selected as the first person to volunteer with ‘Global Share Project’ and sacrificed his first vacation in four years since his debut. He opted to travel to Ethiopia last month to spend some meaningful time with the locals.

Junho met with patients suffering from ‘elephantitis’, a rare from of skin disease and delightfully sang and danced with them. Junho has also been secretly supporting a child in Ethiopia who he got to meet in person, even presenting his adopted child a special gift.

Other than Junho, there were also a number of Indie bands from the Hongdae area who visited Zambia, Africa. Harim, Attic Moonlight, and more sang songs for children suffering from polio and malnutrition, planting some hope into their hearts. They also sang a song which they personally wrote and composed for the children, touching the hearts of the local people.

The first episode of Junho’s Ethiopia visit will air via EBS on February 27th at 10:40PM KST.

Ahead of the group′s comeback, the Big Bang members shot an editorial for Vogue Korea - going all out for the Rocky-themed shoot.

The pictorial was inspired by not only Rocky, but rookie boxing matches, and had the Big Bang members battle it out to become the king of fashion.

Each of the members were given different roles. Daesung was the laidback fashion champion, while Seungri was a bold challenger trying to take over the name of fashion king. T.O.P. became a dandy round boy who was a former fashion king, and G-Dragon and Taeyang were set as stylish trainees, showing off the styles they are famous for.

Daesung and Seungri especially worked out in advance to showcase their abs in the shoot, and even brought in trainers to the set in order to emerge with the most perfect visuals as possible.

Seungri also had to stay shirtless for three long hours in a cold, unheated underground set to draw in tattoos. Big Bang’s 16 page fashion king pictorial will appear in the March issue of Vogue Korea.

Block B criticized for rude behavior, official apologies

Block B is in the center of attention after a certain interview from Thailand went online and harbored criticisms from the netizens. On the 19th of February, a video interview of Block B's visit to Thailand last January 27th started circulating online and has been getting negative responses for the behavior displayed.

During the interview, Block B was seen showing a rowdy image, as they yelled and sat vigorously clapping. It was also discussed online as to how they were casually distracting the entire interview and were said to have made a comment about Thailand's recent flooding. The said behavior while in an interview roused the netizens to ask if the group wasn't taking things too far. Further expressing if hip hop idol groups or artists are used to a free spirited image.

Block B's management also sent out a statement in response to the speculations stating that the group was merely trying to have some fun but promised that they will soon release a statement about the situation. They later revealed personal messages by all of the group's members (added at the bottom of this article).
