KBS delivers ‘Best Idol Star’ award to JYJ

We reported earlier that JYJ had been chosen as the ‘Best Idol Star’ on KBS’s ’2011 Best Star Icon Award’ poll.

It seems the boys have just received their award from KBS.

A staff member from KBS uploaded a picture and tweeted, “Due to schedule ~ We went to find JYJ who was filming in Kangnam, and delivered the Best Icon Award. The three young men who are still spirited, lively, and cheerful as before. We even brought restorative herbal medicine so that they’ll eat and hang in there..”

In the picture uploaded, the JYJ members are seen holding their award and herbal medicine with pleased expressions on their faces.

KBS you confuse me utterly. But I suppose this would only be meaningful if KBS actually allowed JYJ on a music show.

Girl rock band Story Seller and Choi Soomin to tour Europe in February

Korean rock band Story Seller is set to tour Europe next month and will be taking pop pianist Choi Soomin with them. This will be the first time a Korean rock band will set foot in the continent and will be having a nine day tour through various countries.

Torpedo Productions, an event organizer with a history of various Japanese rock gigs such as the upcoming ones with Satsuki & Kaya, will be bringing both artists to Austria, Germany, Italy, France and more. They will be touring Europe starting February 10th till 22nd.

Story Seller just recently released a new album "XX", consisting of 10 tracks. Two of its songs were given a music video, one of which, "Absolute Optical Illusion", is included at the bottom of this article.

Choi Soomin, a pop pianist who will join Story Seller on their trip, also revealed a short video in which he addresses the European Korean rock fans, and asks for them to anticipate their tour.

AA planning to crush your favs this Feb

AA will be wrapping up their debut promotions this week and will go into a brief hiatus before they gear up for their next round!

The boys plan on making their comeback in February with an upgraded image. It’s been a long promotional cycle for AA, who   debuted in October with “Because I’m Crazy” and went on to perform remix versions for year-end shows. The boys received much attention for their professional stage manners and activism with charities.

Until their next comeback, they plan on focusing on individual activities, as they have been receiving offers from variety shows and dramas.

A representative stated on January 3rd, “They’ll be doing individual activities after concluding promotions for their ‘Because I’m Crazy’ debut. They’ll also be preparing for their mini-album comeback in February.”

SNSD’s Maxi Single “The Boys” Introduced on Major U.S. Radio Station

SNSD’s maxi single, “The Boys,” was introduced as the first pick of the year on U.S.-based radio station, KIIS-FM. Featured in the weekly “JJ Music Monday” segment, KIIS-FM described the single as, “The new maxi single has 8 tracks and features remixes and features from big time artists including Snoop and Clinton Sparks.”

It went on to talk about K-Pop as a whole, quoting its Assistant Program Director and Music Director, Julie Pilat. She said, “The K-pop movement…has been spreading like wildfire worldwide thanks to Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube; Girls Generation is definitely a group to keep an eye on for 2012.”

“K-pop is an interesting phenomenon. In South Korea talent agencies go into the schools, find talent, and make them part of an apprenticeship program. Over several years the talent agencies nurture girl groups, boy bands, and solo artists in the K-pop industry overseeing the lives and careers of trainees through choreography, vocal lessons, and studying multiple languages while attending school,” she added.

SNSD is scheduled to release their special album on January 17 in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and France, which includes the Korean and English remix versions of “The Boys.” You can read the full post here.

SM Entertainment’s handsome boys recently took a picture together.

On January 4, Super Junior’s Siwon uploaded a picture of himself and SHINee’s Minho in a friendly pose on his Twitter account with the comment, “Kyuhyun and Changmin at the next table! Are you guys looking at us now?”

As a response to this, Kyuhyun uploaded a picture with the comment, “New year, new feeling. Enjoy your day! Cheers! Are you looking at me, Choi S. W (Siwon)?”

Siwon replied, “Yes. Right in front of you,” and Kyuhyun uploaded another picture with the comment, “Oh, I see. You’re talking about this one.”

In the picture, Kyuhyun is in a friendly pose with Minho, Siwon, and TVXQ’s Changmin.

People responded: “SM Entertainment’s handsome guys are all here!” “They’re so cute!” “Siwon, are you now a part of the Kyu family?” “I can have fun with them, too!”

Super Junior’s Heechul joins Siwon, BoA, Lee Soo Man, Brian Joo and Jungmo for dinner

On January 4, Siwon uploaded a photo with Heechul, Jungmo, SM Entertainment’s chairman Lee Soo Man (The devil himself, apparently), and BoA sharing a glass of wine. He wrote, “Finally we stole the master. SM’s flash meeting!” (“Flash meeting” is the term used to mean an unscheduled, surprise get-together).

Netizens welcomed the photo as Heechul wasn’t seen much in public since his military enlistment last September. They were particularly surprised by the length of Heechul’s long hair since regular army soldiers usually sport much shorter hair (Heechul’s serving as public service personnel because of his car accident in 2006 that required seven metal implants in his ankle).

Big Bang Listed 3rd in CNN's "Top Reasons to Visit Korea in 2012"

On December 30th, CNN GO, a website dedicated to Asian tourism, published an article on the top reasons to visit Korea this year. On that list, Big Bang’s upcoming comeback and the “Hallyu Madness” were listed as the 3rd top reason. The article discusses how 2012 is “a good year for K-Pop” and how the upcoming 21st Seoul Music Awards on January 19th is set to be the event of the year.

Other reasons listed in the article included: “Visit Korea Year”, Korea Grand Sale, the opening of the International Finance Center (IFC) in Yeouido, healthy Korean food, and the Yeosu Expo.

Seoul seeks high-level communications channel with NK

The Ministry of Unification said Thursday that it will seek to restore a high-level communications channel with North Korea this year as part of efforts to put moribund inter-Korean relations onto a normal track. The ministry also said in a policy report for the New Year to President Lee Myung-bak that it plans to discuss with the North ways to resume exchange programs in the fields of arts and sports, and humanitarian aid.

Girl group Six Bomb to debut later this month

Another new girl group will be following the lead of many others and is set for a debut later this month. Six Bomb, consisting of members Hyejin, Nabi, Subin, Euihyun and Jiwoo.

Member Hyejin, who is also the leader of the group, is said to be an exceptional rapper. Nabi, the eldest member holds the position of main vocalist while Subin has been a hot topic because of her close friendship with Girls' Generation's Yoona. Musical family girl Euihyun, and maknae Jiwoo are known to be skilled musicians.

Rapper Dok2's older brother Mr. Gordo was in charge of creating the girls' debut track. "Chiki Chiki Bomb" will be released later this month.

JYJ's company, C-Jes Entertainment, has confirmed the dates for their South American Tour that will visit both Peru and Chile. Previously, it was announced that C-Jes Entertainment was in the final stages of scheduling concerts in South America, and on January 4th they released the finalized dates and cities that have been added to the end of their World Tour that started last April in Bangkok, Thailand.

Due to the immense popularity of JYJ across South America, with fans ranging from teenagers to those in their 20's, it was C-Jes Entertainment's decision to add additional stops onto the end of JYJ's World Tour to satisfy the demands of the fans.

When JYJ was in America in 2010 for their "The Beginning World Tour Showcase," it was clear the popularity of the group had spread beyond the borders, with fans from South America traveling up to the concerts in California just to see their idols perform on stage.

C-Jes commented on the matter saying, "The concert is not being held to gain new fans, but to thank the current fans for their love and support for JYJ. For the fans in South America who have waited so long to see their idols, we will produce a well-made concert with the fantastic vocals and harmonies of JYJ as well as other various performances."

JYJ will make their first stop in South America on the 9th of March in Santiago, Chile, and their 2nd stop on the 11th of March in Lima, Peru.

The New Teaser Video of SM’s New Groups, EXO-K and EXO-M, will be Released on the 6th!

The teaser video will be released through the official website (http://exo-k.smtown.com, http://exo-m.smtown.com), YouTube channels (www.youtube.com/exok, www.youtube.com/exom), facebook pages (www.facebook.com/exok, www.facebook.com/exom), NAVER and China’s WEIBO, SINA, SOHU and YOUKU on the 6th (today) and it will show KAI’s new performance with light painting effect.

KARA‘s Seungyeon, After School’s Lizzy, SISTAR‘s Hyorin, and SECRET‘s Sunhwa have been confirmed for MBC‘s new ‘We Got Married‘ spin-off, ‘Pit-a-pat Shake‘.

On January 6th, PD Jun Sung Ho revealed, “We recently completed the first shoot with Seungyeon, Lizzy, Hyorin, Sunhwa, and their male partners. The atmosphere was great, and I think it will be fun for the audience to watch the stories these couples create.”

When asked about the male partners, they revealed, “We cannot reveal that yet. There’s a mix of singers and actors.”

He continued, “The female stars showed a side to them that isn’t normally seen. Seungyeon had unique ideas about dating with a strong feminine side, while Hyorin was cool about everything. Sunhwa was also different from the ‘blank sheet’ character she’s known to be. Lizzy was well-loved by the male stars and worked hard to escape her ‘saturi’ image. Still, she couldn’t help but slip in her country dialect now and then, which was cute.”

The spin-off is the dating version of ‘We Got Married’. The continuation of the show will depend on how the viewers receive it for now.

We revealed earlier that Block B was preparing for their comeback and that leader Zico was scared that Cho PD wouldn't give them enough time to prepare. But it seems that Zico and Kyung finalized the new release as it was revealed that Block B will be releasing "Welcome to the Block" on February 2nd.

The mini album consists out of 5 songs, including "Action", "LOL", "Go Crazy", "Synchronization 100%" and "Did You Or Did You Not". All tracks were produced by Zico and Kyung, together with various other known artists such as Phantom member Kiggen, XEPY, Delly Boi, Rhymer, Won Younghun and Lee Kwan.

Together with the song titles, the first sentences for the songs' lyrics were also revealed.

Chocolat has been selected as the new endorsement models for sportswear brand, ‘NBA Korea‘!

To start 2012 off on a fresh note, the NBA was looking for a new group of models to represent their brand. They came across the girls performing at the half-time show of a professional baseball game on New Year’s Day, and fell in love with the girls’ sporty charm.

Representatives said, “We hope that Chocolat’s promotions will aid in the rise of our brand image.”
