On December 30th, CNN GO, a website dedicated to Asian tourism, published an article on the top reasons to visit Korea this year. On that list, Big Bang’s upcoming comeback and the “Hallyu Madness” were listed as the 3rd top reason. The article discusses how 2012 is “a good year for K-Pop” and how the upcoming 21st Seoul Music Awards on January 19th is set to be the event of the year.
Other reasons listed in the article included: “Visit Korea Year”, Korea Grand Sale, the opening of the International Finance Center (IFC) in Yeouido, healthy Korean food, and the Yeosu Expo.
In response to the article, netizens have commented:
“I agree 100% with the author’s opinions. The top reason why I want to go to Korea is Big Bang.”
“Korea is the most interesting country out of all the places I’ve visited.”

Date: 2012-01-05 11:06 am (UTC)It's almost better to list Hallyu/Kpop as it's own reason rather than one group.

Date: 2012-01-05 11:24 am (UTC)Those reasons listed are so lame. If they had said something like "Wonderful Exciting Entertainment! Go watch your favourite kpop group perform" It's not like Big Bang is a group thats SUPER active in Korea anyway. :/

Date: 2012-01-05 12:12 pm (UTC)Yes my first trip was Rain focused, I was on a deadline. Once I got there I was like woah 2 nights with Rain and the rest was 10x more amazing. Kpop and entertainment as a whole should make you interested but if that's yout sole reason for going. One should stay their ass home. JS The only time Kpop entered my mind while there is when I was jammed on a subway up against an ad or walked into a shop that had some overly glossy cutout of some idol shoved in the corner. It's not like there is a red Kpop idol rug greeting you at the airport. I We see the fans and enjoy this "world" but it's not all kpop this and kpop that over there. This YG love is getting out of control. CNN really :/ you have failed.

Date: 2012-01-05 12:50 pm (UTC)If people wanna go to Korea to see their idols it doesn't mean they won't enjoy other things, it just means that that's what brought them there
and as long as they're spending money, I don't think anyone really cares
Heck, people come to Florida to go to theme parks for God's sakes!

Date: 2012-01-05 09:33 pm (UTC)Of course they should go for other reasons and to broaden their horizons etc etc but heck, at least they're leaving their damn country!
There are so many people out there that don't even want to show an interest in different cultures it's disconcerting so at least people who are willing to travel just to see their bias are being pro-active.
Most of the time, it's the case of come for x and stay for errrthang else, nay?
