More than 40 South Koreans a day are taking their lives and the government in Seoul has recognised it is a problem that needs tackling. But, as the BBC's Lucy Williamson finds out, the reasons for such a high suicide rate are complicated and not easy to solve.
The call-centre for Seoul's emergency services is a windowless bunker, buried alongside the forested slopes of Namsan hill.
It used to be the home of South Korea's spy agency. Now it is where the city's emergency calls come in: reports of traffic accidents, crimes, and - increasingly - suicides.
According to the government, more than 40 South Koreans a day are taking their own lives - five times as many as in their parents' day.
( Unsurprisingly, the operators here say calls from people wanting to commit suicide )

Last night, VIPs did their part to help Big Bang score a victory at MTV’s EMA awards in Belfast. As time ticks down, its Blackjacks chance to shine for the lovely ladies of YG, 2NE1. 2NE1 is up against nine other worldwide acts all competing for the title of MTV Iggy’s “Best New Band in the World.” Even though 2NE1 is in their sophomore year, and hardly new to K-Pop fans, they are new to the global world (outside of Asia) and this will be a well-deserved honor if they win.

YouTube, the video-sharing website owned by Google, will create a special section dedicated to K-pop for the first time, a move the government hopes can further promote Korean popular culture around the world.
Eric Schmidt, Google's executive chairman, met with President Lee Myung-bak in Cheong Wa Dae on Monday. He said the company is pursuing several avenues to help spread Korean cultural content, of which a dedicated K-pop channel is one.
Schmidt said Google is also considering using YouTube's live streaming capabilities to transmit Korean Wave concerts in real time. Another idea being mulled is the creation of a film production studio for small and mid-sized content developers in Korea.

AA's Woosang, "U-Know Yunho Sunbae Helped Me Before I Debuted"
Woosang (21, Woo Sang Soo) of 5-membered male idol group Double A (AA), has expressed his gratitude for TVXQ's U-Know Yunho (25, Jung Yunho).
On November 7, in an interview with TV Report, Woosang began by saying, "I am in personal contact with U-Know Yunho sunbae (senior). Some time ago, I went to the hair salon and there were many sunbaes there"
He revealed, "I greeted all the sunbaes and because I was a little disheartened, I just sat down. U-Know Yunho sunbae then came over and introduced me to the other sunbaes."
He continued, "U-Know Yunho sunbae told the other sunbaes to take good care of me. He really became a source of strength for me." He praised U-Know Yunho, "U-Know Yunho sunbae is really a sunbae who is very loyal."
Before Woosang debuted through AA, he was active as a choreography director and thus became associated with Shinhwa and TVXQ etc.
Meanwhile, AA is a male idol group comprised of Woosang, Aoora (25, Park Geun Ee), Joo Won (23, Hwang Joo Won), Ho Ik (18, Jung Ho Ik), Kimchi (18, Yoo Ye Hyang Gi). They are currently promoting their debut single "Because I'm Crazy".
