I'd like the song a lot better without that weird sound effect with her voice, but other than that, I'd jam to it. Plus, Eugene. ♥

On August 20, MBLAQ held their first concert titled MEN IN MBLAQ at Seoul Jamsil Indoor Stadium. The show included 24 songs with solo performances from all members, Joon's pole dance being one of the highlights of the evening, and was filmed in 3D for a later DVD release. The members' families were present, among them Mir's sister Go Eunah and Cheondoong's sister Dara. To see more coverage from the show, follow the cuts for images, videos and fancams (definitely not dial-up friendly!).

Just as with everywhere else, it looks like Hallyu has finally made its way into Russia, enough to gain some attention from the media.

To summarize, video basically calls it first the Korean ~language~ wave, and explains how many Russian students in Moscow are attending a prominent Korean language school called Won Gwang. Ever since last year, many teenagers and young adults have been showing great interest in the Korean wave, particularly in K-pop, and that has motivated them to learn more about Korea, particularly the language and culture.

Regarding SHINee tho... )

TL;DR
SHINee will arrive in Russia on the 5th.
They will be judges at a K-pop cover dance festival on September 6th.
Are ~most likely~ holding a small concert at a club called Milk, in Moscow on the 7th.

I say this indefinitely because the organizer is still working out the blueprints with the representatives from Korea. Apparently everything is "90% happening" as of now. (tbh I was considering flying to this from Seoul, my mom even offered to buy me a plane ticket.. but if there isn't a 100% guarantee then ehhh not sure if I want)

Also, info about this dance festival, it's actually a world-wide event: http://www.coverdance.org/

As is usually the case, the popularity of Hallyu is largely over-exaggerated and it's pretty underground in Moscow I think.. I visited there last winter and my Korean friends living there didn't know a thing about K-pop ~_~ And in all honesty this event sounds so sketchy I wouldn't be surprised if SHINee didn't hear anything about it until right before the plane ride there Dx

Red neon crosses are a common sight atop churches in South Korea. Church leaders say they are an important symbol of faith, but critics see them as an annoying source of light pollution.

Neon crosses light the South Korean sky. Government officials say that they are able to only make recommendations to churches about the light despite many complaints from residents.

For a quarter of a century, Kim Un-tae has found comfort in the red neon cross that sits atop the steeple of the Protestant church he founded here.

For the 70-year-old holy man, the soft glow of the religious icon has always signified that his faith was open for anyone willing to enter the doors of his church. "It's like a coastal lighthouse for passing ships in the dark," Kim said.
Yet critics say church crosses like Kim's are just another form of light pollution )

Several hundred South Korean activists on Saturday protested North Korea's use of concentration camps and called on Pyongyang to release South Koreans who are believed to be imprisoned in them.

The event became tense when a larger group of activists and labor unions arrived at the same venue—the plaza in front of Seoul's city hall—to rally for progressive causes, including free school lunches that are the subject of a citywide referendum in Seoul next week.

Hundreds of police were dispatched to stop the larger group from taking over the plaza, which the smaller group, led by residents of the hometown of a South Korean woman believed trapped in the North, had registered to use. Riot police gathered as the larger group took over a street one block away from the plaza.

The two protests remained peaceful and separate until around 9:30 p.m., when the larger group moved onto the plaza and started blaring music through loudspeakers. Police kept the two groups apart.
The tension illustrated a key characteristic of South Korea's political scene )

K-pop fans cheer at the 2011 Korean Music Wave Festival concert, held at the Incheon Munhak Stadium on Aug. 13.

Music mania boosts local tourism, export of hallyu cultural content

Following Korean pop concerts in June in Paris, the K-pop industry is enjoying a second Korean Wave around the globe. This is the first installment of a two-part series of articles looking at the bright and dark sides of K-pop. ― Ed.

Xing Lin, a Harvard University student who visited Seoul for a summer school program at Ewha Womans University, went to an unforgettable Korean pop concert earlier this month in Incheon where 19 groups performed for more than 40,000 cheering fans.

The 2011 Korean Music Wave Festival, held at Incheon Munhak Stadium on Aug. 13, was his first K-pop concert.

“The concert itself was exhilarating. It was really exciting to be in a stadium full of people who are all enthusiastic about K-pop, which is hard to find in the United States,” Lin told The Korea Herald.

Known as the "Apple Girl," Kim Yeohee has released her first music video teaser for her digital single "Half." Born in 1988, she became a rising star on Youtube when several of her videos of herself singing with several iPhones aiding her in her music performance.

She has participated in the KBS "Jungle Fish" OST album, and has already two digital singles, "My Song" (2010) and "Beautiful Day" (2010).

Kim Yeohee will be making her comeback with her upcoming digital single "Half."

The teaser begins with an old video of Kim Yeohee singing to Lady Gaga's "Poker Face," giving an insight of what she has gained popularity for. The video then proceeds to the teaser for "Half," in which Kim Yeohee is seen playing with a paddle pong. The scene changes to her being in a corner holding an umbrella when a orange ball of yarn is seen rolling to her. Throughout the teaser, a tall ball of orange yarn can be seen with the singer, and Kim Yeohee is seemingly being compared to a cat throughout.

What do you think of her music video teaser?

On August 21st, Super Junior’s Heechul celebrated fellow member Kim Kibum’s birthday and updated fans on his whereabouts.

Writing through his Twitter, Heechul said, “With Kim Kibum. We are celebrating his birthday with just the two of us. There aren’t any pretty girls. We also both hate sweet things so there’s no cake either, keke.”

Kim Kibum retweeted Heechul’s tweet from his own account, and added, “A very impressive birthday party.”

Although it may seem like a simple picture to most, the post is especially endearing to fans since Kim Kibum hasn’t participated in Super Junior’s activities for a while. He withdrew from the music limelight after their third album, “Sorry Sorry“, in order to better focus on his acting career.  Although there have been updates on his whereabouts, they were few and far in between, making Heechul’s post all that more special.

Netizens commented, “Kibum oppa is alive! I was curious!”, “Happy birthday!”, “You guys look like brothers!”, and “Such a welcoming sight, we hope to see you on TV again soon!”
