On August 17th, INFINITE finally held their official fanclub inauguration for ‘Inspirits‘ at the Dom Art Hall in Neungdong Children’s Park!

The boys not only performed their hit tracks, but they also engaged in honest talk sessions with their fans.

Leader Sunggyu began by saying, “We’re all so moved to have an official fanclub just a year into our debut. We’ll be promoting in Japan in October, so we hope to win #1 on a music program before then. It was because of all of our fans that we were able to grow and improve this much. We’re all so proud to have such a strong support base, so please keep looking forward to our growth.”

Hosted by MC Park Kyung Lim, the boys also sat down for a round of questions. When asked about their ideal types, member L replied with a shy smile, “I actually have an ideal type in one of the girl groups currently promoting today. A hint is that she’s in a five member girl group. They also won #1.”

Once fans began to show their discontent with his answer, he quickly added, “But of course, my love is all of my fans.”

INFINITE went on to perform “Be Mine“, “Before the Dawn“, “Come Back“, girl group parodies, and individual stages consisting of raps and ballads. Since it’s their first ever fanclub event, the boys touched their fans by continually thanking them for their support.

what are your guesses?

A South Korean state-run think tank on Thursday unveiled a North Korean court ruling sentencing a man to public execution, suggesting the totalitarian regime uses the punishment as part of its legal system.

The Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU) said it included images of the document in a 20-minute-long DVD it recently produced to cover North Korea's serious human rights abuses. The communist regime has long been accused of public executions, torture, and holding hundreds of thousands of political prisoners.

Pyongyang denies the accusations, calling them a U.S.-led attempt to topple its regime.

The DVD, titled "No Tears," was produced based on the eyewitness accounts of North Korean defectors. More than 21,000 North Koreans have fled poverty and repression in their homeland to settle in the South since the end of the 1950-53 Korean War.

In the ruling, dated September 2010, North Korea's top court sentenced a 40-year-old man to public execution on charges of stealing six cows, or deliberate damage to national wealth.

It is the first time such a document has been released in South Korea, according to KINU. The institute said it has been difficult to find the legal grounds for public executions in North Korea's criminal code, but the ruling, which it obtained from a defector, shows the existence of legal procedures that include the punishment. KINU estimates that at least 60 public executions were carried out in the North last year.

South Korean police said Thursday they had broken up an art smuggling ring used to raise money for the North by selling paintings produced by state artists.

Police said the case confirmed the impoverished communist state had secretly been selling art abroad to earn much-needed hard currency.

"The North's art studio obviously earns foreign cash out of this deal," said Lee Heung-Hoon, a senior detective in Seoul.

Police said they were holding a 46-year-old Korean-Chinese woman, surnamed Kim, on suspicion of smuggling some 1,300 North Korean paintings via China.
Officers were also questioning three South Koreans who allegedly sold 1,139 paintings for a total of 30 million won ($27,900) )

When management agency JYP Entertainment, whose stable includes manufactured bands 2PM, Wonder Girls and Miss A, interviewed for new staff last week, five of the six finalists were from Yonsei University and one from Korea University.

"These days when we recruit new staff, a lot of graduates of prestigious universities apply. We seem to attract young talents who would normally go to large corporations," a staffer said.

YG Entertainment, which manages Big Bang and 2NE1, has a similar story to tell. The company quietly advertised one vacant job on an employment portal, and 322 people applied. "Even though we specified that the job requires just certain level of foreign language skills, most of the applicants attached transcripts of near-perfect TOEIC, TOEFL and JPT scores," said a staffer.

The status of entertainment agencies has grown thanks to the Korean Wave, and this is reflected in current trend in the job market. Until a decade ago, most showbiz agencies hired staff through close-knit networks within the industry. But open-competition recruitment has become more widespread with emergence of big corporate agencies with sophisticated management expertise.

first of all: sorry if the translation sounds a bit weird but i wanted to share this with you guys as soon as possible so i translated it in a rush (if you find mistakes please tell me about it and i'll edit the text). srsly, this is just.. uh. first of all i have to say that popcorn magazine is not really popular in germany, it has a few readers but tbh im still surprised that it exist, i thought nobody buys it lol. second i have to say that most of the names are totally wrong, e.g. they write that Victoria is Krystal or Seungri is G-Dragon. and third.. i dont want my kpop in germany jfc.
oh and i forgot: my favorite sentence from the whole article is the thing about SNSD singing songs that sound like a washing-powder-commercial song.

edit: i bolded the most lulzy parts for the TL;DR people out there

South Korean pop music, or K-pop, has reportedly started to gain popularity in North Korea.

Despite a stern crackdown by the North’s security authorities, many people in the North led by the children of high-income families are learning the latest South Korean folk songs and dance, news reports say.

Introducing this trend, the U.S.-based Radio Free Asia said Tuesday, “Names of South Korean dance groups, such as Girls’ Generation’ and Big Bang are no longer unheard of in North Korea.”

A Chinese trader who frequently visits North Korea told the broadcaster, “South Korean dance fever is sweeping young people in Pyongyang,” adding, “A homemaker of a well-heeled family asked me to get a Girls’ Generation CD to her recently.”
