Rainbow’s Jisook dedicates a handwritten letter to her late mother

Rainbow’s Kim Jisook recently unveiled a heartwarming handwritten letter that she dedicated to her fans and late mother, who unfortunately passed away on July 4th from a chronic disease.

The letter read,

“I’m holding a pen today because I wanted to now express my honesty more than ever before. I feel as though many people were shocked due to the sudden and painful happenings that have happened. It’s been the most heartbreakingly painful, and most weakening times of my life, but I earned courage thanks to everyone’s encouragement, belief, and waiting for me.”

Jisook then went on to thank her group members and company staff for helping her send away her mother.

She added, “Sooner or later, I will return to being the bright and cheerful Jisook of Rainbow, and the cute maknae daughter Jisook.”

“The world’s most beautiful and kind angel, my mother! If I were to be reborn, I want to be reborn as your daughter again.”

Younha sues Lion Media for contract termination

It was revealed on the 11th that singer Younha has sued her agency of 7 years, Lion Media, requesting for a termination of contract due to questionable validity.

The same day, through Twitter, a statement that someone saw Younha crying while testifying in court, spread rapidly.

After further research, it was discovered that this lawsuit was initially filed by Younha against Lion Media in April.

Her agency is currently reticent about their side of the situation, saying, “We have nothing to say at this time.”

Undoubtedly, more information will be slowly released by both sides so stay tuned to allkpop for more details on this lawsuit.

Joon's Honorific Problems

During MBLAQ’s interview with TVReport, Lee Joon talked about his age in relation to fellow members Seungho and G.O as well as 2PM’s Junsu. Lee Joon mostly explained why he calls all of them hyung (what younger men call older men) despite being a similar age to all three individuals.

Lee Joon was born in February of 1988 while Seungho and G.O were born in October and November respectively of 1987. This would mean that all three of them would be in the same grade and they would’ve been on friendly terms with each other with no such need for honorifics. However despite this, Lee Joon still uses honorifics and calls the other two hyung.

Lee Joon stated with a sigh, “From the very beginning, I’ve created the wrong image.”

Seungho said, “At first, because he called me hyung, I thought that was actually the case and I was his hyung. After later finding out that he was born really early in 1988, I told him there was no need to call me that, but he said he was comfortable with it so we continued our relationship as hyung and dongsaeng.”

Lee Joon replied, “I didn’t know it would turn out like this!”

Seungho continued rather happily, “When we are with the other group members, he sees the damage he’s caused.”

It was also revealed that 2PM’s Junsu is good friends with both Seungho and G.O and despite being born in early 1988 like Lee Joon, Junsu doesn’t call them hyung. All three of them act like they’re the same age.

G.O elaborated, “Although Lee Joon is friends with him, Seungho and I are also friends with him so Lee Joon has no choice but to call him hyung as well,” which brought much laughter amongst all the members.

STOP THE WORLD! ZE:A tops Hanteo’s real time album sales chart!

ZE:A returned with their special single album, “Exciting” last week on July 8th. In the short four days since it’s release, the group has managed to nab the number one spot on Hanteo’s real time album sales chart

ZE:A’s previous album releases unfortunately coincided with high profile incidents such as the ROKS Cheonan sinking and the devastating earthquake in Japan, both of which hindered the group’s sales as the world’s focus was shifted elsewhere. Fortunately, there were no such incidents with this latest release.

This title track, “Watch Out!” is about a shy boy struggling to confess his love and the lyrics match the sweet melody perfectly. The special single also includes “Heart for 2” and “Why?”, the latter that member Jung Heechul participated in composing and writing.

Congratulations to ZE:A for this accomplishment.

IU to return to her studies after ‘Kiss and Cry’

Following her recent elimination from SBS’s ‘Kiss and Cry,’ IU has finally found some downtime in her busy schedule and will be returning to her studies.

Currently in her senior year of high school, IU has been diligently learning Japanese and studying music to fulfill her future dreams of debuting in Japan and becoming an accredited singer-songwriter.

A representative of Loen Entertainment said, “IU was practicing Japanese and music while she was on ‘Kiss and Cry’, but now she’s got extra time to really focus and devote to her studies.”

We wish the young singer the best with both her studies and her career!

Woman striker rallies Korea workers from the top of a crane

It has to be one of the loneliest picket lines going -- a woman by herself on the top of a crane.

For South Korean labour activist Kim Jin-suk, crane No. 85 at a Busan shipyard is her soapbox to demand workers' rights and the reversal of a local shipbuilder's plans to lay off around 400 employees .

Kim's case has become a cause celebre in South Korea where there is growing anger among the middle and working classes towards the government's business-friendly policies and workers' failure to get a slice of big companies' profits.

Kim and 700 others had gone on strike against the layoffs. An agreement to go back to work was reached last month, but she and about a hundred others refused to give up their protest.

Can Korea globalize homegrown operas?

When Chinese composer Tan Dun’s “First Emperor” debuted at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, starring the legendary singer Placido Domingo, Korea wondered if this something it could do it as well.

The globalization of local operas was the main topic of a seminar held on the sidelines of the Korea Opera Festival, which will close July 24 after a month-long run.

The Academy Award-winning Tan had the honor of being one of five composers who conducted their own opera at the prestigious Metropolitan Opera, and the “First Emperor” has been staged repeatedly in New York and at the opera house of Karlsruhe, Germany.
This is the kind of recognition that Korea’s operatic circle hopes to achieve.

But many experts at the seminar seemed pessimistic about such prospects, particularly in light of the financial constraints that professionals involved in the creation of an opera face.

It’s been announced that actress Song Ji Hyo recently signed with C-JES Entertainment, the same company that hosts popular pop trio JYJ.

Song Ji Hyo became popular thanks to her involvement with SBS’s ‘Running Man‘; her quirky character and personality earned her the nickname, ‘Blank Ji Hyo’. Her reputation for being one-of-a-kind got another boost today, after it was revealed that Song Ji Hyo became the first recruited actor under C-JES.

A representative stated, “On July 1st, Ji Hyo signed and started an exclusive contract with C-JES Entertainment… However, the initial amount and percentage of revenue shares is currently unknown.”

Her representatives also stated, “After acting in ‘A Frozen Flower‘, Song Ji Hyo has been looking to make a big screen comeback… Although she has discussed starring in the film ‘Never Ending Story‘ – which stars Uhm Tae Woong - she decided not to take on the project.”

C-JeS Entertainment of which Xiah Junsu, Hero Jaejoong, and Micky Yoochun are part moved only with the activities of the three singers without recruiting outside entertainers. Planking is an internet phenomenon that encourages people to take pictures of themselves lying facedown and with their arms positioned rigidly to the side. It’s become wildly popular because of the unusual locations players choose to plank.

Comedic musical duo, UV, recently released their music video for their latest track “Burn Intense“!

In the past, UV gained popularity with their hit music videos “Sorry I Can’t Be Cool” and “Itaewon Freedom“. Now, UV is back with another track that appears to be burning hot.

Recently released in 84 countries, the music video has already been receiving a lot of hits. While the music video itself is a CF for Coca-Cola’s energy drink Burn Intense, hence the title, it nonetheless has audiences captivated and rolling over in laughter.
