During 2AM’s first ever solo concert last month, Jinwoon voiced his secret desire to release his very own rock album. Well it looks like the maknae has finally begun preparations for his solo!

Jinwoon will indeed be recording rock tracks, as revealed by a Big Hit Entertainment representative: “Jinwoon has personally produced the tracks and is preparing a style of rock music that regular idols can’t perform. He’s trying to capture the essence of rock for his solo project.”

Although the album is still in its production stages, representatives confirmed that he’ll be bringing in talented musicians to form a band.

Jinwoon has prior experience as a rock band member during his high school years, and although he began pursuing ballads with 2AM, he’s always expressed his love and interest for rock to his fans. The singer has also been consistently practicing the guitar, bass, and drums, and even performed the electric guitar during 2AM’s nation-wide tour.

"It's the truth. People have never told me I was a genius or that I was good at music. When that article came out, I was glad because it was the truth."

When asked about the plagiarism accusations against Heartbreaker, he answered:

"I feel like it depends on the person. I think it's a part I have to fix, so I don't make a mistake next time. The only thing I can do as a singer is to show a better stage next time instead of writing an apology. I didn't do anything wrong, but I ignored family and friends' calls and I felt like I had done something wrong. I was depressed, and all the attacks hurt me. I wondered what made them think those things about me. But I felt like I had to move on."

Peruvian's vote Donghae to be the sexiest Korean male

Super Junior’s Donghae was chosen as the sexiest Korean male on a survey held by an Argentinian website, “Listas W.”

The survey asked readers to choose the “#1 sexiest Korean male of 2010″, and although Donghae ranked first, the vast majority of Super Juniormanaged to rank in at the top.

Leader Lee Teuk took second, followed by Yesung at third, Kyuhyun at fourth, and Siwon at fifth.  Sixth place was taken by SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong, followed by Sungmin at seventh, 2PM’s Junsu at eighth, and JYJ’s Jaejoong at ninth.  CNBLUE’s Yonghwa rounded off the top 10.

KARA's Drama Debut & New Song

On the 10th, 5 member Korean girl group “KARA” announced details about their work in the TV Tokyo drama “URAKARA” (Friday, 12am, Starts the 14th).

It’s their first drama performance through Japan & Korea. They will be doing missions in order to get men to fall for them. The January 10th episode of KBS2TV’s “Dream High” saw the budding romance between IU’s plump character ‘Pilsook‘ and 2PM Wooyoung’s character, ‘Jason‘.

Pilsook handed Jason a water bottle after dance rehearsal and Jason told her, “Thank you.” Pilsook was overjoyed by his nice reply.

Later in the episode, the school was giving out their uniforms and when they came across IU’s, they said, “Is this a blanket or a skirt? Owner of this XXL uniform, step forward!”

Pilsook instantly ran away and hid so that no one could point their finger at her for being the ‘XXL girl’. Then, Jacon took the uniform and said, “Mine.”

Insung, who was giving them out, said, “It’s a skirt. It’s for girls. Boys have to wear pants.” Jason replied, “Do you divide girls and boys by skirts and pants? So I guess those girls are all boys,” he pointed to girls wearing pants. He added, “Why are you so concerned? I’m saying it’s mine.”

Jason gave the uniform to Pilsook and then fled. Pilsook was touched by the kind gesture and shyly and quietly said, “Thank you,” but no one could hear her.

I wonder what kind of a love line these two will share.

The youngest member of Big Bang, Seungri, will be releasing a solo mini album on the 20th and have sung a duet together with IU and is gaining a lot attention.

On the 10th on YG’s blog, Seungri’s mini album, VVIP, release was confirmed to be on the 20th and will be releasing a teaser video of ‘So What’. On the 20th, when the album is releasing, 2 music videos will be released for the double title songs on the album.

There’s a total of 7 tracks on this album and Seungri worked on most of the songs. Among the tracks, track 5, ‘I Know’, is gaining a lot of attention because the female solo singer, IU, is featured in the song.

IU have sung duets with 2 A.M.’s Im Seulong with the song, ‘Nagging’ and ‘It’s You’ with Sung Shikyung. Through these songs, she have shown her skills and the music charts prove that as well. She is currently the female singer that is getting a lot offers to sing a duet with.

A representative said, “It was before IU debuted 3 years ago and she happened to meet the members of Big Bang. After that, she’s been keeping in touch with the members and during that time, Seungri offered to IU that when she debuted that they should sing a duet together. Currently, IU is getting a lot of offers to sing duet songs but among those, she decided to do a duet with Seungri in order to keep the promise she made with Seungri.”

In IU’s duet songs, her voice wraps around the other person’s voice giving it a warm feeling and it has been said that Seungri has a unique voice when he sings. A representative said, “IU’s husky voice and Seungri’s unique voice work well together and it’s a new partnership that makes the song sound fresh and cute. They’re the same age and seemed comfortable around each other so they were able to finish the recording well.”

Seungri has improved as a musician as he took part in creating his solo mini album. YG Entertainment’s president, Yang Hyun Seok, expressed his enthusiasm as the release date is approaching and said that he’s expecting a lot from this album. JYJ’s Junsu (who recently began preparations for his second musical, “Tears of Heaven“) has demonstrated his influence on ticket sales once more. The production company of the musical, Seol Company, revealed, “Tickets for ‘Tears of Heaven’ were available for the second time, and within 3 minutes and 30 seconds, all 13,000 seats were sold out.  This is a new record compared to the first, in which all 15,000 seats were sold out in the first five minutes.”

Seol Company expressed that they believed the popularity of “Tears of Heaven” was possible because of Junsu’s fans.  The musical previously made headlines, as fans auctioned off tickets for up to $1,300 USD; the singer was also chosen as the #1 male actor for the “2010 Golden Ticket Power” poll on InterparkINT.

“Tears of Heaven” will begin playing on February 1st.

After recording much success with their Chuseok special, “Idol Star Athletics Championship” last year, MBC revealed that they’ll be bringing back the athletics event a two-day Lunar New Years special, which will feature both track and swimming.

The championship itself was much loved last year, as fans enjoyed seeing 130 of their favorite idols running around and competiting against other stars and friends.

A representative of MBC spoke with Newsen on January 11th and revealed, “To continue with the success of last year’s Chuseok special, we’ll be adding a swimming championship to the list of activities. We were going to make the event strictly swimming, but not all idols can swim; it’d be impossible to have a show with only idols who could swim.”

He continued, “We’ve researched and found that there was an official athletics championship featuring swimming as one of its categories, and we decided to go with that. About 140~150 idols will be joining the competition. We’re currently working hard to show an upgraded version of last year’s Chuseok special.”

Representatives are currently working on scheduling with the idols. After School’s UEE, who previously expressed that she wanted a swimming championship, has revealed that she must balance her schedule in order to find time for it.

Recording for the show will begin on January 23rd, and the swimming competition will take place on the 30th. The show will broadcast on February 5th and 6th.

A Cube was recently created as Cube Entertainment’s independent label. Cube Entertainment is under representative Choi Jin Ho, and presented popular artists BEAST, 4MINUTE, and G.NA.

By joining a well-known, powerful company, Huh Gak is expected to cause a large force in the music industry.

On this, a member of A Cube stated, “We are currently in discussion. There have not been any decisions made.” However, positive notes were taken on this deliberation, and it is expected that Huh Gak may most likely sign under the label.

With both countries joining hands, will this send a message of hope to the Korean musical scene?

The musical [Tears of Heaven], which opens from the first of next month in the Haeorum Theatre at The National Theatre of Korea, is the most highly anticipated piece of work in 2011. The planning period itself took 3 years. The production cost was also more than 5 billion won. Composer Frank Wildhorn, producer Gabriel Berry and famous Broadway creators have been involved. What's unique is that the team and overseas creative team is made up of people who come from 5 different countries, like the United States, Britain and the Czech Republic.

The setting for [Tears of Heaven] is the Vietnam War. There is also a larger picture beyond the love triangle involving a Vietnamese girl, a Korean soldier and an American general. From the planning stage, they were already targeting global expansion.

What's also out of the norm, is that the soundtrack was released before the opening performance. It is becoming a hot topic that one of the world's finest musical actors Brad Little (47), and Kim Junsu (24), who is evolving as a musical actor, will be standing on the same stage.

◆[Jealous of Kim Junsu] = A foreign actor appearing in a musical produced in Korea? This is another unusual point about [Tears of Heaven]. Brad Little will take on the role of the American general. The intention was to portray it as realistically as possible and because he is Brad Little, he was chosen without any objection.

Brad Little has undertaken the role of the lead in more than 2,200 performances of [The Phantom of the Opera] and he is also of the most leading Broadway actors of the highest standard. The full volume of his voice and the rich, appealing power of the colour of his tone makes hearts tremble. He has also secured a large fanbase through his participation in [The Phantom of the Opera] in 2005 and [Jenkyll and Hyde] in 2009.

Seoul arrests man using Twitter to support North Korea

In what is believed to be the first case of its kind, the South Korean authorities have arrested and filed charges against a man for posting Twitter and other internet messages praising North Korea.

The 54-year-old South Korean man, identified only as Cho, is said by the South Korean government-affiliated Yonhap news agency to have posted 100 messages and video clips in support of the regime in Pyongyang.

Mr Cho's alleged offences took place between 2009 and October last year and involve content on his own blog, Twitter and other websites.

South Korea promotes credit cards to go greener

Kim Yong-sook is an idealist who longs for a greener lifestyle, which means walking more and wasting less. But she never dreamed that her credit card could help save the planet.

The 59-year-old stay-at-home mother is one of many set to take advantage of a new program in South Korea that will offer "green credits" for consumers who embrace a low-carbon lifestyle. Credit cards have become more than a purchasing tool in South Korea, offering discounts on movies or food and freebies. Now a new government program will add energy consumption incentives to that list.

Indeed, according to a new 2011 policy plan announced by the Ministry of Environment, buying eco-friendly products or living green in ways such as taking public transit by using a so-called green credit card, will be good both for the environment and your wallet. The credits can be redeemed for cash or be used to lower utility bills.

South Korea urged to end HIV tests for foreign teachers

UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon has asked South Korea to end mandatory HIV tests for foreign nationals seeking visas to work as teachers.

Ban made the request during the G20 economic summit in Seoul last November.

Most of those who are tested are foreigners recruited to teach in English language schools. They say that the practice is discriminatory and contributes to their being stigmatised as drug abusers and sexually promiscuous people.

Meanwhile, the British embassy in Seoul is planning to provide English language classes to North Korean defectors to help them integrate into the South Korean education system.

Embassy officials said the programme was due to start this month.

British ambassador Martin Uden told the Yonhap news agency that a lack of English-language ability can challenge defectors trying to access higher education in the south.

U-KISS begins preparations for U.S. debut

Boy group U-KISS is planning on entering the U.S. music market, and have already kicked off preparations for their debut.

According to information revealed by their agency, NH Media, on January 11th, the agency will be utilizing the members’ different cultural backgrounds and language skills as the base for their debut in the States.

Representatives revealed, “We’ve already listened to about 100 new songs for their new album. The songs chosen will be group ballads, a genre which hasn’t been featured in U-KISS’s albums. Our production team in the States, “I PED,” has already prepared choreography videos.”

They continued, “We’re currently discussing how we’ll be bringing the boys over, since they have various schedules to still complete in Korea. We’ll be balancing it with the group’s Korean comeback.”

Their album will be completed by February.
