Now officially joining the Hallyu field, girl group SNSD will be having their very first showcase on August 25th, at Tokyo Ariake Coliseum. This extravagant event is expected to unite over 30,000 fans, almost 15 times as big as other typical fan showcases.

Although the agency initially planned to hold the showcase once, the demands were so high that they had to add 2 more shows for the event on the same day.

SM Entertainment expressed, “Because of the high sales volume of SNSD’s DVD (Oricon charts) and the immense attention showered on SNSD by the media and fans, its an amazing feat to have to increase the number of shows just for their first showcase. With the estimated 30,000 fans in attendance, its sufficient to say that SNSD is already the best girl group in Asia.”

SNSD’s debut Japanese single, Genie will be released on September 8th while the MV will be released first through Universal Music Japan Youtube channel on August 20th. The SNSD girls are currently busy preparing for SM Town Live ‘10 this weekend before their showcase next week.

BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA -- One Saturday this month, roughly 10,000 South Koreans interrupted their usual weekend activity of playing Internet games for something else: to watch professionals play Internet games.

They gathered in plastic chairs on a beach just before sunset, paying the equivalent of $3 per ticket. Advertisements hung from the stage, the speakers and the overhead lights. The players for the two teams wore uniforms, distinguished by sponsorship logos of competing telecommunications companies.

While South Korea's Internet game industry has grown into an entertainment force on par with television and film, Internet addiction has become a national social problem. Elite Korean professional gamers have loyal fans, lucrative salaries and signature celebration moves. A typical high school student, meanwhile, spends 23 hours a week playing Internet games.

This year, F.T Island was not seen much in Korea as they were busy with promotions in Japan. After successfully rising to third place in Oricon charts, this idol band group plans to make a comeback in Korea with a mini album that will be released on the 25th.

Recently, member Lee Hong Ki held an interview with Sports Seoul regarding the new album. After several questions regarding the album, he was asked about CNBlue’s leader Jung Yonghwa. In response, Lee Hong Ki answered, “He is a good friend and rival that I often compete with. Although I debuted first, I am glad that Jung Yonghwa turned out so well. It might be because I experienced living as a celebrity first, but I understand how hard it must be for Yonghwa to go through such a busy schedule.”

Additionally, regarding CNBlue in general, Hong Ki expressed, “I am glad that CNBlue is working with us to promote a band type of music. When we see CNBlue, we become encouraged to work harder. I think that it is necessary to have a friendly rival. If we get the chance again, we want to perform with them together at a concert in the future.”

Meanwhile, F.T Island plans to comeback with their new title song Love Love Love composed by Kim Do Hoon and Lee Sang Ho.

Recently, CNBLUE and SNSD’s Seohyun took some time off from their busy schedules and volunteered to do some charity work together.

A post titled ‘Seohyun who participated in volunteer work with CNBLUE after filming We Got Married’ was posted on an online community website. In the post, there was a photo of CNBLUE members and Seohyun amidst a group of volunteer workers. This charity organization (most likely the Make A Wish Foundation based on the poster behind them) arranged for CNBLUE to meet with children who have incurable diseases. That day, CNBLUE’s Yonghwa had his virtual wife Seohyun make a surprise appearance.

Netizens who saw the post complimented the We Got Married Yongseo couple saying, “Although it’s an imaginary relationship, it’s good to see this couple“, and “Whatever this couple does seems so warm.”

I’d have to agree, and it’s great to see that the couple are doing their part in society. First by donating blood, and now with charity work. They’re starting to remind me of the real-life celebrity couple Sean and Jung Hye Young. Although we are used to seeing Sean more for his adorable pictures with his children, he and his wife are known for their unending support for organizations such as Baffor and Compassion.

Seoul – South Korea has blocked North Korea's new Twitter account from being accessed in the South, saying the tweets contain "illegal information" under the country's security laws, officials said on Thursday.

North Korea announced last week saying it has a Twitter account and a YouTube channel in an apparent effort to boost its propaganda war against South Korea and the US.

The Twitter account gained more than 8 500 followers in a week, though it has posted just 30 tweets linking to reports that praise North Korean leader Kim Jong Il and lambast South Korea and the US over their ongoing joint military drills.

North Korea, one of the world's most secretive countries, blocks internet access for all but the elite among its 24 million citizens but is believed to have a keen interest in information technology.

On Thursday, South Korea's state-run Communications Standards Commission began blocking the site from internet users in the South trying to view the account, commission officials said.

The account has "contents that praises, promotes and glorifies" North Korea and they were confirmed as "illegal information" that is banned under the country's National Security Law, a commission statement said.

A government warning "illegal content" pops up when trying to access the Twitter account via South Korean IP addresses.

Unique nature of social networks

"We decided to act immediately, after having considered the unique nature of social network services like Twitter, where specific information can be dispersed to thousands in a short period of time," Han Myung-ho, a commission official, said.

He said the commission has no immediate plans to block the North's YouTube channel but gave no further details.

The two Koreas technically remain in a state of war because the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty.

The Twitter account opened last Thursday under the name uriminzok, which means "our nation" in Korean, and the YouTube channel was created last month, under the username uriminzokkiri.

More than 130 videos have been uploaded to YouTube including clips that condemn and mock "warmongers" South Korea and the US for blaming North Korea for the sinking of a South Korean warship in March. The North has insisted it has nothing to do with the sinking, which led to the death of 46 South Korean sailors.

State Department spokesperson PJ Crowley said on Tuesday that the US welcomed North Korea to the social media forums but challenged its authoritarian leaders to allow its citizens full access to the sites, as most other governments do.

The official North Korean Uriminzokkiri website, which is run by the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in Pyongyang, has been blocked in South Korea alongside 64 other North Korean-run and pro-North Korean websites, said Shim Joo-hyung, a spokesperson for the standards commission.

Fans are going berserk over what appears to be a tweeted photo of Teen Top’s L.Joe participating in filming for Mnet’s ‘Scandal’, a show in which couples are created to act as if they are truly in a relationship.

The fact that L.Joe himself is only 17 and in high school worries many fans, and they feel that this is a bit young to be starring in such a show. Some have been asking, “Did [the] company think through this carefully?,” while others’ thoughts have been more on the lines of “I wonder [if there] will be any criticism [because] an underage [person is filming] thing.” However, it seems that filming is set and L.Joe will be appearing on this show regardless of how fans are feeling towards the matter.

It appears that L.Joe’s female counterpart is a high school student herself, and since filming is already underway the couple will probably be broadcast soon. Hopefully, no big issues will arise from this matter.

Lately, besides Sunmi’s occasional Twitter updates, fans have been left in the dark regarding Sunmi’s latest whereabouts since her temporary leave from the Wonder Girls in February.

The next serving of 'hallyu'?

A poster for MBC drama “Pasta’’

The word "hallyu," or Korean wave, first appeared in the late 1990s, and it has been growing within the local entertainment industry over the years.

The word, which referred to the popularity of Korean culture around the world, has now become a representative term when explaining and defining Korean culture. It refers to almost all cultural aspects - from drama, music, food to fashion - and as much as Korea would like to see some effects in other parts of the world, it certainly impacts the entire region of Asia.

As multi-cultural exchange has been a common global phenomenon, Korea and its people need to keep an open and proactive attitude when examining and dealing with the current state of the hallyu.

Between Hollywood and Hallyuwood

Many young Koreans are avid fans of “Mid” (“Miguk” drama or American drama) and Hollywood movies these days. They are crazy about American television dramas such as “Prison Break,” “CSI” and “24,” and idolize Wentworth Miller, David Caruso and Kiefer Sutherland. Korean women love Miller, who plays the charming Michael Scofield in “Prison Break,” and have nicknamed him “wansonam” (Totally Adorable Man). They love to watch other American television shows including “American Idol,” “Friends,” and “Lost,” to name but a few. They are also fascinated by blockbuster Hollywood movies such as “The Dark Knight,” “Matrix” and “Inception.”

At the same time, however, Koreans criticize and even resent American TV  dramas and Hollywood movies, accusing them of spreading American values and capitalist ideology all over the world. “Hollywood movies play a crucial role on Americanizing the world,” leftist radicals insist resolutely. “In the early 20th century the world was westernized. Now the situation is even worse; the whole world is being Americanized.” They warn us that since globalization means Americanization, the world will soon end up with one monochromatic culture: American culture. Therefore, we should sabotage Hollywood movies.

A few hours ago Hyerim’s love for CN Blue was exposed on the next episode of Mnet Made in Wonder Girls, but it looks like there is more to look forward to as Sunye and YeEun go on a fun filled date with Jokwon and Seulong, plus Yubin’s fashionista status gets challenged.

In the next episode of Mnet Made in Wonder Girls we’ll get to see the girls and 2AM on their day off after the Wonder World Tour concert in Las Vegas back in July.

On this day, Sunye and YeEun chose to spend their day with the lovely Jokwon and Seulong in an amusement park. Taking a selca to start off the fun day, these best friends went on the log ride, drop tower and a roller coaster. As those who love amusement parks may know, there are some rides where pictures get taken while the passengers are screaming out loud. Well, thanks to Mnet we’ll get to see those funny pictures from Wonder Girls and 2AM and also the uncontrollable happiness of Sunye as she visits an amusement park for the first time in two years.

On this episode, Yubin’s fashionista status will also get challenged by YeEun who said, “If you can make the clothes that I pick for you look fashionable, then I will acknowledge you as a fashionista”, and then proceeded to choose the tackiest clothes for Yubin.

Will Yubin be able to prove she has become a true fashionista after her past as a tomboy? Stay tuned for the next episode of Mnet Made in Wonder Girls airing on the 20th at 6:00PM.

Yes, you’ve read it right! You guys have the chance to participate in making One Way’s artwork for their next album.

One Way member Chance made an announcement on his Twitter account that the trio are still the process of making their album’s artwork.

Chance further added that the group needs pictures of “one way” road signs from around the world.

Requirements are placed here... )

Can't think of a witty ending because the mod keeps rejecting it.
