Lee SeungGi and So Nyeo Shi Dae have been voted the male and female most active entertainers for year 2009.

On KBS Entertainment Weekly aired on 26th December and a year-end star questionnaire was conducted with KBS Broadcasting Culture Research Institute and the 2 were voted the most active entertainers of the year.

Lee SeungGi emerged #1 with 20.3% votes with both his drama SBS ‘Brilliant Legacy’ and also participation in filming of KBS '2Days1Night' achieving as high as 70% viewerships on his TV appearance, also he has received acknowledge for his vocal capabilities.

Ranked at #2 is group 2PM, who went through the case of leader JaeBum leaving the group with 19.9% votes, and MC Yoo JaeSeok voted at #3 with 19.4% votes, #4 goes to MC Kang Ho Dong with 9.3% votes and Kim MyungMin who recently lost 20kg for his movie 'My Love By My Side' is at #5 with 8.2%.

For female entertainers, So Nyeo Shi Dae was chosen at #1 with 26.9% votes. Member Yuri said during the interview on the show, "It seems like a year when So Nyeo Shi Dae fly high".

Also MBC drama ‘SeonDeok Queen’ Go HyunJung is voted #2 with 22.9% votes, figure skater Kim YunA #3 with 18.2% votes, newcomer singers who did not seemed like newcomers 2NE1 at #4 with 10% votes, and causing a craze with the song 'Abracadabra' group Brown Eyed Girls at #5 with 8.5% votes.

Kibum and his hair are getting busy

Super Junior’s AWOL member, Kim Kibum will be returning to the limelight starting next month. His acting activities for 2010 include a play and a starring role in a movie.
 
Earlier this week the trailer for the movie, “Jumunjin” (주문진) appeared along with a release date of January 21, 2010. Kim Kibum plays a ghost man opposite Hwang Bora. The two had also worked together on the drama “Rainbow Romance” in 2005.
“Jumunjin” was set to be released earlier this year in the summer but was delayed until now. From the trailer, we finally know why Kibum has been holding onto that long hair for so long.

In addition to the movie role, Kibum is also casted in the play “A Nap” (낮잠). The play is a love story about a man who returns to his hometown and meets his first love, who cannot remember him due to Alzheimer’s disease. The Super Junior member will portray the man’s childhood life. Lee Ju-seung was also casted in this childhood role. The man in his old age will be played by Lee Young-ha, Kim Chang-wan, and Oh Kwang-rok.

The play will run from January 26th to March 28th, at the Baekam Art Hall in Samsung-dong, Seoul.

Park Chan-Wook, Director of the Year

Park Chan-wook was named the best director of the year by his fellow film directors, who also picked actor Song Kang-ho and actress Kim Hye-ja as the year's best actors.

The 12th Directors' Cut Awards was held at CGV Apgujeong in Seoul on Monday. The winners were selected by votes from 238 directors who are members of the directors' network.

Park's latest film "Thirst" inspired hope in the discouraged Korean cinema community by winning the Jury Prize at the 62nd Cannes International Film Festival this year, the director's group said. "Park's films, which are always fresh and novel, are the most cinematic," it added. It is the fourth time that Park has received the award as he was previously honored for his films "Joint Security Area," "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance," and "Oldboy."

Song won the best actor award for a fifth time, becoming the winningest actor in the history of the Directors' Cut Awards.

The awards for the best rookie actor and actress went to Kim Dong-wook of "Take Off" and Park Bo-young of "Scandal Maker." Korean-French Ounie Lecomte won the best new film director award for "A Brand New Life."

Yang Ik-june, director of "Breathless," received the award for the best independent film, and director Yoon Je-kyoon, who produced and directed the disaster blockbuster "Haeundae," won the award for the best producer. "Haeundae" drew the fourth largest audience in Korean film history.

The directors also awarded a tribute trophy to late actress Jang Jin-young, who died of stomach cancer in September.

Goo Hye Sun, doing big things: makes her first directorial debut

Twenty-five-year-old actress Gu Hye-sun is at work on her new film Magic [요술] , and has cast her female lead: Seo Hyun-jin, a former pop singer turned actress.
Seo Hyun-jin got her start in 2001 with the SM girl group M.I.L.K, and went on to act in musicals and dramas like Hwang Jini and HIT. She first became friends with Gu back in her singer days, and was featured in Gu’s directorial debut, the short film The Madonna (aka The Cheerful Caretaker).
Magic is Gu Hye-sun’s first feature directorial project, and is set in a music school. Seo plays a genius pianist, and is currently immersed in practicing the instrument. The film will begin filming in mid-January after the male lead is cast.

KBS 2TV ‘Entertainment Tonight’ made a caption mistake.

Broadcast on December 26th, ‘Entertainment Tonight’ featured Year-end special questionnaire to select stars of “Top News Maker in Year 2009″.

The members of TVXQ who are currently in legal dispute with their label SM Entertainment were selected by votes as the Top 4 of 2009 News Maker. During the vote process, ‘Entertainment Tonight’ put a caption “Junsu, Changmin, and Yoochun are facing lawsuit against their label company” in introducing the case.

As the problem is, TVXQ members who are actually in lawsuit against SM are Micky Yoochun, Xiah Junsu, and Hero Jaejoong. While Choikang Changmin and U-Know Yunho are the rest members who remain in position with SM. This caption mistake is not a problem that can easily be ignored. Moreover, the news wrote ‘Micky Yoochun’ (‘믹’키유천) as ‘Meiky Yoochun’ (‘미’키유천).

TVXQ fans demanded a correction from ‘Entertainment Tonight’ regarding these mistakes. “If it’s me who get it wrong, it may be okay. But how can you have this kind of mistake?” “Names are sensitive issue in this case, and you get it wrong… it’s ridiculous.” “Just quick correct it and make an apology to TVXQ and their fans.” as the fans accused.

WILL ANYONE EVEN CARE?! Lee Jung-jae added to The Housemaid

Oh, this makes me SO happy. Lee Jung-jae (Typhoon, Oh Brothers) has been cast as the husband in the highly anticipated remake of classic Korean film The Housemaid, putting him in the middle of a confrontation between veteran actress Jeon Do-yeon and rising star Seo Woo.

The remake of the 1960 dark psychological thriller had initially attracted notice when casting Jeon Do-yeon (Secret Sunshine) as the housemaid who upends the lives of a married couple, then again stirred buzz when adding Seo Woo (Tamra the Island). In the original, the spouses are middle-aged and the maid is younger than the husband she seduces. However, this remake is taking a modern spin in casting Jeon as an older femme fatale who is brought in to work for a younger couple. (I say “older” but it hardly means she’s old; it’s just in relation to the original film. Jeon is 36, the same age as Lee, while Seo Woo is 24.) Still, even if the plot remains intact, this reversal does significantly alter the politics of the three-way relationship, and ought to make for some interesting shifts in dynamic.

I had heard rumors that Lee might be cast, but was not getting my hopes up in case those were just rumors. But with three really strong actors, a strong director, and source material that’s widely considered the best from the golden age of Korean cinema, well, expectations are climbing.

The Housemaid will begin filming next month and release in 2010.

On the Christmas special that aired on December 25th, Son Hoyoung was one of the male guests that was invited to have a party with the G7.

- Each member randomly picks a piece of paper with "tasks" written on it that they must do for Patty (Siwon has to find a way to make her laugh, Henry has to dance with her, Ryeowook has to tell Patty he loves her, Kyuhyun has to give her a massage, Zhoumi has to find a way to get Patty to say he's "shuai" ("handsome" or "cool"), Hangeng will play a prank on her).
- Hangeng and Zhoumi joke around because Zhoumi thinks his task will be pretty easy.
- Siwon tells them not to worry.
- Hangeng wonders how they'll pull off the prank -- "who should we get to fight each other?" (then they speak in Korean...so yeah. Anyone know what the Chinese subs are?)
- Patty introduces the group. She's afraid of saying each of their names because she thinks the screaming that will follow will damage her hearing.
- RW says "I love you" to Patty during his intro.
- Patty asks what kind of girls Donghae likes and he says they have to have a pretty forehead. Patty's like "Hm, is mine too much of a fivehead?" lol. Then he adds "big eyes, long hair, curly is okay". Henry says Donghae means Patty fits that type.
- Patty says Hangeng had the hardest time because he was the first Chinese member to go to Korea to train. She asks him to help translate because his Korean is the best. Hangeng says it was hard doing promotions in China at first due to the language barrier (he and Zhoumi were translating a lot and it was difficult), but now the rest of the members can understand and speak Chinese better so it's not a big deal. They can follow along and know what the general discussion is about. Donghae agrees and says he can slowly listen and guess what's being said. Patty mentions that the first time they met, only Hangeng and Siwon could communicate in Chinese. She compliments Siwon, but he goes "Oh no, no, no..." Patty then suggests that the fastest way to improve their Chinese is to find a Chinese girlfriend, and Siwon says, "Well, what do you think of us??" Patty's like "OHKAY, moving on" lol
- The next activity involves them writing down random questions they want to ask each other on dry-erase boards. Patty asks them to raise their hands if they have a girlfriend, but no one does. Henry says he's looking for one though haha.

A plastic surgeon in South Korea is becoming famous because he is able to change the "future" of their customers. How? Operating the so-called "lines of the hand" ...

Kim Sung-min, a physician and plastic surgeon, operated primarily the nose and eyes, but perhaps due to global economic crisis, the specialist began to be asked to perform hands surgery.

2010 Korean Cinema Lineup

The past year represented hope and revitalization for Korean cinema. While problems such as piracy linger on, the forecast for 2010 cinema appears promising with diverse projects in the making.

Cineastes are finding inspiration from the past and are bringing remakes of Korean classics as well as unique period movies. Big action flicks are gearing up for the 60th anniversary of the Korean War (1950-53) while much-anticipated sequels will cater to fans. Furthermore, a couple of Hollywood projects will head here for shoots.

Taecyeon and Yoona are secretly dating?

2PM's Taecyeon will perform with his "secret" girlfriend at the 2009 MBC Gayo Daejun. And guess who, that secret girlfriend is none other than Yoona of SNSD.

Fan girls, don't go crazy just yet. It's just a performance, or at least that's what we think.

The two will put on a special performance with a deep storyline. Let me lay it down for you. Taecyeon and Yoona have been dating secretly, they get in a fight over a small misunderstanding and Yoona starts to dodge Taecyeon's calls. SNSD tries to cheer Yoona up so they escape their dorm to have some fun, but during their night out, they run into 2PM. And of course, they make up after the members help them out and they all live happily ever after.

The two groups have been practicing hard, with sleepless nights for this performance and even though I'm really excited to see this performance, I'm kind of jealous. I mean think about all the time SNSD is getting to spend with these boys!

Because of last year's amazing performance with the Wonder Girls and Big Bang, people are really looking forward to this one. Hopefully, it will surpass Wonderbang.

Also on MBC Gayo Daejun, Park Jin Young and 2PM will have a dance battle. Do you guys remember Rain and JYP's battle last year? I'm sure this one will be even hotter than that one.

Popular Idol group SNSD's Yoona expressed her feeling about her first experience asn an MC.
On the 26th, the "KBS Entertainment Awards" ceremony took place in Yeouido at the KBS satellite public hall, where Yoona co-hosted the awards show with gagman Lee Kyung-Gyu and Lee Ji Ae.

Yoona stated "I am very thankful for all the love that I have received this year" and "I'm so nervous because I have never MCed before. I made lots of mistakes during the rehearsal and I am afraid that I will make mistakes during the live broadcast."

TVXQ attending TBS’s year-end program for the third year

TVXQ will attend Japan's TBS CDTV Premiere Live for the third year.

Through a message on their official Japanese website, TVXQ has confirmed that it will attend the year-end program on the 31st from 11:45PM to 5AM. They spent their last moments of 2007 and 2008 here as well, so it's essentially a tradition for the group.

Despite the issues that TVXQ has with SM Entertainment, their Japanese company Avex has a full schedule for them. The quintet will be attending the Japan Record Awards on the 30th and will also be attending NHK's program on the 31st, which is before the TBS program.

After School’s Raina faints during practice

After School's newest member Raina has fainted during practice after overworking herself.

Raina had just finished a performance on the 27th with her members and was taken to their practice room. That's where she fainted and was taken to the emergency room.

Pledis Entertainment expressed, "Raina fainted during practice and didn't respond to us so she was taken to the hospital. She's been overworking herself because of the year-end shows and promotions for 'Because of You.' "

She has been doing better ever since she was admitted to the hospital. The doctors said, "Her fatigue had accumulated but her health isn't in too serious of a condition."

Hopefully she'll recover in time for the year-end shows she's been practicing so hard for.

But with Baek Ji Young already fainting earlier and now Raina, has it already started?

WonderGirls: #99 of 100 Things To Watch in 2010

Group WonderGirls has been included in global advertising agency JWT (J. Walter Thompson)’s list of ‘100 Things To Watch in 2010′.

The group was included at #99 of the 100 things which JWT had listed to watch out for in the new year 2010. And the image of the girls during their performance in the States was also uploaded in the list and they were introduced as the South Korean girlgroup “With their good looks, slick packaging, infectious pop songs and trend-setting videos”.
 
The girls who had previously entered the Billboard singles chart, recently peformed on FOX ‘So You Think You Can Dance Season 6′ on 9th December, receiving good response for their music in the first year of their Americanadvance.

Meanwhile, the girls entered at #76 on the Billboard ‘Hot 100 chart’ in October, the first Korean artiste to do so in the 115 years of history since Billboard was established in 1894. The girls started making their name known through opening performance for Jonas Brothers’ concert tour earlier this year.
