Notes:

As I've mentioned briefly before (In my photo reports of Super Junior/Big Bang etc from ASF 2009.) I'm working as a photo-journalist specializing in video gaming here in Seoul. So today I was able to get a press pass from the company I work for and shot SHINee (and SNSD, whose photos I will upload tomorrow.) from press positions tonight in Suwon at the IEF opening ceremony day.

**Apologies for the weird angles and over-exposure on some of the shots. I was kind of nervous about doing this and also tired after almost 2 hours of waiting sitting on a concrete floor outside in the freezing cold.**

High/lowlights of the night included:

~ Getting gassed by the smoke machine during a Chinese ballad singer's performance.
~ Smelling like rotten eggs on the 1 hour 30 minutes subway ride home due to the fire works residue.
~ Seeing SHINee performing up close for the first time. (I only fan-cammed them at Dream Concert 2009.)
~ Seeing the lovely SNSD again - but poor Jessica's mic wasn't working!
~ Free cookies!

Korean Studies See Surge at European Universities

Hallyu, or the Korean wave, is starting to enter Europe, with more students in France, Germany and Britain interested in Korea’s economy, politics, history and language.

This emerging trend apparently stems from the improved image of Korean conglomerates such as Samsung, LG, Hyundai and Kia in Europe. Younger Europeans are also showing heightened interest in Korean pop culture.

Lee Jin-myeong, a Korean studies professor at the University of Lyon 3, said yesterday, “My Korean class had 50 students last year. This year, I had to offer two classes of 35 students each since 70 signed up.”

Also teaching at the University of Paris 7, Lee said, “Fifty-four students took the class at the University of Paris 7 but that number has jumped to 70 this year,” adding, “I had to change the classroom to a large auditorium because a 30 to 40-seat classroom was too narrow for my class on contemporary and modern Korean history.”

Daesung is Naruto?

Big Bang Daesung has been chosen at the idol group star who suits anime character Naruto the best.

Anibox did a survey from 20th till 27th October on Tooniland online on 1729 netizens asking the question “Which idol group star suits the anime character Naruto the best?”and Daesung was chosen as #1 with 533 votes.

The reason that netizens chose Daesung was that he is very energetic and likes to play and jokes around, similar to that Naruto.

Guess which other idol group members were chosen on the survey.

Taegoon Dance Cuts & Phone Call to Jaejoong on MBC Quiz to Change the World

During filming of MBC Quiz to Change the world, Taegoon was asked to make a call to Jaejoong of DBSK. The two are known to be close friends and have been photographed together hanging out recently.

Jaejoong told Taegoon, “Don’t be nervous. Act as you usually do around me!” They made everyone laugh with their humour and wit.

It is the second time Jaejoong has made a “voice cameo” on the program.

Enlisted celebrities participate in Army concert

Once actors go off to fulfill their two years of military service, it’s not often that we get to see them in the public eye until their discharge. So it’s nice to see a few of the currently enlisted entertainers together onstage for the 2009 Army Concert, which took place in Seoul on the evening of October 31.

Some of the celebrities who participated were actors Jae Hee (Three Dads One Mom), Jo In-sung (Frozen Flower), Lee Dong-wook (Partner), Kim Jae-won (Hwang Jini), and Ohn Joo-wan (Chosun Police). On the kpop side, there were singer-actors Yang Dong-geun (I Am Sam), Lee Jung (Hometown of Legends), and Kim Jung-hoon (Goong), as well as singers Sung Shi-kyung, Tony An.

Despite rainy weather, there were approximately 7,000 people in the audience for the outdoor concert. Jo In-sung and army broadcast MC Sohn Eun-ah acted as hosts for the event.

Gender Equality - Korea's Global Ranking Slides Due to Widening Gap

The nation has a long way to go to narrow the widening gender gap. On Tuesday, the Switzerland-based World Economic Forum ranked South Korea 115th in its gender equality list of 134 countries. The forum gave Korea 0.615 in the gender equality index, which is far lower than that of most Asian nations, not to mention top-ranking Western states.

Iceland won 0.827 points, taking the world's top place. Among the leading groups were Finland, Norway, Sweden, South Africa and Lesotho. The Philippines was listed 9th, emerging as the Asian leader. The United States took 31st place, while China ranked 60th and Japan 75th.

Stockbrokers cover/parody 2PM on Star King

On SBS Star King aired on 31st October, a group of pretty-faced stockbrokers called themselves 6PM and did a parody of 2PM’s ‘I Hate You’ on the show.

All 6 members were good looking and tall, and 6PM instantly won over the hearts of the female guest appearances on the show.

While 6PM tried to entertain with their parody, netizens and fans don’t seem to welcome the idea of this group.

Yoon Kyesang: "SNSD's Taeyeon was my energy during my military service~"

On the KBS 2TV's program, , Yoon Kyesang made an appearance in the "Special Autumn Man" episode and revealed his feelings towards SNSD's Taeyeon. Participating in a talk show after a long time, Yoon Kyesang revealed his ideal type in the corner 'Ideal Type World Cup'.

When SNSD's Taeyeon came up as a candidate, he revealed, "During my military service, I really liked SNSD. Between the members, I liked Taeyeon the most who I thought was pretty and could sing well." Plus, "I also listen to Taeyeon's radio."

The real ideal type of Yoon Kyesang, who openly talked about being a SNSD's Taeyeon fan, can be seen on the next broadcasting of KBS 2TV's , next October, 31th, Saturday, 11:20PM.
