KyuHyun’s Solo Performance at Yoo YoungSuk’s 20th Anniversary Album Showcase

Super Junior's group member Kyuhyun performed on stage for the first time as a solo artist, and not as a Super Junior member, showing off his impressive skills.

On June 16, at 8 PM, in Seoul's Hongdae Live Hall ㅡ Yoo Youngsuk, who is known as a singer and composer, held a showcase to celebrate the oncoming release of his anniversary album. On that night's showcase, Super Junior's Kyuhyun sang Yoo Youngsuk's hit song "7 Years' Love", which is also featured on the album.

Kyuhyun, who is also active in the vocal line of Super Junior's sub-unit K.R.Y., showed an outstanding performance while singing "7 Years' Love". He matched the skills of prominent talents such as Cho Kyuchan, Kim Yeonwoo, Park Giyoung, etc. with ease, and didn't let them outshine him.

After the stage ended, Kyuhyun answered Yoo Youngsuk's questions. "It wasn't my first time alone on stage," he said uneasily "I was so nervous I couldn't see ahead of me". Yoo Youngsuk praised him and said "Now you can even rely on yourself (become independent)", but Kyuhyun touched his head and laughed, "No. I'm not capable of doing that."

New idol star drama in the works

Hmmm. With the idol-group trend on the rise lately, and a new idol group popping up seemingly every month, SBS is planning a television series all about them. (No, the above-pictured stars aren’t (necessarily) in it.)

In contrast to all those variety shows featuring pre-existing idol stars (which are more like reality shows), this one is a drama about a fictional group — and it’s written by the scriptwriting duo the Hong sisters (Hong Mi-ran, Hong Jung-eun), who brought us Delightful Girl Chun-hyang, My Girl, Fantasy Couple, and Hong Gil Dong. (As far as drama scriptwriters go, they’re among the more famous.)

The drama will be called You’re Beautiful [미남이시네요] and will look at the birth of and behind-the-scenes life of an idol group as the members encounter various developments, setbacks, and loves. In that sense, it’s sorta like what the 2006 MBC series Over the Rainbow did — which, ironically, was written by the other group of Hong sisters (Hong Jin-ah, Hong Ja-ram). Only, hopefully this drama will showcase the Hong sisters’ trademark quirky characters and zippy comedy (Over the Rainbow was rather slow and painful, wasn’t it?).

The drama has not yet begun casting and is being planned to broadcast sometime this fall on SBS.

So now the question is: Will it star any actual idol stars?

Yoona is not likely to join MBC Sunday Show immediately.

SNSD became MCs of Horror Movie Factory and are currently working hard to be a Horror Queen. However Yoona couldn't join them due to Cinderella Man, and only 8 members are participating now.

Now that Yoona finished shooting Cinderella Man, can she join the members? People are curious if she's joining Sunday Show since HMF is ending and new segment will begin soon. Unfortunately it's impossible for Yoona to join Sunday Show right now.

A representative of SM Entertainment says, "Although Yoona wants to join the members, she has to concentrate on recording her parts which was delayed."

Comedian Caught Stealing Mercedes

Comedian Kwak Han-goo


Popular comedian Kwak Han-goo was apprehended on suspicions of stealing a Mercedes-Benz, police said Tuesday. An arrest warrant was applied for him.

According to Gwanak Police Station in Seoul, the 27-year-old stole the key from a car that was parked in a repair shop in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, last Wednesday. At that time, the car remained unlocked with the key in the ignition, police said. The next day, he reportedly visited the car repair shop again and drove away with the car.

He was caught at a police checkpoint in Seoul five days after the incident.

A police officer quoted Kwak as saying, "I was supposed to return the car to its owner soon."

Kwak has enjoyed popularity after appearing in the KBS TV program "Gag Concert".

The program's director cancelled the shooting schedule for Kwak's segment in the program. His private blog was bombarded with messages denouncing his wrongdoing.

'Yonsama Lunchbox' on Sale in Japan

Two of the largest convenience store chains in Japan said Tuesday they will be selling special lunchbox sets of Korean food produced by "hallyu (Korean wave)" star Bae Yong-joon, better known as Yonsama in Tokyo, next month, Yonhap News reported Tuesday.

Digital Adventure and 7-Eleven said they will be putting the lunchboxes, dubbed "Gosire Bento," on the shelves for three days from April 24, store representatives said. The sets will be sold through pre-orders collected from June 26 through the Internet and store chains.

The lunchbox sets are the third of their kind to be produced by the South Korean actor who gained explosive popularity in the Land of the Rising Sun after playing the hero in the local TV series "Winter Sonata." Previous lunchboxes, stocked from June to Christmas last year in Japan, sold over 160,000 sets and were especially popular among middle-aged female Yonsama fans.

The latest lunchbox will be sold at 2,500 yen (about $26) _ the highest price that any lunch set has been sold for in Japan. It features 16 different dishes from Korea's ancient Goguryeo Dynasty, including bulgogi and kimchi.

Lee Hong-gi, member of the pop group FT Island, goes on a date with one of his fans in the program "Mnet Scandal."

An array of programs by cable channels are presenting programs that beckon viewers to stand in front of the camera themselves.

Cable music channel Mnet leads these programs, with a total of three programs open for viewers to join in and become a part of them. One of the most anticipated is "Superstar K," which is the Korean version of the United States' hit program "American Idol." With a winning prize of more than 100 million won and the chance to make a debut this coming fall backed by music mogul Mnet, more than 5,000 viewers applied on the first day of admissions.

"There were plenty of similar music programs that held auditions for aspiring singers but the problem with most of them was the lack of support and interest given to the winners after the program. Another important feature we focused on is that literally anyone can participate and try out to become the next top singer of Korea," the makers of "Superstar K" said through a statement.

Top Singers Get Together for Songwriter Yoo’s Album

Singer songwriter Yoo Young-suk smiles at the showcase of his new album "Star Words" Tuesday near Hongdae. Numerous singers came together for Yoo's album, which will be released next month.

Singer-songwriter Yoo Young-suk has been a prolific musician for the past 20 years, making some of the best known songs for fellow singers and working on various projects as a music director and producer. He recently released his new album "Star Words" to celebrate the 20th anniversary since his debut. This time, his friends backed him up.

"I have released many albums throughout my career, but this is the first time I've held a showcase. I'm so proud and happy!" he said with a big smile at the event, staged at Sang Sang Madang near Hongdae, northern Seoul.

The album consists of some of Yoo's best works, but sung by some of the most popular singers here including Kyu-hyun from Super Junior, Kim Gun-mo, Hong Gyung-min and Winterplay.

Close aides of Kim Jong-un, the 26-year-old third son and heir apparent of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, last week attempted to assassinate the leader's first son Jong-nam, KBS reported Monday citing Chinese government sources.

Aides to Kim Jong-un planned to assassinate Jong-nam, who lives in Macau, after first eliminating his close aides in North Korea. The sources said, "It seems they tried to assassinate Kim Jong-nam without telling Kim Jong-il."

Last ‘HaHaHa’ video featuring So Nyeo Shi Dae revealed

A 2nd video to So Nyeo Shi Dae’s ‘HaHaHa campaign’ video has been revealed on the official website (www.hahaha4u.co.kr) on 15th June.

As the video is the last of the campaign video featuring So Nyeo Shi Dae, it has attracted more than 10 million views to it. This is the 5th video after Jang Geun Seok, Kim Soo Ro and Park Bo Young versions.

The campaign which started previously in April aims to cheer the Korean citizens amidst the bad times through encouraging videos and messages.

Members MinJung, GaJin, JiEun from 13-member female group i-13 will comeback as a girlgroup this autumn.

Their company said on the 17th, “If fast enough, they will debut as a new girl group coming August-September. They had been training since end of last year till beginning of this year.”

i-13 debuted in 2005 with the song ‘One More Time’ from their debut album ‘One More Time’. The members ranged from in their teens to twenties, and were the hot topic as a new 13-member girl group. But response to their promotions were not as good as expected.

Their company said, “MinJung, JiEun and GaIn will form a 4-member girl group together with another girl. It has been a long time since they have performed on stage, do look out for their comeback.”

Meanwhile there are no plans for comeback for the rest of i-13 members.

Singer cum actor Lee Seung Gi will comeback as singer with a new song.

Currently filming for drama ‘Brilliant Inheritance’, he will release a digital single ‘Will you marry me’ on 18th June. He last released a digital single ‘Go on a vacation’ last May.

This new song is written by hit song make Kim Do Hoon who also did Lee Seung Gi’s other hits like ‘Words hard to say’, ‘Ip MoYang’. Lee Seung G will also comeback with a new look.

Lee Seung Gi’s representative said recently, “He did the recording in the midst of his busy schedule doing filming. This is fan service for fans who have been waiting for his official album release.”

Lee Seung Gi is also involved in the filming for KBS variety show ‘2 Days 1 Night’.

SHINee high fives fans; I get jealous

As soon as they came back, SHINee's title track "Juliette" won 1st place on KBS Music Bank. Their 2nd mini album "Romeo" has been ranked 1 for 3 consecutive weeks on the Hanter Chart's Hot Tracks. They have been receiving lots of love.

On the 17th, SHINee attened the "High Touch" event in order to encourage their fans. During this time, SHINee high fived one-on-one with 2000 fans. They also introduced their 2nd mini album "Romeo" and thanked the fans for their love.

During the "High Touch" event, fans sang along with "Juliette" which was on repeat. This made the scene much more warmer. There were rumors going around that there were 10 thrilled female fans that cried after being able to high-five SHINee.

Although SHINee said they "high fived so many fans that their palms stung, but we were happy to spend this special time so closely with the fans. We will become a harder working SHINee"

On another note, SHINee is scheduled to present a powerful performance with their title track "Juliette" on Music Bank (19th) and Music Core (20th)

Why Is He Famous?

The people of Germany love them some David Hasselhoff and the people of South Korea love their Rain -- the entertainer, that is. The South Korean King of Pop is huge in his native country and across Asia. In keeping with pop star tradition, Rain is also an award-winning actor. He makes all of it look easy and the rest of the wannabes look even worse than usual. Oh, and Megan Fox says she wants to get with him, referring to him as the Korean Justin Timberlake. We're jealous.
