'Lady Vengeance' in Top 100 Films
2009-11-08 06:17 pm
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance directed and produced by Park Chan-Wookin 2005 has been listed in the 100 best films for the decade by The Times published in Britain. This is the only Korean film ranked at the 97th on the top 100.
The British daily has drawn up the list with those selected among the movies screened during the 21st century (2000-2009).
The newspaper explained the film: The third of Park Chan-wook’s fervid, savage revenge trilogy, Lady Vengeance ends with a somber acknowledgment of the futility of revenge. But not before buckets of blood have been spilled. Actress Lee Young-ae, 38, who has recently been spotlighted by her marriage with a Korean-American businessman last August, starred the lady.
The 98th placer is “Crash”(2004) directed by Paul Haggis, followed by “Battle Royale” (2000). The Devil Wears Prada directed by David Frankel in 2006 ranked the 100th and last of the list.
On the other hand, the top post has been taken by “Hidden” produced Michael Heneke in 2005.
The second place has been shared by The Bourne Supremacy/The Bourne Ultimatum directed by Paul Greengrass in 2004 and 2007, respectively.
No Country for Old Men by Joel Coen a! nd Than Coen in 2007 has taken the third place and Slumdog Millionaire by Danny Boyle in 2008 came sixth.
The other major movies on the list are eighth placer Casino Royale by Martin Campbell in 2008, the Lives of Others(12th) by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck in 2006, 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days (14th) by Cristian Mungiu in 2007 and Minority Report (26th) by Steven Spielberg.

No Country For Old Men
Date: 2009-11-09 02:33 am (UTC)Freaking intense. INTENSE. I liked it just as much as the book save for some elements at the end which were more total in the book.

Date: 2009-11-09 02:42 am (UTC)Because not all films have to be dark/angst/tell some terrible but powerful story to be a great film?
The Devil Wears Prada offers everything a good comedy should without all the disguising aspect many of seem to offering now a days not to mention great acting by all players involved.
It also ranked 100, so not a big deal, no?

Date: 2009-11-09 02:59 am (UTC)It achieved high marks because of it's directing, but for people who just went to watch it there's no level of understanding the deeper message.
I didn't like it when I watched it, but I wrote an essay on the book for English and it became more and more incredible, I think.
Anyways, that's why I don't think you'd get stoned lol. Just a strange movie.
