On a popular Korean online community called Pann, netizens have compiled pictures of idols that allegedly look “foreign” and “exotic”

With so many visual idols debuting each year, netizens have begun scrutinizing all the popular idols to see what makes each of them unique. In this case? They’re exotic:

Same, I'm mixed and according to society I don't look like anything at all. One of my lecturers was going through our name list (it had our photos) and she loudly asked if I was mixed because ~I looked exotic~ and I just wanted to bury myself alive.

this is... interesting. being mixed myself, i know firsthand that there isn't any one way to look a certain ethnicity, but i admit that a few of the people on this list do look like they might possibly have some non-korean ancestry.

that being said, and as much as i would love for there to be more mixed idols out there, speculation can quickly become messy. i'm reminded of something that the mixed members of chocolat said a long time ago, something along the lines of there being many idols (other than them) who actually are mixed but who keep it on the downlow for fear of judgment.

also, some "foreign" or "exotic" (ugh fuck those words though seriously) looking idols may very well have some non-korean ancestry, but with a painful history of how it came to be, so they don't want to go into it.

i'm all about mixed people being proud of what makes them who they are, as i am in my case, but at the same time, i respect that not all mixed people might feel that way about themselves, and i wouldn't want to "out" somebody who wants to keep that aspect of themselves private.

I'm looking at their list and I'm failing at see what they're talking about.

I'm white, spanish and live on the mediterranean shore and it happened to me a lot of times people who didn't believe I'm spanish, so much with tourists (my city has a lot of tourism) as with people from here. Even a blonde, blue eyed italian guy said it...
It happened even when there was other people around me who were even more blonde and with lighter eye colour, but they say is something specific about me and at the same time they don't know to tell me what it is.
More that once when I was young tourists would start talking to me in english and I didn't get what was happening lol.
Now I remember that when my sister lived in germany a lot of turkish people started to talk to her in turkish because they thought she was too.

LOL I'm spanish too and everytime I travel people guess me as everything but spanish (french, italian, russian, finnish). Idgi.
I guess it's because they have this idea of mediterranean people being dark skinned and dark haired and I'm pretty pale with green eyes and light brown hair? idk.

Yes different but they all look Korean to me. If i walked into kpop yesterday I would question but we all know kpop is not the place to check for if some one "looks" Korean with all the plastic surgery.
