lo and behold: gaon has released their cummulative report for the chart's best selling artists physically, digitally, overall, ect. for the first half of the year. (apparently the timeline of everything included runs from january 1st to sometime last week.) a post earlier this week was made on hanteo's round up of physical sales solely for the first half of the year.

top artists

the spie chart is a bit confusing because of the color key virtually looking the same for... every... single person on the list. the only confirmed percentages by the article were exo with the 37.7% and big bang with the 27.5 but i'm figured that you can follow the chart from the 7.0% to the last 2.3% with those on the below list that aren't exo or big bang.

01. exo
02. big bang
03. bangtan boys
04. shinee
05. yonghwa (cnblue)
06. d&e
07. vixx
08. xia (jyj)
09. jonghyun (shinee)
10. sunggyu (infinite)
11. others

people are also a big confused about what it indicates: it's for the best selling artists overall for the first half of the year but some are saying it's for album sales (including the sales of albums released before 2015 that chart) and others are saying it's for album sales from the first half of the year along with digital sales..., who knows. it's something, regardless.

you can find more charts / round ups at the sourced below but it's mostly random industry / company related rankings.

source: gaon

because it may be asked, the difference in how hanteo and gaon calculate their charts is as follows: hanteo only counts sales from retailers that are "hanteo" certified (along with albums bought on sites like yesasia and dvdheaven) which only equals to about 85% of the sales in south korea, while gaon counts virtually ever sale under the moon / shipments to distributors. (this also counts sales on sites like yesasia, ect.) gaon has album sales reported to them via the korean music content industry association while hanteo doesn't, ect.

Yup, especially when it comes to actual downloads miss A is miles ahead of exo (the last time I checked they were ridiculously close to hit 1M).

Yeah, according to this: http://kpopsales.blogspot.com.es/2015/06/gaon-first-8-weeks-download-chart.html Miss A has 300k more downloads than EXO. This is for the first 8 weeks but afaik CMB still haven't reached Miss A's sales so it's very confusing tbh.

they are charting each and every year during spring bc of cherry blossom ending. their vocalist is living off royalties atm

I don't really understand digital charts? According to this: http://kpopsales.blogspot.com.es/2015/06/gaon-first-8-weeks-download-chart.html Red Velvet's ICC and EXO's CMB sold similarly the first 8 weeks (a bit over 500k) and Miss A is currently #1 with 800k downloads, but EXO is above Miss A, and Red Velvet is not even in the list? o_o

maybe discrepancies might be due to streaming being lumped in with downloads?

Op is in wrong, Gaon counts shipments (how many albums stores order from the distributors like Mnet, KT Music, and Loen), and not actual sales what come to physical albums. Sometimes stores order too many albums and end up returning unsold albums after few months which can be seen at the end of the year chart as a smaller number than Gaonchart originally may have reported.

People nowadays call everything that don't debut at #1 on melon and/or don't stay top 3-5 for several weeks a flop. It's ridiculous.

well, I think I've learned to not really believe in Korean charts / awards anymore (there's no way exo sold more than bigbang digitally, or is it possible?)
So I'm happy that my biases are up there (D&E), but it doesnt prove anything to me..

I don't think anyone understand how Gaon counts their overall digital chart nowadays as how can exo's song be above songs that have both more streams and downloads.

I am not even hating on exo but considering that multiple artists and groups have both higher digital sales and streams it just does not add up.

I only rely on instiz and hanteo everything else is skewed

Dang, Puss did ridiculously well. It apparently has hit so many of Spotify's national "viral" lists that it made it on to the global one as well. I don't quite get why it has that level of appeal, but it is an impressive showing for a k-hiphop track.

Cherry Blossom Ending will clearly never die.

tbh I was expecting them to be here as well. They sold almost 500k in the first 8 weeks and probably almost 600k by now. This is a weird ass list anyway.
