Idol Outfits: How they're made and what becomes of them after promotions

A visual director draws out the outfit concepts which is then passed over to stylists to add details on fabric and other accessories before finally being created either by the stylist themselves or a professional responsible for producing outfits for singers.

After use, outfits are stored in the company's closet. Idols do not reuse the outfits. If the outfits are needed for concerts or other fan events after promotions end, they are produced all over again for wear. SM Ent said, "We rarely discard the outfits and either keep them to open an exhibit or put them up for charity auctions."

10. [+18, -0] I'm actually curious about the stage setups. They have a different setup for every idol stage based on their song style... I don't think the agency prepares all of the stage props. Do they throw them all away too after one use?

i know that jype keeps all of miss a's outfits and the girls often re-use them in events and concerts, in fact they do something i reslly like, they often mix around things of different concepts together.

mhmmm, i have so many favorite concepts, oddly enough they mostly come from after school. the latest concept i was crazy about was OC's, cattalena's concept gave me costume orgarsm.

Worst:
- B1A4's styling has always been tragic, as lovingly compiled here (http://omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com/10354721.html). Though it's improved with Lonely.
- As mentioned, Topp Dogg's Arario chick outfits. Or every outfit they've had.

Best:

- Nine Muses' Dolls styling
- Sistar's sailor outfits during Loving U
- Mr.Mr's styling for Highway and Do You Feel Me

As for repeating outfits, B1A4's stylists do it quite often but they usually just match the same jacket with different tops/pants. I like that they re-wear their stuff tbh.

Vixx reuses their outfits and even still wears their outfits from previous era's in events or concerts or fanmeets.
I doubt jelpi has the money to just use outfits once.

I like a lot of groups. Usually I like that SNSD can go both ways (super costume-y (OH) or street wear (Gee)).

F(x) is probably my fave. Sometimes their stylist is high, but usually the individual pieces are pretty cool. And I love that there b-sides (like Jet) usually have matching outfits.

OC's Catallena M/V outfits were so good! Aside from the bell bottoms, I would wear everything!

I was just wondering about the stage props the other day. Some of them are so song-specific they'd be hard to use again, but a lot of them also look too expensive to destroy.

I think on a pretty old episode of Running Man they went to the SBS studios and they went into the prop storage room so they definitely keep the stage props but idk if they repurpose them for other groups or just keep it in storage.

Back when Woollim CEO had a twitter he posted how every music show performance during Infinite's BTD era had a different outfit. They spent so much money on that concept and comeback and it was so upsetting how no recognition came out of it. :( After that they has to be so stingy and re-use e v e r y t h i n g.

Crying at all the wasted clothes Exo must go throw. Companies would save so much money if they reused outfits. Especially since they most are custom made. This also means there is no excuse for ill-fitted outfits on ANYONE

If I remember correctly GD's smashed guitars were all signed and auctioned off so its not completely useless. They also do auctions at least once a year as a company and Dara did her own separately last year i believe...then proceeds were donated.

As for sets, YG pays for their own sets in Inki while Inki staffs provides the labor? At least that's what I read way back. idk how it goes with the other companies tho. Props, and especially sets are easily recycled tbh..
