Will Epik High be disbanding soon?

On February 16’s broadcast of KBS’ Superman is Back, the Epik High members gathered at the studio to record their upcoming album tracks.

Tablo commented that when he’s with his daughter Haru, he becomes unusually bright, but when he’s in the recording studio, everything becomes dark and serious. Tukutz also confirmed that he’s the same way when he’s with his baby son.

Tablo mentioned that Psy told Tablo that in order to make good music, he needs to live as if he has nothing to lose, but now Tablo has a family that he’s becoming more afraid to make the kind of music he would like.

He jokingly said, “Let’s do this. When Mithra becomes a dad, let’s disband.”
Tukutz then added to much laughter, “At the moment when Mithra’s baby wails into the world, Epik High is over.”

Meanwhile, Tablo and Tukutz both agreed that Mithra as a single man is the most annoying.

I'm so happy Tablo is happy but Fever's End was amazing so if he needs to be a little sad to turn out masterpieces like that, please spend some time in the studio.

But seriously, Epik High's aesthetic has always been dark and a bit noir. When they leaned towards a more happier vibe in 99 everyone cried foul, and it was definitely an image that would take some getting used to.
I think even if they were to disband as Epik High, they would still remain as three good friends who make music. But I also believe it's not happening anytime soon.

Edit: The little bit that was heard during Superman returns though sounds really good though, like classic Epik High.

lmao i liked some of their older ~happier~ songs but 99 didn't really do anything for me except for a few songs. but since they wanted a more happy sound after all the shit they went through, i'm just like.. w/e

As a majority I didn't like 99 either, but I still bought it because I just have to buy everything Epik High, and it was their first release together after all the drama. It really upset me though how people were trying to come up with all these reasons as to why the sound changed (the main culprit being YG), when Tablo stated himself that he had wanted to release a happier sound in promise to his father.

the thing i subjected to the most about 99 was the fact that tukutz was so absent from it, he was only in one track iirc (which ended up being the best track). and for that i do blame yg, as the rest of the producers were their own and bom sucked in her track (and epik high has worked with many talented female singers, they could have chosen anyone but i don't believe it for a second that they wanted bom).

ia. Tbh some pretentious people in this fandom ( as in nearly every other khiphop fandom) annoy the shit of me. Until day, Tablo himself keep saying that the old sound was his unhappy self, and people evolves, it is critical and unavoidable when you are in charge of your music . I'm all for them to found a balance between their younger and daring selves and their new mature and comodate life. For me sound wise 99 wasn't bad, it needed more Tukutz and also no Bom in it but other than that I think my problem with the album was more in the lyrical sense. I don't think EH need to be unhappy for a good lyric, they just need motivation and '99' was good experimenting with the sound but kind of lyrically uninspired, you can poetically write about positive things that matter. I mean Fly still the song that made them commercially popular.

I appreciate this comment a lot. I haven't been catching up with Korean music for a while, but when I heard Epik High was coming out with a new album, I had to listen. I have to admit, I was one of the people who cried foul; it was too lighthearted for me when I wanted the dark, deeply poetic music I was used to from them. I thought I was the only one who was upset at the change in aesthetic because I hadn't heard anyone else criticize the same way I had. In the beginning, I actually went so far as resent YG a little for making Epik High into something it wasn't. But then I heard about Tablo creating happier sounds for his father, and I calmed down lol.

I do hope they bring back some of that old sound again.

I actually quite liked 99 for its feel-good vibe once I put my preconceptions/expectations away, since it clearly differed from their previous releases. I especially like 'Kill this Love' and 'Wrong'.

They seem like a group that will never formally disband. They'll do their own thing and the epil high mihht be put on hiatus, but they'll probably get back together to make new music when they feel like it.

I think since Epik High are more of a group of friends that do music together they are one of those group that more than disband, they would just stop doing music together until they do again. Anyway my body is ready for new music from them.
