FT Island, is it necessary to graduate from high school?

5 member band, FT Island, expresses their views on whether idols should give up their studies for career.

In a recent interview with Money Today Star News, FT Island shared with us how they handle both their studies and career.

Members, Choi Jonghoon and Lee Hongki are currently undergraduates while Choi Minhwan, Song Seunghyun and Lee Jaejin are still high school students. We see a clear difference in their way of thinking.

Current undergraduates, Choi Jonghoon and Lee Hongki gave their stand that, “It is necessary to graduate from high school.”

Lee Hongki expressed that, “It’ll be good if the school can help their students to realize their dreams. It’s not about instilling knowledge from the course books, it’s about helping each and every individual to realize their dreams through various forms of education.”

However, members who are still in high school, Song Seunghyun, Choi Minhwan and Lee Jaejin expressed that, “We support the idea of idols giving up their studies.”

Choi Minhwan added on, “In the entertainment industry, we get to learn things that we can’t learn in school. So I think it will be a better choice. It’ll be tiring to handle both studies and career at the same time because we will want to do our best in everything.”

Lee Jaejin said, “Things that we learn in high school are not being used practically. However, to realize your dream, you will still have to continue to do self-study.”

FT Island’s latest album “Cross & Change” is out in stores and they are currently promoting the title song “Barae (I Hope)”.

obviously the three still in high school will say it's better to give it up BECAUSE they're in high school. doesn't everyone want to leave high school like, asap? nonetheless, this post makes me :( you could at least finish high school and then enroll in college later or something. :|

lol this seems like they're condoning people dropping out of high school... even if they specified "idols" they're still saying that it's ok to not finish high school. Realistically, yeah, a lot of the stuff you learn in high school isn't used in daily life, but it'll be hard to get anywhere without a hs diploma. I dunno, maybe it's different for Korea, but I can't help but be bothered by this weird message idols are sending to their fans about education.

Maybe this just goes to show that Idols are debuting waaaay too early these days. :-/

I think finishing high school is important too cause if entertainment biz doesn't work out in the end, they'll have something too fall back on. I know high school couldn't get you far but at least it's something and it's easier to get into college if they finished their high school.

i don't think they're exactly saying it's okay to give up one's studies, just that it's okay to give up studying in high school. like jaejin said, it's not okay to neglect one's studies. besides don't they have some sort of qualifying exam, like some g.e.d. that will get them the equivalent of a high school diploma?

i know some other idools and singers have done it before them, and even went on to continue further studies in uni/college.

trust me in todays world high school education should be a given
these days most companies or whatever aren't accepting people with a bachelors hell even a masters isn't getting some people anywhere

my parents say this all the time with athletes, singers, actors you need something to fall back on no matter who you are it can be gone in the blink of an eye in the words of my dad about young athletes going straight into the draft "should have kept your ass in school and learn something (like maturity)"

Ok read it, companies should want their employees to better themselves.

I still in high school and sometimes have thoughts how about idols who still in high school do their studies

Even if you don't want to further your education after HS, it's important for idols to finish high school.
