2013 Korean Music Awards noms are out

The nominees for the 10th annua Korean Music Awards ere released. Unlike majority of other major music awards in Korea, Korean Music Awards do not take sales into consideration, and the winners (excluding the Netizen’s Choice Award) are determined by a panel of music critics and industry experts, similar to the Grammy’s in the USA. The full list of nominees are below. The ceremony will take place on February 28.

critics really didn't like nell's album and a lot of people (including nell fans) thought it wasn't as good as their other albums too.
personally I think it was good but not good enough to make top 5 on these award categories tbh

I always wonder why this can't be turned into huge event like Grammy? (I hate it how both MAMA and GDA try to claim that they are Korea's Grammy awards) I mean they still nominate some popular stars in addition to indie musicians, so with a mix of them, and some specifically invited to perform (non-nominated) famous non-idol singers/bands like Baek Ji-Young, Leessang, etc. they could still make a show with high TV ratings and at the same time give much needed visibility for indie artists.

I've given these awards praise before, because they don't seem caught up in defining artistry on superficial grounds, they mix idols with other artists, and they ALWAYS nominate f(x), which is sweet,

but last year and this year I've started noticing they have a real problem with gender equality. There have been so many good female singer/songwriter albums the past two years that have not even received a nomination here, and some of the male-fronted alternative rock they do nominate is definitely not as good or unique.

The Electric Eels are just the best, their album was one my favourites of last year.

I can understand why Nell isn't here, I mean their album was alittle uneven if you compare it to 3rd Line Butterfly. But why no love for Galaxy Express, Yellow Monsters, JRabbit or Yoon Young Bae???

Critics really love F(x), they were really high on most year end charts last year.

I need to get back up on my K-indie and K-rock. I haven't been paying enough attention lately.

My one gripe about this is just that personally, I don't like it when an artist is nominated more than once for the same category. Like f(x) twice for Best Dance & Electronic or Busker Busker twice for Pop Song of the year. I'd rather just have one representative song for an artist and then see another artist that deserves commendation.

Yay f(x)! Electric Shock was a great album and a great song. I'm glad they're receiving recognition for it. It's their song and I honestly believe that while they didn't write it, they have ownership of the song.

Having input on songs doesn't only happen in the creation process, it can also be seen in the performance aspect.
