PSY's controversial performance surfaces

A partial video of singer Psy's controversial anti-American performance has surfaced, showing the "Gangnam Style" superstar destroying a mock military tank during a South Korean protest concert against the United States military.

On Friday, YouTube sensation Psy, otherwise known as Park Jae-Sang, made headlines when it was revealed that the "Gangnam Style" star sanglyrics from South Korean rock band N.E.X.T.'s song "Dear American", including: "Kill those f---ing Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives" and "Kill them all slowly and painfully."

The contentious Anti-American lyrics and photos from a 2004 protest concert were first posted on CNN's iReport in October. CNN reported that anti-American sentiment flared in the country after the brutal killing of a South Korean hostage by Iraqi insurgents in June that year. Earlier, in 2002, anger ignited when two South Korean schoolgirls were accidentally struck and killed by a U.S. military vehicle.

A video from Psy's anti-American performance has now surfaced online. In the choppy video, Psy smashes a mock military tank. He was protesting the death of the two Korean schoolgirls, according to Mediaite, and rapped anti-American lyrics.

Psy issued an apology for the lyrics, saying, "While I’m grateful for the freedom to express one’s self I’ve learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted. I will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused anyone by those words.”

Despite his anti-American past now surfacing, Psy is still confirmed to perform at "Christmas in Washington" on Dec. 21, TNT confirmed to NBC News. President Barack Obama and his family will be in attendance.

Psy topped Justin Bieber to have the most-watched YouTube video of all time for his "Gangnam Style" visuals, which became a viral hit in the U.S. and around the world in 2012. The Associated Press calculated that he will rake in nearly $8 million this year.

For once an artist is making a proper apology (whether one thinks he had to apologize or not, this is a well worded apology and he actually sounds sincere) yet he's getting more hate than any rapper making song about rape, killing cops and drug... or at least those articles make it sounds like it (I don't know how this is perceived in the US)

but seriously, while I think the lyrics are, kinda disgusting, you really have to research what was happening in South Korea at that time. How would America feel if a foreign military came into their country to 'help protect them' and killed two school girls and were then found not guilty of the crime, America would be out for blood (unless it was a POC that was killed ofc).
Also PSY, in my opinion, gave a good apology. I mean I know America is used to the 'I didn't MEAN to offend!!!!!!111!!' apology, but PSY sounded sincere in his.

I understand why Psy was protesting with the rest of SK, but this is still not a good look. I thought his apology was sincere, and a good start, but it won't be enough to erase what he did. Honestly consider how you would feel as a soldier who could die any day getting excited over this artist who even comes to give you a special concert, and then later reading the lyrics to that song? How betrayed and angry you would feel.

It's like opening your house to a guest and being happy they're there, but when they leave you discover a youtube video of them saying racial slurs. Sure at the time they were angry because some POC wronged them or their family in some senseless murder, but wouldn't you still be upset that they had that darkness in them to begin with? That they even had that much anger/hatred in their hearts that they could generalize to a whole race of people they had never even met before?

It'd be one thing if it was just a song aimed specifically at the soldiers involved in the incident, but because all Americans were brought into it, it's alot more horrifying.Everyone has the right to express themselves. But as he said in his apology, you can only go so far with it. :/ Good luck to him.
