I'm just waiting for them to resurrect Michael Jackson to dance Gangnam style cause that's pretty much the only place left to go. Every time I say there's no way Psy can top the last thing he goes one further.
love the perfff but what is with the sound? i wanted to be able to hear him sing. it sounded like they were trying to drown him out with the background music
That is the most excited I have seen the audience at an AMAs like... Ever. Hell, that's right up there with the audiences at, like. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame jam sessions.
Which is, I think, the most compelling argument for the Gangnam Style phenomenon's ability to shift perceptions of Korean-language music in the English-language markets. Musicians and performers love the song, and Psy as a performer, and it's not like Gangnam Style is that far outside of the norm for K-Pop in general.
It's a really great song, but it's a great song that definitely has antecedents and close cousins when it comes to the style of music and the quality of performance, which I think is why it will have a lasting effect on how Korean pop music is perceived in the English language music market. Really well crafted pop music is a ready export, especially when its promotional tools (music videos and live stages) are eye-catching and fun. Korean labels are doing a better job of managing those aspects of the business than pretty much anyone else right now, and I think it wouldn't take much for everything to get really, really big really really fast.
Also, that was fucking awesome. Like, awe-inspiringly fun.
