Fans left out of pocket and frustrated as Psy performs one song in his only Australian club appearance.
 get those coins tho oppa!

It was billed as the only nightclub appearance by global music hit Psy. In the end it amounted to fans paying up to $3000 to hear one song.

Marquee promoted a red carpet appearance from Psy, followed by a live performance by the South Korean phenomenon designed to cap off the three-day visit that saw him sweep into Sydney on Tuesday to do press interviews and appearances on X Factor and Sunrise.

Tickets started at $130 and the main attraction wasn't due on stage until midnight - on a school night - so this was clearly a concert for dedicated fans.

2UE's Entertainment Rerporter Alice Workman was in attendance and reported that there were "people in booths who paid more than $3000 for table service to hear one song."

The audience, which according to Workman ranged from Korean pop (K-Pop) fans to accountants, was eager to see the South Korean perform. "There was a mixed crowd really excited to hear this one song."

Psy duly took to the stage at 12.15am and delivered his smash hit Gangnam Style to the enthusiastic audience.

"He did the song," Workman reported on air this morning, with Psy receiving "general approval from the crowd.

"Then he spoke a little about how he’s very happy to be in Sydney he’s had a great time, this is the last thing before he went home. And then he left."

Workman reported that though some were really happy just to have seen Psy, "there was general disappointment among the room."

I understand some people there were already kpop fans, but I don't think he was there to represent this, he was there as an one hit wonder. What did you expect him to sing?

Not PSY's fault peeps were expecting more than what probably the club x PSY agreed on~

The poster was pretty much clear on that single performance tbh

Why would even dedicated Psy fans pay $3000+? >.>;; If you're shelling out that much, wouldn't it be cheaper to fly to another country (SK even) where he's putting on a real concert?

Why would they even pay $3000 for a show? You can fly to Korea and back and have full vacation plus a whole concert (of anyone) with that kind of money.

TBQH this is just BS. The writer of this report is overhyping her article because who is stupid enough to pay 3000 dollars? Won't believe this. The use of exaggeration is just obvious. hmp

It was pretty cear that it was just a club appearance with one song performed from poster etc. The people who paid that $3,000 weren't paying that much because PSY, but they were paying that to get some VIP table with their own server and booze all night long for like 10 people or so.

Ah, that makes sense... I remember reading someone's account of going clubbing in miami during spring break and getting a table because they didn't want to fight for standing space all night long, and then being all "great, now the whole club knows we spent $300 on a $15 bottle of smirnoff orz orz orz" XDDD

That sucks. Se7en did the same thing, well that's not true. He performed maybe 3 songs max and we only had to pay 25 or 35 dollars. But it's frustrating going to a club and waiting all night for a quick performance. I would've thought he'd performed some of his other songs if he was tired of doing just Gangnam style. O_o

edit: Just saw the poster and nvm. PSY's poster totally indicated he was only doing one song. They brought this on themselves. XD

Why were they expecting him to perform any other songs when that's the ONLY song everyone knows? Heck even PSY himself said he was gonna perform one song so why shell out 3000$ for that?

excuse me but when they say

"people in booths who paid more than $3000 for table service to hear one song."

dat means these people bought drinks, food, etc also so they got what they paid for. they weren't paying 3000 dollars for psy

they would have not cared for any other psy songs lbr not that im saying that they aren't good songs but i feel non-kpop fans have no or little patience in listening to songs in a different language than their own. I'm glad they were disappointed which means they might actually listen to other psy songs.

Australia, why do you embarrass me so? And anyway, it's not like anyone wanted to hear anything BUT Gangnam style. Let's be honest, if he did any of his other songs, they would probably release and article saying 'Fans disappointed with PSY's other songs, only wanted to hear him sing Gangnam style.'

lol, at first i thought they got trolled, but now i think they should just be disappointed in themselves if they paid that much for a single performance without drinking and eating to their hearts' content

That's not what happened, no one paid that much for Psy, that club is expensive to get into in the first place, nights when it's just a club club, entrance fee is $100, and drinks are concomitantly expensive, a VIP experience at the club which includes a table at the front, and all the booze you can drink (within reason) costs around 3k.

I have no doubt there were quite a lot of B,C and D list 'celebrities' there hoping just to get themselves photographed being there, considering how big Psy is. Anyone else who paid $130 just to hear what was promoted as a LIVE performance of Gangnam Style singular and nothing else deserved all they got, considering he performed a free mini concert on Sunrise for people.

Obviously people learn to need to read, however I am not surprised that the backlash has started, there are any number of so called 'serious' music journalists who absolutely despise Psy, Gangnam Style and by extension KPop, you only have to read their columns where they lament that KPop is shallow and cliched and appeals to the lowest common denominators in popular music.

In other words, we're all lower class bogans, chavs, rednecks and what ever the equivalent in Korea is with bad taste in music.

Actually it only costs $30 to get into Marquee on a normal club night and its $60 when theres someone famous there performing/dj-ing etc
