(excerpts)

South Korean singer Psy has missed out on scoring the first K-pop UK number one single after being held off by The Script and Example.

Psy's track Gangnam Style has become a global phenomenon and the video featuring his famous horse-riding dance is YouTube's most "liked" of all time.

Last week's number 37, it climbed 34 places to three but failed to knock The Script's Hall of Fame from the top.

**********

South London rapper Example's new entry Say Nothing went straight in at number two, with Gangnam Style finishing just 1,700 copies behind.

Sales of the K-pop star's single increased by a staggering 446 per cent this week.

The UK release date was brought forward by several weeks after the video notched up more than 253 million views over the last two months.

The Official Charts company said sales were showing no sign of slowing down so Psy could still stand a chance of topping next week's chart.

Around 10 million new people each day are watching Psy's dance moves, but back home in South Korea the 34-year-old has already produced six albums and is an established star.

Could this be the highest ranking for a Korean artist in UK? It was not mentioned in the article.

I haven't heard anything about it in the UK at all so I was quite surprised to see this!

I didn't until last week and all of a sudden the mummies and people on my course know what it is. Some like it, some don't since it's not in English and is by some 'weird little Chinese man' - THE SCHOOLING I HAD TO GIVE.

I wouldn't say it's a massive thing but I have heard one or two people talk about it.

I saw it on TV once that's about it, and Digital Spy bashed the shit out of it by giving it a 1 star rating lol.

Scott Mills made it his song of the week on radio 1 so he's been playing it a hell of a lot.
It's also on tv quite a bit but apart from that, yeah.

Yeah he's been soooo hyped about it for a while now! He even made Psy promise to come to the UK if he got no.1 which he didn't in the end :/
I've just seen it on random music channels like Viva. Just when they do their chart shows. It came on today in our common room and I went wild then taught everyone the dance lol xD

This is the first time a South Korean has charted in the UK in history so TOP 3 is amazing. I'm glad it never went to No1 because then people would scream about him being over exposed as they love to do here in the U.K.
