Psy‘s official YouTube channel has just released a footage of Psy and Scooter Braun (the talent manager behind Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen) regarding the recent announcement of signing with Island Records.

Braun speaks of “breaking down barriers” and to commemorate the occasion, he and Psy take a shot of soju and shake hands.

Check it out below!

Wow. I actually think this is pretty cool! I'm incredibly curious as to what kind of music he'll pursue as part of an American label. I have so many feelings about this, haha.

hope he does an awesome english rap track with a good hook. i think it'll be okay to still do funny, parodic type songs. His whole image concept right now is simply having a good time, not taking yourself too seriously. I look forward to it :)

lmao i posted the same video but i wrote my own blurb (i deleted mine though) which i recommend everyone should do btw if the main focus is the video, one can build an ~original~ article around that video.

I have yet to be convinced that Gangnam Style is really going to be more significant than Dragostea Din Tea, but kpop hallyu does have more behind it than... romanian pop music... so not making any predictions or anything. XD

But he hasn't really broken any barriers just yet. If his career took off with a serious song, instead of a novelty one with a quirky funny dance, then it might be safe to say that he's getting close to breaking down some barriers.

oh i didn't know he actually signed with them. I thought it was just like meeting or whatever. i thought scooter would sooner go for signing a younger sexy kpop star so this is interesting... wonder what will come out of it

uggh the comments on youtube, people who don't want kpop to become popular and "to stay 'hidden" because they don't like when others listen to the same music and don't want kpop to change, ewwww.

Those people are hilar to me, as are those who - upon the rumours of Psy possibly collaborating with Justin Bieber - were all UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH JUSTIN BIEBER SUCKS THOUGH HIS MUSIC IS FUCKING TERRIBLE K-POP FOR LIFE. lmao Sorry to burst your bubble of delusion, people, but Justin Bieber's music is no different than K-pop and some of your oppars and unnies are even Beliebers, so.....

Lol'ing.

They're essentially saying, "I don't want this hyper-commercial music I listen to sell out!" and that's just hilarious to me.

Also: dear fellow international kpop fans, we are not special snowflakes for liking mainstream music that comes from another country. Get over it.

That bottle of soju is so tiny, Braun can't get fucked up on that. Now, four of those in one evening and you've got a major problem .. and a major hangover to anticipate.

Anyway, good news for Psy!

Good luck to him but where can he go from here in the US? It's very hard to follow through on something most people consider a novelty song.
Anyway I still think it's hilarious it was him who made it and not idol(s) AND he wasn't even trying!
