Yonsama and Ji-woo-hime together in Tokyo

Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo, appearing together in Japan for a Winter Sonata-related event? Will the Tokyo Dome be able to contain the excitement?

Choi’s management announced on June 23 that the pair would appear at a special event in Japan on September 29 in advance of the Japanese broadcast of the animated Winter Sonata. Both actors lent their voices to dub the project, reprising their characters Joon-sang and Yu-jin from the 2002 original.

The event will take place at Tokyo Dome, and also be broadcast live via satellite into theaters nationwide to an overall audience of about 50,000.

Choi Ji-woo explained of the animated project, “The plot is basically similar to the original drama, but it has its own unique flavor and a fairy-tale-like feel.” The animated series will broadcast in both Korea and Japan this fall.

Bae Yong-joon will be pulling double-duty; the very next day, at the same venue, he will hold an event celebrating the publication of his book, Korea’s Beauty (working title).

Will BYJ's book draw more fans than Big Bang's Japanese release party? We'll see....

They're not holding their release party in the Dome, but only in one of the halls of Tokyo Dome city.

I'm not sure about this, but considering they'r aiming for 10,000...it's definitely one of the halls.

But WOW. 10,000 Japanese fans. I might get bricked but I'm actually interested by this level of confidence by Big Bang. My instinct tells me they'd meet the quota though.

There are a lot of Hallyu fans in Japan though.

I'm thinking that Big Bang is at the first stage of expanding overseas. It's still a happy time. The bad part is when reality sinks in that you're a rookie who has to start from the bottom to have your name out in the country you've decided to work in. With the language barrier + musical differences they carry from normal Japanese music. Will they conform to the culture to make it big or will they be lucky to have a huge breakthrough?

I'm very interested on how they would be handling that. I'm no Big Bang fangirl, but I want another success story.

Some people think language barrier is their enemy. I personally think musical differences would be more their problem. Big Bang is a bit too fierce for Japanese taste.

Honestly?

Pretty much unknown. They might be familiar to people here and there, but yeah. As of now they are basically no-names yet.

DBSK mostly came into the consciousness of the Japanese people when Lovin You was released ven if they had a lot of singles before that. It could pretty much be considered their breakthrough. Their Summer Dream single only sold so much because of the handshake sessions. But their first real hit in Japan would be Purple Line and it was an upward climb for them from there on. Actually, they only became truly popular (guesting on major TV shows, sold out hailed venues) from Doushite Kimi wa Suki ni Natte Shimattandarou and hopefully, they continue with the momentum until the future.

They're pretty well-known now. Not as big as JE bands, but definitely one of the more popular groups in Japan which for me is a big feat considering that they are foreign.

a jvip said BB's release party is actually at Venus Fort, some venue in Tokyo. not Tokyo Dome as leaked by the press.

that's a relief, tokyo dome is too much.

...i'm really glad all these korean stars get this opportunity but it's still a little off-putting with Dong Bang had to work so hard to get to Tokyo Dome ):

Bae Yong Joon is more popular in Japan than DBSK is. Like majorly. I watch random popular dramas and he gets mentioned. Or on some Japanese shows, they even talk about him.
