I really loved the way, everyone was smiling when Heechul and Hongki are on stage, you could tell that the audience was really enjoying their performance. :)
lol i saw those comments, but nah it wasn't. Their performance had so much interaction with the crowd, of course they'll win! While it wasn't wow vocally, their chemistry overall was amazing and gave the crowd a show.
I think his voice is so unique, and in a group filled with impressive vocals like 4men his voice usually stands out too, so i was looking forward to how this would go.
One thing I noticed(not just on this show, but also on other stages) is that the ones that get praised for vocal talent in idol groups, roars through performances whether it's a duet or a song meant for harmonizing. It's a little turn off, cause sometimes belting through to stay at the position as the "noticed" one doesn't always sound pleasant. It's as if they are afraid of getting overpowered, so they just shriek out all of the impressive "wow-worthy" notes they can reach :/
I like how Yongjae slowly build up the vocals for the song and didn't go full-out when it started picking up its pace, but there were parts where I felt like Hyorin could have connected with Yongjae better and found a harmony, or idk.. some really strong adlibs were not needed(especially when she started roaring through and her voice cracked). She has a strong voice, there's not much power she has to put in it for it to start coming off as if she's shrieking tbqh.
I agree on you what you've noticed. I haven't watch Hyorin's performances yet, but this has been a major complaint of mine for years. The ones in idol groups praised for vocal talented tend to actually be better at vocal acrobatics than singing. I understand why it sounds impressive (American Idol and such competitions are the same. It was also what they highlighted in the promos for this show) and they are trying to prove themselves, but after awhile it gets really really annoying. I want to hear people sing, not hit really high notes. It take a a lot more control and vocal maturity to do that and convey all the necessary emotions. I think that why I enjoyed the Hongki-Heechul duet so much, becuase neither of them were trying to out shine each or needed to, they just gave an excellent performances and a true duet.
Heechul did a pretty good job with his duet with Hongki. LMAO at the Chocoball shoutout they did in the end. G.O.'s duet was kinda meh for me, especially since I know that song as the "Jaejoong-Lina duet."
That Jaejoong and Lina duet was by far the most amazing performance sm town ever had. Seriously. Finally someone with a voice that wouldn't be overpowered by Jaejoong and they had so much feel! Brings back memories now that you mention it!
IKR..it's a fun and lively performance..i'm smiling all the way through it..their voices surprisingly blend well together.. Hongki at the start killed me..adorable+ beautiful voice..
omg the performances are really amazing. Hongki's was my fave bc Heechul was there and I'm biased lol. ngl, I teared up because Heechul did really well and I'm just happy that he gets to show off his voice and he looked like he was really enjoying the perf
I just wish Jiyoon hadn't come in during duet week. She did a lot better than I expected she would, but I wish she could have been judged solely on her performance she might have done better. I dont really agree with any of the placements especially not first place.
lol I totally rambled that I forgot to say my fave points: Changmin's new hair, Lee hyun's everything, Jiyoon's emotion, Junsu's being Junsu, Hongki's nails and G.Os whole performance . Overall great ep.
Nevermind, I found out by following the tags. Also, watching this again a second time, I think Hyorin needs to learn how to better handle her voice. She's got a beautiful loud powerful raspy voice but somehow I think she needs to tone it down when it's needed. She has a tendency to oversing. (like a lot of other singers. I don't quite mind it but I wish to see more...self-restraint at times so I can better appreciate when she suddenly goes BOOM!).
Also, I loved Hongki/Heechul's duet. Wasn't surprised that they won. Haha - side note Happy Birthday Heenim!
Totally agree with the winners. They gave a great duet and performances. The only so far that I've found that wasn't about vocal acrobatics. Though, I did enjoy Changmin and Lee Hyun, they also seemed to be having a lot of fun on the stage.

I'm so proud of my baby Heechul I admit that despite being a hardcore ELF & knowing Hennim can sing decently well, I first thought his participation with HongKi in this was a joke & never imagined their duet would be the winner
I was pleasantly surprised in this episode & loved the fact that the two weren't delusional about themselves being vocally at a disadvantage compared to the others so without any pretense, they just went in for what they do the best & that is entertaining people while having fun & it paid off because we learn once again that singing isn't always about strong vocals but also about giving the audience a feel of joy & happiness & I think that's what they did
this being said the other perfs were great & extremely enjoyable to the ears as they were musically & vocally a higher level than HongKi-Heechul duet
ps: do we know who will be in the next episode? I can't wait for Kyu's participation
next week is the tournament round, week after is the male vocalist special and the week after that is the female vocalist special. So Kyuhyun probably joins the lineup in August?
hongchul was flawless even though it was more about the performance not the singing.
i liked junsu's too. hyorin tried to sing a bit calmer but she still needed to go all out in the end....but the guy's voice was so flawless ;_; i think i just don't like hyorin's voice i guess.
