Date: 2011-07-04 05:44 am (UTC)Hongki - A fun performance, but it didn’t really demonstrate anything vocally. I appreciate how Hongki wanted to show off the charms of all of FT Island, but I think that might also be his downfall. The people who win in this show have to approach this with a bit of selfishness - they have to put aside thoughts of their group and only think about themselves. It’s a competition and if they want to win, they have to treat it as such. Another concern I have is that he’s going to end up being one note - he has to venture into different styles. If Hongki decides he cares about winning (which he has tweeted saying he doesn’t) then he’s going to need to change, but if he just cares about having fun and making music, then he’s doing just fine.
G.O. - G.O.’s performance was nice. To be honest, I didn’t actually pay attention the whole time. I thought G.O. came off as a bit nervous - his voice was thinner than it usually was, I thought. The dancing was cute, and I liked how he had a sense of humor about his dancing. I thought the way they edited the song was very suitable to the charming kind of persona that he gave off on stage. G.O. came off of as classy and sophisticated, which he doesn’t always get to show with MBLAQ.
Junsu - Oh Junsu. I didn’t think it was as bad as Junsu seemed to feel it was. So yeah, he kinda failed at taking off his jacket or whatever and thus missed a few lines, but he keeped on with his performance and it was fine. I am still of the opinion that Junsu does too much with the vocal theatrics and his voice doesn’t always support them, but the intro bit was good, despite those theatrics. I liked how he really tried to interact with the audience.
Changmin - Changmin is always so fun to watch. I feel like so far on this show, attempts at taking the songs in a more acoustic and breezy direction have not gone over well with the audience. The audience likes those over-the-top in-your-face kind of flamboyant performances, while this kind of style is much more understated. But I thought Changmin’s performance was really enjoyable. I loved the note at the end - it was such a surprise but thus memorable and cute and just made me smile.
Hyorin - Hyorin has the most to gain from this show, as Sistar is the least well-known of the groups represented on this show. But here’s the thing - Hyorin’s not on this show to get Sistar’s name out there. She’s on this show to win for herself. I’m not saying it's a bad thing - Hyorin is a great entertainer and she’s been very clever about calculating the best moves. But because of her competitiveness and because her aim is focused on winning, Hyorin always uses the same tricks that are showy and easily gets the audience’s attention. But being loud and belting is not all that it takes to be a good singer. There’s very little subtlety to Hyorin’s singing. Hyorin really hasn’t branched out very far and attempted things that she may not be very good at so that she can learn from it. And also, I wish Hyorin could do something…classier.
Jieun - Sampling ‘Madonna’ was risky, putting in a song from someone else when your audience is full of fans of the original artist. Using just the chorus meant the audience had to fill in the connections that the idea is to tell your parents that you can take care of your own life so that you can be the ‘Madonna’ that you can be. I thought this was musically a brilliant idea, but not thinking about the audience. This song, like her previous selections, didn’t have enough momentum, which means Jieun didn’t have the opportunity to show off her voice. Jieun was right in her talking bit - She's never done something with the willingness to step on others to get to the top. But this show is a competition and in order to succeed, she does have to make somebody else feel bad. But she didn’t approach this show with the need to win, so she didn't tailor her performances so that she could.
To be honest, I’m more excited about some of the duet partners next week than the normal cast…Especially J-Lim and Lee Younghyun.

Date: 2011-07-04 06:18 am (UTC)HongKi...I actually really didn't like this performance at all. I didn't like the arrangement of the song and I feel as if he's trying to use his spot on the show to showcase everyone else except himself..i.e. bringing in the rest of the group..and he chose HeeChul as a partner next week.
I just really can't get into any of Jieun's performances..I really try to get into them..but I just can't. Listening to the audio is actually better than watching the video but neither are spectacular.
Hyorin..I agree with you completely about Hyorin actually. Last week's performance was actually my favorite by her when she sat down and sang and didn't belt as much.
Can't wait for next week with those partners. n__n

Date: 2011-07-04 06:32 am (UTC)and lol Hongki being butthurt for the 2 vote difference between him and G.O (if my interpretation is correct). they should make it an odd number to avoid ties.
just one thing I hate, when they start with a slow arrangement then suddenly a band comes, I don't like it. it's like I'm about to fall asleep, why do they need to wake me up? maybe that's the reason why I enjoyed G.O's consistency.

Date: 2011-07-04 06:33 am (UTC)I found it really cool Jieun sampled Madonna into her performance, which was a nice touch but she's not really showing off her vocals imo =(
I'm hoping for more performances like Hyorin's That Person Then, Jieun's Reminiscence III and Yesung's The More I Love.

I really liked Changmin's performance the most, then Hyorin, and Junsu, and GO :3
i cant wait till Luna's on the show...i wonder if shes gonna cry before she gets to sing, afterwards, or after the light goes off in the round battles...my guess is all 3...

Date: 2011-07-04 05:23 pm (UTC)And Changmin, omg all kinds of adorable in those backstage clips. Someone was in a good mood. LOL. Hoongki, Junsu and G.O were lots of fun (even though I kept singing "Hey Jude" over the end of G.O's song... >_>;;;;). I feel like Jieun didn't try hard enough this week, when she wasn't singing Madonna she felt to me like she was holding back. IDK, she needs to come harder. I love her but it always seems like she holds back just that little bit from putting 100% of her emotions into it.

Date: 2011-07-04 10:29 pm (UTC)he was the most consistent with great performances since the 1st episode
Hyorin I love you but don't you think it's enough with showing off like that? we want classier, let's say, performances & I'm sure you can do it
(btw congrats on making the boys have a boner, especially Junsu, he was practically drooling lool!)
as for the rest of the participants, they're good but I'm sorry to say that since they joined in I found the show rather boring. I understand it's not their fault, the episodes "themes" weren't good like, say, the BooHwal epiosde whish was the best as far. I might be biased but I want my Yesung back in The More I love You attitude -_-
let's hope the next episode with the duets will be better
the preview is quite interesting (though I'm not sure about Heechul participation as much as I love the man :/ )

Date: 2011-07-05 02:33 am (UTC)if it wasn't for G.O's awkward/badly timed moves and his almost emotionless face he would have slayed err'one this time. because vocally he was the most stable and most impressive for me. i appreciated the assgrab though. 8D slay.O will slay dem all next time! 8DDD
bb, if your face would hold as much emotion as your voice does you would be so perfect! ;O;<3

Date: 2011-07-05 10:23 am (UTC)G.O. - i'm gunna be honest here and say i was kinda bored. don't get me wrong - i've been a fan of g.o. ever since his debut with mblaq and he was instantly my fave after i heard him sing for his old group teykeys. but that's exactly why i was kinda bored with his performance: i've seen him do much better!! but i'm still happy he made it so far! he kept it classy and smooth. (;
junsu - i thought he did well, but it wasn't memorable for me. literally. i can't seem to write much about it right now because i don't remember much from it...lol.
changmin - this man knows how to perform. he knows how to light up the whole damn room and just charm the audience like it's a piece of cake. seriously, he's SO GOOD. his voice is like BUTTA. i preferred his performance over g.o.'s, although i admit changmin's song might have been a little too laid back. but that last note was amazin.
hyorin - not my favorite performance from her...though her vocals are still freakin amazing. but hyorin, girl, you gotta start changing things up!! now you're looking a little too showy, a little too sexy, a little too loud. i think it's GREAT that she's getting the attention she deserves, esp since sistar is still down there in terms of popularity, but now hyorin needs to start toning it down and bringing out a classier, more sophisticated side. but at the same time...she looks like she's having a blast every time i see her perform, so part of me is thinking that maybe "toning" it down might be bad afterall. who knows. either way, that girl is a freakin powerhouse and is def one to look out for.
jieun - i was really rootin for her...i felt bad for this girl. but man, this performance was a mess. she tried SO hard too...you could tell. and honestly i think that also messed her up: i think you could see her desperation in this, and so it came out sloppy and just...): shame, really.
