Date: 2011-06-25 04:35 pm (UTC)GO did really well! I thought he gave a very emotional performance and was kind of disappointed when he came 5th :(
Hongki made the stage feel like a concert, I think it was a fun performance and I really liked the tempo change and how he did that little fan handclap thing at the end heehee.
Changmin's just been consistently good and although we already know he has a good voice for ballads, I like how he's showing us something a bit different and even though it was a bit out of his comfort zone I'm glad he got 1st at least once
And Junsu, man 2PM really need some more vocal songs :C the dance break was visually appealing but since this is a singing show I felt it...would have been better to focus on vocals? They already show their dancing talents on stage already, I mean :)
Anyway this is seriously one of my fave shows so I can't wait until next week, or when the whole show torrent is up so I can watch the decision making and Gura's remarks HAHA

Date: 2011-06-25 04:51 pm (UTC)Haven't gone around watching the other perfs but I really liked her performance. It's a lot different from what she usually sings and I totally ship her with Bang Yong Guk, they just seem to gel well together (and they're so cute together too!).

Date: 2011-06-25 05:41 pm (UTC)Also, side-note but I read somewhere a comparison of Jieun's voice to Park Junghyun's (Lena Park) and I quite like that comparison. (They also compared Yoseob to Kim Bumsoo, but that's a separate subject) Both of their voices have this unique kinda thin quality to them, but they also have quite a lot of power. If only Jieun could learn to show it off...
G.O. - G.O. was also mistaken in his choice of song and choice of editing. Just going straight ballad is especially difficult to suck the audience in - the only way to really wow an audience with a ballad is to be incredibly genuine in emotion. It was a great performance, but there wasn’t enough of a climax. The falsetto was probably meant to be the climax, but it wasn’t enough of a “STOP AND LET ME REWIND I WANT TO HEAR THIS GLORIOUSNESS AGAIN” kind of climax. Like Jieun, this was too much focus on performing well musically and not enough focus on performing as an entertainer.
Changmin - Changmin always has fun with the concept of the song, everything from props to dancers - which I really appreciate. There were a couple moments where his voice was technically a bit off. But Changmin’s facial expressions were fantastic. And Changmin was very intelligent about arranging the song so that it had a lively beat for the audience to clap along with.
Hyorin - Hyorin is an entertainer. You can tell from the way she looks straight into the camera with that knowing look in her eyes. In a sense, there’s a bit of calculation there, which is in Hyorin's favor in this style of show, although sometimes that becomes visible, and it just makes her performance not feel genuine. There were a few moments in Hyorin’s performance where her voice was just too rough and almost to the point of grating, but overall, as usual, Hyorin put on a strong performance.
Hongki - Hongki, of course, knows how to put on a show. He always has so much energy on stage. He’s also very likable and funny in the non-performance bits. What I like about Hongki is that he has definitely improved over the years - granted, FT Island songs are hard to sing, I would imagine, but there were some promotional periods in which Hongki would always be flat during the chorus. But his singing is great, although the beginning bit of the chorus was too low so Hongki would end up talking it instead of singing it. But he appeared to really be enjoying being on stage and the ajummas in the audience loved it!
Junsu - Junsu had a strong performance, although the chorus sounded a bit like he was just shouting it and not quite getting on the right notes. His attitude was great, although I didn’t think it was entirely convincing. Sometimes Junsu is a bit much in the vocal runs and stylizations, but for the most part, he kept it at an agreeable level.
Overall, I wasn't as impressed with this week. And you can kinda tell who does well next week from the preview...

Date: 2011-06-25 06:02 pm (UTC)G.O.: ok first off I'M SO HAPPY HE'S ON THIS SHOW NOW! with that said, i think this first performance fell extremely short of what he's capable of. the song was flatlined to me...his voice sounded good but it just didn't wow me. not enough ups and downs. buuuttt i'm looking forward to seeing his progress (:
changmin: changmin once again bringing forth the star quality in a performer: he's got a great voice, awesome stage presence, and he seems to genuinely have fun, which really gets the audience going. personally not my favorite performance of his on the show so far, but still well done.
hyorin: voice is stunning as usual, but not one of her best performances. i almost feel as though she's already reached such great heights vocally that she needs to focus on other areas to improve...especially emotional sincerity in her singing. i think she needs to relax a bit more and really find a way to get emotionally invested in her songs...take yesung for example. though hyorin's vocals were SO powerful and amazing last week, yesung's performance surpassed hers because, not only were his vocals spot on, but his emotions really gave his performance such an amazing quality. i rewatch his performance and can't get enough how how much of a climax he reaches, both vocally AND emotionally. hyorin needs to focus on balancing her performances to bring forth that sincerity and not only have vocal prowess, but a genuinely emotional presence. i also thought the song was pretty boring...
hongki: he did well and was fun to watch, but he definitely needs to bring the wow factor in following eps to hang with the others. i like how he has the shaky rocker voice though; brings something new to the show. :D loved his last few notes too.
junsu: definitely came in with a bang, especially in that last high note. wowza. in other parts his voice faltered here and there, but overall he was really good. i'm not sure if i liked that song selection though...i'm not feeling most of the songs performed this week, i guess. although he did well, i think he can do wayyy better, and that it's only the beginning with him. which is saying something, since he was voted first.

Date: 2011-06-25 06:44 pm (UTC)just to say that I've been listening/watching Yesung's perf from last week every day since that episode aired ^^
definitely agree about Hyorin. she has such a control over her voice that it's perfect already, she needs to go a level higher now by focusing more on the feelings/emotions a song conveys

Date: 2011-06-25 09:31 pm (UTC)he will sweep all the others off next time. he seemed a bit insecure in the beginning and didn't own the stage like most of the others did but vocally he was exceptional <3 maybe with a bit more feeling next time.
junsu did really well too but he wasn't really constantly good so he relied too much on the showy effect for my tastes. i think it's good if you entertain the audience and don't bore them to death but i have the same problem with him as with hyorin, too much show-off of voice range and entertainment while this show should be about good singing imo.

Date: 2011-06-25 09:50 pm (UTC)hongki is one of my most favorite voices in kpop, but i was a teeny bit disappointed because this song didn't show off his full potential. the beginning was really good though, emotional and raw.
hyorin was so good! her vocal range is amazing, and i wish sistar songs would let her sing like this more...
jundyuuu. sometimes i forget how good he really is because of 2pm lol. when his voice gets all rough at 4:00ish asdfsad i wanted to die. and that last note..! so proud to be a fan ;~; i'm gonna be sad if he leaves this show...
changmin definitely deserves first place. not only his singing is spot on, but he really knows how to capture the audience and have fun with them.
MY ONEDAY OPPARS OWN.

Date: 2011-06-26 02:41 am (UTC)Hongki is exactly how I pictured he would be performing. He wouldn't just stand, he would let go of his band vocalist self. His first half scared me though, it felt too low for his voice.
Changmin has the most variety of styles, why isn't he in any stage play? I feel he's leaving so they could squeeze in Jo Kwon as planned, aside from his collab work.
Hyorin has mellowed and has more control on her voice now but she looks more at the camera rather than the audience.
I don't get why they have a Round 1 when the big deal is the Tournament. It's not like the idols are not giving an equal effort to the Round 1. I guess then the tournament score is computed as Round 1 + legend score + audience choice.
KBS should be paying the idols 2x or more what they pay in other variety imo for exhausting their voices.

Date: 2011-06-26 07:10 am (UTC)I thought he did well except for his presence as a singer on the stage.
It fell short and I'm sure he will step it up next week.
Changmin is great. He's been great since day one. Him showing a side different then doing ballads, and him putting his twist on things is creative, unique and refreshing. After watching him, I was left satisfied.
Hongki is amazing as always. He def. interacted with the crowd and gave a good solid performance.
Hyorin is so talented. Her performance was a bit slow but I still enjoyed hearing her sing soultry and beautifully.
Junsu performance was just as great as Changmin. I feel his singing is maturing more which is really good and I agree about 2PM needing to do more songs vocally containing Junsu. He's not the type you should sleep on with that unique voice of his.
I'm really anticipating for next week and I hope they all step up their game just a little.
