Hallyu stars have linked arms to help with the damages in Japan. Having received much love from their neighboring country, they have started relief efforts for this sad reality.

On the 13th, Bae Young Jun's representative company Key East said " After hearing the news, we had a heavy heart" "To grasp the current situation at our company in Japan, we tried contacting them to no avail, it's frustrating", they said.

After 'Winter Sonata', Bae Young Jun represented the start of the Hallyu boom. In 2004, he donated 3million won to a Japanese earthquake damages and a South East tsunami, never failing to help his neighboring countries. Along with his fellow label-mate, Kim Hyun Joong, they started a charity project called the 'Miso Project'

Baeyoung Jun's co-star Choi Ji Woo expressed that she couldn't suppress her sad feelings and said that she will try to do anything that she can to help. Another source said "After she heard the news, she was very sad and deliberated on what she could do for relief efforts" (Sorry I had trouble translating this one)

Ryu Shi Won's local agency offical has personally witnessed the damages and is in great shock. Another local agency officials mother went missing and Ryu is experiencing shock and falling into sadness"

He had a fixed schedule on the 14th in Japan and planned to depart Korea on the 13th which was cancelled due to the earthquake and is in a state of sadness. "In order to console his Japanese fans, he plans to write a letter but is at a loss as to how to go about doing this."

Lee Byung Hun is also at a loss as to what he can do to help. His agency representative said, "We're planning on considering what options we have to help."  As he watches the situation, he can't suppress his sorry feelings.

Kwon Sang Woo's representative, "The damages are so big, we can't express enough sorrow"

Jang Dong Gun has received much love from Japan and has plans to help in Japan. He heard the news while filming his movie "My Way" and was shocked to hear the news. His junior Shin Mina and label-mate was in Japan at this time and confirmed her safety at the start of the earthquake.

Won Bin is also going through a hard time and is planning to help. A representative said "Won Bin is out of the country at the moment but he was very sad" We are planning ways in which we can help.

All these Hallyu stars are heart broken and are all devising ways in which they can help.

One Hallyu-star entertainment agency stated "Japan is where the Hallyu-stars made their money, I think it's a definite that we should repay them back and help in every way possible." Another, "The recent earthquake damages can negatively impact (shrink) the Hallyu wave and are not of help to anyone. Just as Hallyu came about as a result of cultural exchange (literally, 'an exchange of heart'), we must do what we can to deliver our hearts to them" (Thanks [livejournal.com profile] cosmiclatte )

i read this article on naver and did a quick translation so sorry in advance if you think it sucks. if any korean speakers out there catch any mistakes, lemme know.
also, i think its nice to see koreans and japanese people coming together. instead of that bitter sentiment koreans tend to have towards the japanese

god this earthquake situation is so messed up
my family is urging me to leave tokyo, but everything is so calm here
(maybe eerily so...)

i'm so glad to see all this outpouring of support for what is happening,
just as an individual, it means the world to me to know people are keeping it in mind

Stay safe and take care in Tokyo! The situation doesn't seem to be getting better, especially with news of more earthquakes and a possible nuclear meltdown. :(

i have a lot of friends in Tokyo, and it's devastating to see all the pictures and videos of Japan.
Thankfully Japan has built many earthquake resistant buildings to prepare for 'the big one'
If not, the death toll would be a lot higher.
I think the earthquake is something that's easier to recover from, however the tsunami really left an impact.
The effect on Japan's economy will be horrible.
Their GDP is predicted to go down by at least 1%
And I'm going to Japan in May/June D:

That's nice of them. :)

Won Bin's face should never be covered by that ugly watermark.

it's nice to see everyone's support and that everyone cares

I think the last one is a somewhat kind of "It doesn't help anyone if it's approached in a way of 'with the earthquake the Hallyu is shrinking'"

they do need people to help as well, they are short on human recources and everything and cannot do anything with that money now if they can't buy it in japan. railroads are not fully recovered and transport is a problem. if anything they should send more people and food/medical supplies to japan...later on also things to build infrastructure again. the money should be saved for later on when it comes to rebuilding etc.

Another, "This earthquake could shrink the Hallyu wave, there's no chance that we are helping."

This isn't translated correctly. It should be: "The recent earthquake damages can negatively impact (shrink) the Hallyu wave and are not of help to anyone. Just as Hallyu came about as a result of cultural exchange (literally, 'an exchange of heart'), we must do what we can to deliver our hearts to them."

instead of that bitter sentiment koreans tend to have towards the japanese

...and vice versa.

you cannot compare both .... the japanese don't really care bout koreans but the latter cannot, cannot exist without anti-japanese sentiment ...

i mean all the ramen, kimuchi, kimono accidents just for a starter...

From: [identity profile] seobyo.livejournal.com
you can't really say that the japanese don't "really care" about the koreans
trust me, there are anti-korean feelings out there, too

and i'm not here to try and start some korean-japanese flame war
heavens no!
i was just stating that both sides have issues to solve

... I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, it's good that they're doing something. But I feel like mentioning this as damaging to "the Hallyu wave" and therefore profits for artists is kind of ... not on.

So conflicted.
