The Bureau of Immigration on Tuesday said it would expel and blacklist 86 more minors from South Korea and two others from Japan caught studying in various illegally operating language tutorial centers as the bureau continues its crackdown on illegal foreign students.

The operations came following a BI raid earlier this month at the Fantasy Island resort complex in Lemery, Batangas, in which 70 Korean minors were found studying in a clandestine English tutorial school run by seven Koreans.

Immigration officer in charge Ronaldo Ledesma said he has ordered an investigation into the possible involvement of some immigration officers who allowed the influx of foreign students into the country without study permits.

According to Ledesma, aside from the latest batch of 88 arrested students, 16 South Korean adults are to be deported for illegally operating the language schools in question and for facilitating the entry of the minors into the country.

do you think all the minors knew that they were in the country illegaly and studying in illegal tutorial centres?
I know many of these illegal language schools can advertise themselves very well and make it appear as if they are a respectable organisation. It is getting harder and harder these days to track the legitimasy of some firms/organisations.
That being said I'm sure that out of 86 people at least some knew what they were doing.

true that...

but I think itäs not even the kids that knew, but the parents since they are talking about minors

D'oh... that who I meant to say. I've known sensible adults who get duped just as easily, so I just wondered. It's just that blacklisting all the minors sounds a bit harsh. Then again I don't know how deep their investigation into this was so maybe it's justified.

maybe, but I also think it's such a knee-jerk reaction

just for the sake of doing something....I mean it's not like they were there to stay or anything...

Wasn't there an article recently about schools having to "hire" robots to teach English? Hahaha.

they don't "have" to. Koreans are cheap and robots don't need vacation days or medical attention .

I guess, but it can't be cheaper than studying in Korea, I mean you don't have to travel anywhere....
