Flashback Friday (on a Thursday!)
2022-03-10 02:17 pmHi everyone! Here’s an early Flashback Friday! Well, early to me. It’s still Thursday where I am. But it’s Friday in some places, and who knows what will happen tomorrow lol. Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 2nd week in March, 2011. Most of the songs have been posted before.
#3 G.Na “Black & White”
This was her first song to reach #1 on the charts. It was the lead single off of her only EP of the same name. The thing I remember the most about the era was the over the knee boots lol. She wore them on every music show with like, shorts or rompers. This song would also give her her first triple crown on the shows. Let’s check out the MV again, it’s been awhile. She stars in the music video with 2AM’s Jinwoon.
#2 Lee Hyun “You Are The Best In My Life”
This is the lead single from the EP of the same name. It is still his biggest selling and highest charting solo song. Lee Hyun would follow this song up with a collaboration with the duo at #5 in this post, and then a comeback with Homme (which OP still misses because hello vocals). Here’s a recent live performance of the song from just a few months ago.
#1 IU “Only I Didn’t Know”
This was the lead track for the single album “Real+”. It was the follow up to “Good Day”, and is much more dark, sad, and sentimental than its predecessor. The song would debut at the top spot. There are two MVs for this song. This version features actress Park Boyoung (a baby here!) and the song’s composer Yoon Sang, along with IU.
Honorable Mentions
#5 Mighty Mouth featuring Soya “Tok Tok”
My favorite Mighty Mouth song. I still do the dance to it when I hear it, I love it sfm lol. It’s one of my all-time fav Kpop songs, always makes me happy. This was the first Mighty Mouth single with Soya, who would go on to feature on a few more songs for them. Here’s a live performance from Music Core.
#7 MBLAQ “Again”
I don’t remember this song at all. It was released as part of their “BLAQ Style – 3D Edition”, which was an album repackage. I don’t think there was an MV for it (although I think a lot MBLAQ official videos are gone now unfortunately), so here’s a live performance with great fanchants. Why is there only 4 of them? Does anyone remember?
A few months shy of 6 years since I started this series here on Omona. Hopefully we can continue on here. But if we can’t, I really want to continue it on the new site too. I’m still having fun with it. Can you believe there are still songs that I’m waiting for? Like I look at the master list and think “how have I not posted that song yet?!?” Something to look forward to, I guess. But thank you all so much for checking out the posts every week. Thank you for 6 years!

Date: 2022-03-10 11:32 pm (UTC)So many memories here and really wish we didn't have to move but I'll follow Omona if it decides to move
Edit coz I forgot to comment about the songs hahaha
2011 is one of the best years in kpop for me! There were a lot of great releases. G.Na's Black & White is a cute song! She's one of the few soloist I know back then. And when I watch MV's of her songs, its cute to find current CUBE artists in the background who were just trainees then.
On MBLAQ, so Mir was missing ang I googled MBLAQ Mir 2011 injury. So yep, he was injured (spine) in Feb 2011 so he was not able to perform with his group when they made a comeback for the repackaged album.

Date: 2022-03-11 02:28 am (UTC)MBLAQ I still love them and miss them I really don't remember that song but then again that was about 2 years before I found MBLAQ :) At first I thought MIR was missing but he showed up to rap and then left. Reading the comments now I know why.
Yes I can still us my MBLAQ icon. When I imported it to DW I could only have 15 so I am still debating which icons to keep and what one's to add that are missing :/ (Not sure if I can pay money to get more or not) it was so confusing trying to read what you can pay and get!

Date: 2022-03-12 09:01 am (UTC)I will interpret it as "I'm very grateful for the window into the past and celebrate the work of OP who should do whatever you arey wants."
Also, math is hard, years are math, and I now look forward to future years when comebacks I experienced are showcased! 🤗

Date: 2022-03-11 02:40 pm (UTC)I sadly don't remember the songs here, except for Black and White. pity g.na's career never really took off and she was stuck with these sugary ish songs instead of being a vocalist
