Hybe, the agency behind the global K-pop sensation BTS, will premiere its original webtoon and web-novel series starring the seven-member band and other artists of the firm’s labels this week.

The agency on Wednesday said “7Fates: Chakho,” a web-comic and web-novel series based an on original story featuring BTS, will be unveiled on Saturday via Naver’s web comic platform, Naver Webtoon. Two other episodes, “Dark Moon” and “The Star Seekers,” each showing boy bands Enhypen and Tomorrow X Together, respectively, will be released in order over the next two days.

First up is “7Fates: Chakho,” an urban fantasy genre inspired by the idea of Chakhogapsa, or tiger hunters of Korea’s Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). The episode tells the story of the seven boys, who turn into tiger hunters. They overcome various hardships and fight through a chaotic world together to discover their fate.

The next episode, “Dark Moon,” set for release on Sunday, is a vampire fantasy involving the seven members of rookie boy band Enhypen. It will be followed by “The Star Seekers,” a low fantasy fiction starring the five bandmates of Tomorrow X Together as characters with magical powers on Monday.

Hybe will drop an official story video of “7Fates: Chakho” at 9 a.m., Korea time, on Friday ahead of the first episode‘s opening.

The upcoming fictional series is a part of Hybe’s move to expand its original story business. In November, the company announced its plans to develop the intellectual property of its artists and create more diverse stories and fresh contents for fans.

The series also marks the first project released by Naver Webtoon and Hybe after the two companies in August announced a partnership to create web-comics and other related contents starring the label’s musicians.

The episodes of Hybe’s new original series will be serviced in 10 languages via Naver Webtoon’s global platform.

Do you read webtoons? What are some of your favorites? Would you read any of these webtoons by Hybe?

Honestly they deserve to be clowned for this as much as people clown SM for that kwangya shit...if not even more lol. They're THE most popular, richest boy group in the world — why are they making comics, being the shopping channel, living that mickey mouse life? Why can't they just you know, make music 😤?

End of rant ~☺️🌸

(sorry friend I'm in a mood ever since yesterday's news 😭)

And actually I love reading webtoons (not gonna be reading this one though 😂)! Currently reading: I love yoo, when Jasy whistles, Midnight Poppy Land, Your smile is a trap, Purple Hyacinth. I have a tendency to begin and drop alot though, and that's way too long of a list lol. Some of my completed faves are Winter Woods, a good day to be a dog, and Unholy Blood.

yesterday's news??

anyway yeh you're right they should be clowned, how have they like only 1 new fucking song in 2021 and then just remixed the fuck out of it?? obv to milk fans on top of the tons of shit merch. ridiculous

About Taemin 😢 it has made me sad and mean...well meaner than usual lol.

Ugh yessss😤! At this point it's like this isn't a group that makes music anymore, they are essentially a brand, the shopping channel, and the male equivalent of Blackpink, but people are not ready for this conversation lol.

aw ;~;

Oh tbh I've already considered them to be similar for a while lmfao ppl like to think otherwise bc they ~self produce!1!!!~ but only when it suits their narrative lol

From: [identity profile] memei5.livejournal.com
just curious, do people/fans use the term self-produce for them pretty often?

From: [identity profile] nudrive.livejournal.com
Literally yessss, all the fucking timeeeee, they act like they're the only group who writes their own songs. But only when it's convenient when Suga featured that piece of shit Jim Jones in a song, suddenly their tune changed! 'it wasn't him, he didn't write it!!' despite him working on it and playing that bit on video, literal proof but our poor baby didn't do it! 🙃🙃🙃🙃

I'm so tired of it? Writing your own songs doesn't automatically make you better than everyone else. Multiple groups are ~self produced~ it's not that rare 🙄

Especially when they come up with that shit or misogynistic lyrics. Like after writing several gross songs Namjoon said that he asks a female manager or someone to check his lyrics and fans ate it up... Like wtf?? He can't tell if his lyrics are gross himself? That's fucked up bro.

ooooohhhh damn. i did know about the suga thing and the switch up in who apparently produced it

this made me do a quick glance over their tracklistings on Wikipedia and theu definitely write, but I think there's only a few songs where they're the lead writer and even fewer songs where they produce. I'm definitely not discrediting them for their involvement, but I had assumed they had more involvement or control? To me self-produced would be groups like Seventeen, G-Idle or Pentagon, where they're the primary producers and writers.

I think people use the 'self-production' tag as a way to score in fanwars and they're not actually interested in the music itself. I stan Seventeen and i didn't get why some fans were annoyed at the number of new people involved in their latest track when all of them were established musicians/producers in the pop-punk/rock scene which is the new sound Seventeen were working with (although the criticism about hitman bang's involvement in the last album was justified to me lmao) I think certain groups who get criticised for their music (like gidle's work being considered repetitive or skz criticisms) would benefit from being able to collaborate with new producers. Also...there's an element of elitism that borders into misogyny in some arguments but that's a totally different topics lol

Anyway, all that to say...the way fans talked, I thought they were fully the creative control behind their music

Re: your last part, same with Wonwoo from Seventeen — luckily he hasn't released any music that was misogynistic at any point but the fact that he said he gets it checked with female colleagues is just...Eye rolling. Men. Charitably, at least they care. Uncharitably...you lack that much common sense?

Yeah tbh I don't get why fans care that much and idky they expect groups to do EVERY part of the song writing process and do it all by themselves, I highly doubt any of them are doing the post sound mixing or whatever. Even Woozi/ Seventeen don't do everything by themselves bc they have Bumzu. Like there's a reason why producers and songwriters exist :| Although it is nice when the members are involved in song writing and producing like DAY6 have been heavily involved since debut, esp given that they had to write like 100 songs in order to debut. Also I feel fans need to look at it more critically and realise that every groups circumstances are different?. Some groups have had no choice but to be involved: Seventeen, others have been given more freedom from the start: SKZ and others would've liked more freedom but weren't able to (blanking on any examples of this rn) or only got to after some time: GOT7, TWICE (I think, I know they're a lot more involved nowadays) etc. oh and ofc groups that don't want to/ care about writing their own stuff which is perfectly fine too.

Yeah for real that was justified bc ew bang pd ew.

Wait Wonwoo too? :| Oh yehh didn't he say gross things about snsd back in the day when he was an anti.

God fans are so dumb lol:

lyrics of svt's songs were respectful towards women. A misogynist would ever ask for women's opinion for HIS songs? He wouldn't care if he was. But turns out that he isn't.

Exactly like you said. There's professionals for a reason and I don't think it's fair to expect writing/production to also be a skill idol need to hold
Twice do write a lot on their b-sides — I really do love their bsides, all bias aside lol. I feel like Twice stans are pretty reasonable about their involvement but there's some groups that really overstate things

In Wonwoo's defence, he was about 11 or 12 when he was an anti and he posted a pretty extensive apology and hasn't been involved in anything misogynistic since debuting, so I won't hold preteen actions. But fans are so annoying about it — it's the bare minimum to be conscious of your lyrics, not a shining paragon of feminism. And it's just putting the onus on women for unpaid emotional labor of these male singers

From my experience, a big resounding yes. I feel like most of Omona knows my kpop origin story (if not, you're about to have a et tu brute moment 😂) but it was bts lmao and in my early fetus-kpop-fan days, I was fed the narrative that they were the only. group. ever. to produce/write (by armies), and how they weren't "manufactured" or like other boygroups. Getting into and discovering other groups, particularly SHINee/Jonghyun, opened my eyes and probably marked the beginning of the end of my bts journey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

lmaoo my intro to kpop was super junior so i am not one to judge!

i had assumed they had more involvement in their work but i think bts and hybe are an example of marketing done really well, and how fandoms are important in making fan narratives

it's not just a bts thing either — there's several groups that get lauded for their musical involvement but when you check, it's minimal compared to others and i'm always??? how did this become so accepted lmao

This seems a bit much. Maybe they just wanted to take it easy last year.

Date: 2022-01-17 05:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] babycheeses1.livejournal.com
We can agree to disagree. From my point of view they seemed very booked and busy with everything but music: the UN thing, the 2984934 merch and all the shooting material that goes with it, the comics, the cfs, the collabs, the misstep singles, the LV fashion show. That doesn't sound like taking it easy though does it?

From: [identity profile] tiffturn88.livejournal.com
That's fine. They are always booked and busy for years now with side things even when they put out a lot of music. I wasn't referring to that. I was addressing your point of them not being a musical group anymore simply because of one year of them not putting out a lot of music and taking it easy. I thought that was a bit much, especially since they did put out music. You may not have liked it, but it came out.

So legit I was browsing webtoons looking for something new to pick up and stumbled across a BTS webtoon without...realizing it was about BTS (it just said seven guys, okay? No names, and I don't really know all the real names of the dudes in BTS well enough to recognize them on sight anyway). And it was kinda cool, since I love time traveling.

So I hit up the new one, and the art is way better, but also if anyone in BTS is in it I haven't seen them yet, and I guess whatever? The story sounded interesting enough to me. I guess maybe since I'm not that into BTS I can just enjoy the webtoon as a webtoon? I do love me some urban fantasy.

I read webtoons sometimes. I was reading True Beauty before they decided to turn it into a drama (once of my friends also reads it, so we discuss it when we meet up each week), and I was reading Lookism but then dropped it...

Maybe I’ll do a review? Once they get far enough along. I started the vampire one and it looks interesting so far. I don’t know anything about any of the bands so it’s just a webtoon to me. I like the art a lot.

Oooh that could be interesting, though I'm not sure how fun I would make it lol. I'm gonna check out the webtoon(s?) and maybe the "internet novel" if I have the time and I'll give it some thought, unless someone else does one in the interim

Yeah, there's another app for "internet" or "online" novels which are kind of like the prose version of webtoons, like short chapters get published every week and they're pretty popular. I think I saw BTS is also doing their own series and iirc that's the one k-fans were really mad abt bc by nature these series have a lot in common with fanfiction tropes already, so if BTS does one they're literally publishing their own fanfic 😬

idk how to verbalize this thought but imo this is kinda creepy. their public personas are already a performance and a commercial product, but selling them as fictional characters in all these comics and dramas feels off to me. at least they're hybe stakeholders and likely have a say in all this but idk i don't like it

From: [identity profile] em-cavey.livejournal.com
Kind of touched on this above but afaik that’s one of the issues k-army has with this whole thing as well, they’re saying it’s dehumanizing bc it promotes the idea that idols are malleable characters rather than real people with agency. Granted most if not all of k-pop content is semi-fiction anyways but some fans really do the absolute most in projecting onto, manipulating, and narrativizing idols’ images however they want. But yeah at least it’s unlikely the members don't have any say in this project

Date: 2022-01-16 05:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hallyujah.livejournal.com
I think it's because they'll all eventually be doing military service and they won't be able to monetize their actual pubic personas (nearly as much at least) so they wanna monetize their fictional stand-ins and are building that part of the brand now. But you're right, it is weird af

yeah ia — especially for enhypen and txt, since they probably have less input/sway and i think fans will hold on to any particular image of theirs that's published a lot stronger than bts, who have had years to establish their public images and personas

The art style was pretty good actually

I think this is a fun idea, thereotically, but I'm also a little uncomfortable with it. The fact that it's based on the members obviously gives it artistic license to build the characters in order to drive plot, but at the same time, that doesn't sit right with me. I think it purely boils down to the fact that fans are stupid and I feel a certain subsect will take this as some sort of gospel as to the members themselves and their dynamics, and eventually it becomes a fandom-wide accepted narrative (and I mean this especially foe Enhypen or TXT, where fans won't know as much about them as they would for BTS)

It's one of many recent Hybe choices that make me roll my eyes
