"good to know the bodyguard isnt useless but he couldnt have done that yesterday"

LOL that's exactly what I said! Also, I was like is he sure he can take him on, and all those other dudes - I mean he barely made it out alive the day before 😂.

He's so smitten, OP! Absolutely besotted!

The way I laughed. It was too much.

good to know the bodyguard isnt useless but he couldnt have done that yesterday?

I think he was caught off guard but yeah... that ain't a good look for a bodyguard lol.

Living for the role reversal! The dude as the damsel in distress/candy, and the the girl as the ice cold prince(ess) with a heart of gold? Yes please — the Kdrama Gods should take notes!

Hmm I feel like plot-wise nothing really happened this week though? Anyways looking forward to next week's episodes!

Also, ugh rowoon is so fine. And very tall. And very fine.

(and yeah eff that dude for what he did to lady Kim 😤)

I loved that Hwi had a leading man moment with catching a falling Ji-un. That was the best. I can’t believe it’s already eight episodes!

Also Bodyguard must not have been hurt that bad or he healed really fast because wow.

But also his backstory is intriguing. If he’s secretly an assassin he is playing a really long game.

That Eunuch dude was scary but that moment with the apology was kind of beautiful.

This makes good sense to me. I almost wonder if that was why he was kind of...awful at fighting the Chinese guy the first time around. Hesitant to go all-out so he didn't have to kill Hwi but mission still accomplished, or to solidify his cover by getting injured.

I think he is related (somehow) to the real Hwi's tutor, and when he finds out that real Hwi didn't abandon his tutor and died trying to say goodbye, maybe he will chill out.

If he’s secretly an assassin

If he is, I'm more curious about who's he trying to get? Because it doesn't seem too much like Hwi anymore? Do we know the reason why Hwi's tutor was killed in the first place? Do I need to rewatch episode 1 lol

Best as I could tell from ep 1, Hwi's tutor's political beliefs were in opposition to Hwi's grandfather's politics, and so that was why they got rid of him. Maybe Kim Gaon is out to get Hwi's grandfather? When we were first introduced to Hwi, they zoomed in on his sword and the wooden tag hanging from it, which looked like the same sword and wooden tag the assassin had in ep 2 (or was it three?). But also it looked like maybe the tag had been cut in half? So maybe Gaon isn't the assassin but the assassin has the other half of the tag so they're related somehow? Who knows lol. I'm excited to find out!

Sounds from posts on here like this is good? I'm wary of too much palace politics, so I'm tempted hi wait to start until it wraps, but I'm coming off Mr. queen which I loved and makes me want to watch this cross-dress story.

I tried to start last night but was too tired to read the subs + track all the old evil men. I'm so sick of power struggles and awful old men.

it's good but it's not up to par with mr. queen. the editing and some scenes feel off/forced. still i enjoy it so far.

i rarely get SLS but for this one, i'm team hyun all the way!!! i feel like lee hwi has more chemistry with lee hyun so that makes me rooting for him even more.

i find that it's unfair that ji woon gets all the credit for all the work that lee hyun did. and why is ji woon the first to comfort lee hwi after he was told off by the king??? it's more logical to have lee hyun there since he's part of royal family so he would understand the situation better. ji woon is just a royal tutor who isn't required to be by lee hwi's side at all time, unless if he's the eunuch/the bodyguard then it'd make sense. the connection and scenes between lee hwi and ji woon feel too forced. also at the end of eps 8, didn't lee hyun say that he would escort lee hwi so why would he wander off alone in the palace??? no bodyguard/eunuch with him???

i'm really enjoying this drama sooo much! love that we got more of their chemistry the balance politics-romance is so much better. the chemistry between the leads is soooo good (the final scene in ep 8!!!!) and i really like the gender role/power reversals we're seeing with lee hwi/dami coming to save damsel in semi-distress jiun multiple times these episodes. i also really like that the leads in the end really like each other because they see good people in each other. i really understand why they like each other (good looks aside) whereas in some other kdramas i have to more accept that the leads are into each other

in general i really enjoy the main cast as a whole, even though i feel like we barely got to know some important characters like the mysterious bodyguard, for example, and we're almost halfway through the show! i want to know more about the daughter of the minister of war (? you know the one who has heart eyes for jiun), jiun's mom (loved her not wanting to pressure him into a particular career) and the grandmother (bizarre that this actress moved onto grandmother roles now??)

if this drama ends with the bodyguard being dami’s twin brother , the twin brother suddenly appearing or in general dami not being able to ascend the throne because she is a woman (the latter being very likely) i’ll be sooooo annoyed (despite knowing better) because she’s proving over and over again that she’s such a capable, empathetic leader. i really appreciated that they did not completely vilify the chinese-korean envoy guy and that she could empathize with his situation. i also loved the scene where she brushed her trusted court lady kim's hair (i was ready to fight when she got attacked!), that was just such a lovely touch. eun bin plays this character so well!

kind of confused that both the bodyguard as well as jiun were still able to fight after getting quite badly wounded but ok maybe jiun is a doctor of miracles who knows

like i said i am really enjoying the whole cast but i was particularly heart eyes for rowoon these episodes. 🥰rowoon all excited running to lee hwi with his little flower and when he tripped!!! 🥰 rowoon in that pink hanbok 🥰🥰🥰🥰 rowoon as an undercover assassin-type 🥰🥰🥰 and even rowoon in a mustache??🤔 i wouldn't say no tbh

ugh yeah totally all that suffering for basically nothing? what if they throw in an amnesia storyline for the suddenly resurrected twin brother? i think i will riot lol

no encouraging moustache rowoon in my posts thank you lmao
lmao encouragement it is not! i just shamelessly admit that it's difficult for me to find rowoon physically unattractive lol, even with a fake clearly painted on moustache

I took your lead on writing notes to remember things, OP and ended up writing too much lol. I’m enjoying this drama more than I thought I would. I’m trying to stay hopeful that it doesn’t take too weird a turn in the latter half.

- Ji-un needing his ass to be saved by Hwi is my new favorite trope
- Hyun is definitely sensing something between Hwi and Ji-un. I think he’s equally as surprised about how close Hwi is letting Ji-un get as he is surprised that Ji-un has warm feelings and/or loyalty towards a royal considering his general thoughts about them
- Fanboy Ji-un! Flower boy Jung Ji-un! Could he be cuter?
- Her FACE when he saw him with the flower is *chef’s kiss*. That entire scene is *chef’s kiss*
- He is WAY too tall for Joseon era structures LMAO
- Who hasn’t had their stomach growling when their next to their crush. I felt that second-hand embarrassment in my SOUL.
- I love that landscaping is Ji-un’s love language. Even the way he watered the flowers was graceful.
- I like Park Ki-woong but was really confused by his character… was he just drunk the entire time?
- I know it was supposed to be serious, but I couldn’t help but go, “She’s so cute!” when she had to reach up to punch the him. I love her.

- That hug. Eun-bin’s acting *heart eyes*
- I LOVE how Ji-un deals with conflict resolution! I love that he addressed the guesthouse thing head-on and didn’t let it be a thing that would fester between them.
- I love Hwi’s relationship with Court Lady Kim.
- Ga-on being caught off guard does not make for a good look for a bodyguard. And not him being tossed around like a toy caught by an over-energized puppy.
- Did Ji-un go into a sword fight… without a sword!?
- Oh, pretty hanbok! And that weird laugh of theirs is hilariously sus
- I cannot with Ji-un’s moustache. I know it’s supposed to be comical, but good lord
- Can we get some protective gear for this boy, please?
- What’s the time period between Ga-on getting a severe slashing and his recovery?
- The Eunuch’s story was sad, but like Hwi said, doesn’t excuse his behavior.
- Drunk!Ji-un! Props to Byungchan for keeping it together lol
- “I’m not drunk!” *gets dragged*
- I’m living for potential Ji-un/Ga-on bromance
- Ugh, he’s crushing so hard. Smittened. Besotted!
- I’m getting increasingly concerned at Hwi walking around the palace by herself without any protection
- Can I get Ji-un to design my yard, please? He did so well!
- I cannot wait to witness the fallout of that kiss on the cheek

I continue to be so impressed with how well Rowoon balances humor and drama within his character. Each side is never feels out of character and makes perfect sense for his character in each situation. I’ve seen comments elsewhere saying that they don’t like that Ji-un is a bumbling lead, but I actually think that it fits with Rowoon really well. Park Eun-bin is just so wonderful in this role. I can’t say enough nice things about her. She’s carrying the story and character well and it’s great seeing her with all these boys who tower over her lol

Image

So apparently the male lead in the Manhwa was actually Ga-on (bodyguard). The storyline is quite different because I think he was much older and there was a cross-dressing aspect there as well. I’m still reading through it, albeit very slowly. I can’t say I hate the change since I feel like the bodyguard thing has been done a lot in the past.

Also, was this drama pre-produced? It feels like it’s completed but couldn’t find information anywhere. And give me more Ji-un/Ga-on bromance please.

Rowoon and Byungchan's development. 🤣
