omonatheydidHappy Friday! Today I took my mom to the cemetery so that she could decorate our family’s graves for Halloween. So many decorations out! I saw one grave with plastic skeleton hands planted on it so it looked like it was coming out of the grass. Seemed like a family with a funny sense of humor. Wonder if it gave the maintenance crew a scare. Every week I go through the past charts for this day and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back 10 years to the 5th week of October, 2011.
#3 Tablo featuring Jinsil “Bad”
About a month after announcing that he had signed on to YG Entertainment, his first solo album was released. It was broken up in two parts, and “Bad” was one the lead single from part one. All of the songs on this album would chart. It was his first new music in almost two years, due to an Epik High hiatus with Tukutz and Mirtha Bear being in the army. Also that whole damn Stanford mess ugh. The song features Mad Soul Child’s Jinsil, and here they are together with a performance at Inkigayo.
#2 Noel “I Miss You”
This was the lead single from the group’s first EP, “Longing”. Also, their first comeback in 4 years. OT, but I had no idea that they were under JYP once upon a time (‘02-‘07). Doesn’t it give you some 2AM feels? 2AM would debut at JYP in 2008. Anywho! This is still their biggest selling song, over 4 million in sales. I looked up the lyrics and I could see why lol. It’s definitely seems like one of those songs you put on when you are going through it. Sit in the shower and cry kind of song. Sit in the car and cry kind of song. Perfect song going in to winter, too. Here’s a live stage from Inkigayo.
#1 Girls’ Generation “The Boys”
It isn’t one of my most favorite songs from the group, but I LOOOOVVED this era so much. Loved, like, everything about this era. But I did especially enjoy them wearing tiaras on some stages. Because they are freaking damn princesses, all of them! This was the lead single from the album of the same name. The song would peak at the top spot, and is one of their biggest selling singles. It was also their US debut single, they signed on to Interscope Records in November. They would release an English version of the song and begin US promotions in the following months. Since it is been a while, let’s check out the music video again.
Honorable Mentions
#4 Secret “Love Is Move”
This was the lead single from the group’s first full album “Moving In Secret”. I remember this era, but I remember being just okay with it. I definitely liked it better than the group’s previous 2011 releases. Secret was REALLY into retro sounds this year. But this was really successful, it would peak in the top two on the charts and is one of their biggest selling songs. 2011 was also a really good year for them, so I guess the retro feelings worked lol. Here’s one of their Music Core live stages.
#6 Lee Seung Gi “Because We Are Friends”
This is one of the singles from his album, “Tonight”, his first album in two years. It is one of his biggest selling songs, and would chart in the top ten, while the album went all the way to #2. This was released at a busy time, and he just started solo hosting “Strong Heart”. Remember freaking “Strong Heart”?!? Damn, it felt like ages ago. Anywho, here’s the music video for the song.

The Boys styling is so regal and beautiful & I'm always impressed by Seohyuns vocals toward the end

the boys definitely ranks among my least favorite soshi tracks but i loved the styling that era. i can still remember a gif of jessica releasing that bird and it saying something about being the last fuck to give lmao

Oh Love is Move is such a sweet spot, I used to work out to this song lmaooo I miss Secret :(
