BTS has achieved its first four #Hot100 No. 1s ("Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)" by Jawsh 685 x Jason Derulo, "Dynamite", "Life Goes On" and "Butter") over a span of exactly nine months, from September 2020 to June 2021. Date: 2021-06-02 02:55 pm (UTC)With YG’s Baby Monsters debuting later on (and maybeeee the next Big Hit girl group) we can see the true 4th gen competition start amongst the big companies
But on the topic of billboard (not kpop though), I’ve been really enjoying Olivia’s SOUR. When Billie took off in stardom I couldn’t really jump the hype bandwagon despite liking some of her songs. Her stuff tends to drag for me, and whispery slow stuff has to have that special something otherwise I’m very bored. Olivia’s still is on the slower side but has more variance to pull me in. but it’s the storytelling really appeals to me.

Date: 2021-06-02 05:41 pm (UTC)and before anyone can tell me that i shouldn't let fans dictate the way i feel about an artist, idrc because they've had years to actually call them out and they never will, and i feel the same way about ts, so!

Date: 2021-06-03 02:47 am (UTC)I wish instead of getting defensive, fans would think "how can we make the fandom a safer, more welcoming place for everyone?" We aren't just talking about "my faves are better", people have been harassed and doxxed.
It would be extremely powerful for BTS to set a "code of conduct" for their fans. Other groups would probably do it, too. HYBE could do it but it would probably reach more people if BTS did it themselves. It wouldn't stop everyone but it would at least be a step to discouraging racist and sexist behavior.

Date: 2021-06-03 04:15 am (UTC)Obviously artists/labels don’t and shouldn’t have to answer for everything fans do and no one wants to bite the hands that feed them but their fandom is so huge and vocal that they have a unique level of power and ideally someone would take some responsibility or authority over that instead of just letting them do whatever they want. Y’all created this monster, do something other than throw finger hearts at it while it’s going around stomping on buildings. Like if I wasn’t already pretty distant, the way they treated that poor designer who was getting terrorized by army earlier this year would have really pushed me away.

Date: 2021-06-03 06:14 am (UTC)I don't think that artists and labels should answer for fans usually, but army has been harassing and doxxing people who point out bts' issues, hiding and covering up problematic actions, and making up ugly, untrue rumors about artists that they perceive as threats, all for bts' sake. By now, bts should have enough clout that calling their fans out shouldn't affect their bottom line that much, especially if they have as many fans as army say they do. 🙃 I'm probably going to sound really harsh here but imo them acting coy about army considering how much damage they've already caused comes off kind of cowardly, tbh.

Date: 2021-06-03 04:21 pm (UTC)I might just be projecting at this point but what makes it worse imo is that they seem willing to respond when it benefits them to do so. Like after the BTS You Quiz episode, some fans were brigading the show’s message boards, saying they ‘disrespected’ Jin by cutting him out of the interview portion. Jin then clarifies that he didn’t like what he said during his interview so he’d asked the PDs not to air it. Which is good, but it’s interesting that they were so quick to respond to a controversy so relatively minor. I’d guess it’s at least in part bc they want to stay on the best possible terms with an entity as powerful as TVN (and CJ). But if it’s individuals with no significant power to their name having their safety threatened or their career damaged, apparently no one gives a shit 🤷🏻♀️ (The way they handled the Kim Rieul situation was a bad call though bc it got them probably the worst domestic press since Jungkook’s Itaewon outing).
Lol I probably sound like an anti but I swear I’m not, if it was just the members, their music, and Run bts in a vacuum I’d still enjoy them a lot, but everything around them is so utterly exasperating and awful at this point and it stings bc I really did love them so much once upon a time
