Cube Entertainment has denied rumors about (G)I-DLE’s Soojin being a perpetrator of school violence in middle school.

Details of the alleged violence will be placed under the cut:
⚠️TW For Bullying Including Physical Violence⚠️

On February 20, someone claiming to be the older sibling of a victim of Soojin’s alleged bullying posted on an online community. The older sibling (henceforth referred to as “A”) wrote, “[Soojin] called my younger sister and her friend to the bathroom and made them slap each other in the face and sent out a group text that said, ‘From now on, OOO (my sister) is an outcast.'”

“A” continued, “My little sister went to Waw Middle School and was born in 1998. She lives in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. I’m planning to carefully write out and post about the details on an online forum later. I feel apologetic towards the other [members] besides the perpetrator, but I can no longer turn a blind eye to the painful time my sister experienced. The girl who slapped my sister, took her money, and bullied her has become an idol and shamelessly shows her face on TV.”

A person claiming to be the younger sister and the victim of the alleged bullying (henceforth referred to as “B”) also spoke up. “B” stated, “After [Soojin] took me to a bathroom in a shopping complex, she said, ‘I’ll hit her first,” and suddenly slapped me in the face. Then she told my friend who came with me, ‘Now it’s your turn to hit her,’ and made my friend hit me. My friend and I had to slap each other in the face.”

“B” added, “She would make me drink the beverage she had opened and left unfinished and then take my money, saying that I had finished her drink and had to pay her for it. She took other people’s uniforms and wore them, borrowed money and didn’t return it, stole other people’s belongings, cursed at other students when they refused to give her their belongings, noisily roamed around the town riding behind one of the older boys who had a motorcycle, drank alcohol, and smoked.

“I went to the same academy as her, and one day, I wasn’t able to go, but she texted me to come no matter what. I apologized and said it wouldn’t be possible, but from then on she and the group of delinquents sent out a text to me and everyone else saying, ‘*** is an outcast from now on.’ I was so scared that I called her and kept apologizing.”

On February 21, Cube Entertainment released an official statement regarding the matter:

“First, upon checking with Soojin herself about the post about (G)I-DLE’s Soojin that is being spread online, it was found that the creator of the comment is the older sister of Soojin’s classmate from middle school. It is true that the poster heard Soojin and her classmate arguing over the phone and had an argument with Soojin after taking over the call. However, we have confirmed that the poster’s claims about school violence and such were not true at all.

We ask of you so that the members, who are doing their best in every moment to achieve their dreams and are moving forward step by step, will not be hurt anymore. We are planning to take legal action under the criminal law and take all other measures we are able to take as a company against all those who have indiscreetly posted false claims with malicious intent. We inform you that we will show no leniency towards the perpetrators who will be punished in the future.

Last December 15, Cube Entertainment established a committee dedicated to the protection of artists’ rights and interests and have been continuously monitoring the spread of false rumors, insults, and sexual comments and edits designed to cause humiliation toward our artists. We are working on filing criminal complaints through a law firm.

Once again, we thank all those who show lots of love and interest for (G)I-DLE, and [we at] Cube will do our best with all of you for the protection of our artists.

UPDATE: A new person has come out to share their story of Soojin bullying them, and provided school records as evidence of the two attending school together.
Also an actress who also attended school with Soojin, Seo Shin Ae, posted a cryptic message on her Instagram stories shortly after the news came out. It simply reads “None of your excuse”. Shin Ae has been vocal in the past about bullying affecting her childhood and has been active in promoting anti-bullying messaging.
The new developments are found here at pan-choa and the story is still up at @seoshinae IG stories.

i feel like admitting to part of it is supposed to give more credit to the person accused of bullying like admitting a small fault makes it more believable when they deny the rest but it does the opposite to me like if that part is true is it really likely the victims made up everything else based around that one argument idk

it doesnt suprise how many idols or actors are accused of bullying though there seems to be an even greater than average amount of bullying in korean schools and the kind of people who are bullies are selfish and like to think that theyre better than and can do what they want to other people which is a quality often found in celebs anyway

IA with your last point. It's like a chicken-egg thing, fame definitely creates and encourages terrible attitudes and behavior but also it's often people with those attitudes who are attracted to being famous in the first place (and who are cutthroat enough to get there).

It's weird how bullying is so common in Korea. And they don't just spread rumours or call the victims bad names, they actively hit them. Like... what is going on at korean high schools? And no one (parents, teachers) notices it and takes action?

The fact that Cube admitted Soojin knows these people actually makes me believe that this is true.

it's about reputation. they know bullying exists but they don't want to acknowledge it because that's too much effort.

if teachers take action then there'll be reports. then their school will have a reputation as having bullies. they don't want that because more students equals more money.

parents won't accept that their child is a bully, often because children who are bullies are often bullied by their own families. so then the parents have to face that a) they're bullies b) they bullied their own children and c) their children have learned that this behaviour is acceptable. it's a shitty shitty cycle that produces nasty adults who perpetuate the same thing on their own children who start out innocent and then end up as perpetrators.

I won't say that all bullies start out like that. but I've been teaching long enough to realise that behind the shithead bully child, there's often a shithead bully adult.

It's sad that even in todays age, image and saving face in asian countries is more important than health or your own family. :(

Great point. I live in Brazil and we have a very high ranking in the general violence index, but systematic bullying at this level is not common, at least in public schools. We have other issues to deal and an annual bullying campaign, but, at least at the public high school I work as vice principal, recurring physichal bullying is VERY rare. If it happens, the school board has an obligation to register and talk to the parents and all people involved and, mostly, the bully has to transfer schools with a not so good record.

I live in Germany and of course bullying also exists here. I've witnessed kids bullying others, i was also a victim of bullying, hell I've even seen two girls in a fist fight when I was in high school. But I can't remember hearing or seeing physical violence and theft this bad among kids when I was in school or on the news in recent years.
I've been a Kpop fan for over a decade and have heard and read so many stories of idols that were bullies when they were younger, I can't believe that nothing has changed over the years. Schools need to take action to prevent this and encourage students to help each other instead of ignoring or participating. You can't just make students switch schools when it gets out of hand, it has to be written down in their school file so that new schools know about it. Parents should be held accountable. But I guess it won't change in the future and will only get worse.

It makes me so angry how these young and naive kpop fans will excuse any behaviour from their idols. No wonder Kpop companies don't spend much money on a proper PR department, their fans do the same work for free.

Those are some ironclad investigative techniques you got there, Cube.
Ugh, I always think what a slap in the face it must be for people who were victimized to read a statement like this calling them liars and "perpetrators." And it’ll come back to bite Cube in their shady, lazy asses if they end up being proven or further corroborated.

Like there’s a whole cultural history behind the stereotype that celebrities (especially singers) were the nallaris and yangachis or the “bad kids” when they were growing up and it may be pretty outdated but honestly, it doesn’t seem entirely inaccurate 😒

I'm staying neutral for now.
This could easily be a disgruntled classmate. I do find it odd that Seo Shin Ae who (from Soojin's statement) has never interacted with Soojin is stating a cryptic message seemingly in favor of the victim. Unless she was a direct witness to the incident....then all she heard were rumors and 2nd hand accounts?
(I wish we can stop with the cryptic messages. It's more oil to the fire. Please state clearly. If it's proven false, she can easily spin it as she was supporting the victim and then just apologize with minimal consequences.)

Admitting there was an argument is okay, Soojin is just saying an argument did occur but it did not become physical. This (obviously) contrasts the victim's statement.
Not sure how this will proceed on Soojin's side, will she get someone to make a statement in favor of her? Will victim get a lawyer to go to court?

There have been multiple people who have posted about Soojin with really solid evidence. This is by far the most comprehensive evidence I’ve ever seen for any Korean celebrity outed for bullying.

From knetizens’ perspective, Seo Shin Ae’s statement in itself is not cryptic at all. She confirmed it and kept her story up even after fans started harassing her.

I have not read Seo Shin Ae's statement (I will wait for the translations), but for these "he said, she said" cases, I rather stay neutral because I do not want another T-Ara.
I would say the evidence showing that they went to the same school isn't enough. Statements...I guess it could be said statements have power and I've seen people arrested and jailed based on statement alone.

With all the accusations, I would love to see how this could evolve into a better system to verify accusations.
I feel that false accusers have little to no repercussions compared to the accused, so this may be why I feel slightly biased when people jump on the accusers side (Rape accusers, Hwayoung).
For disclaimer: I don't buy G-idle albums nor do I watch Dramas.
