I had a feeling Ikon would join tbqh when news of Kingdom came out. So we got a group from YG and JYP. I am wondering if TVfXQ! being the host was a compromise so that a SM group won't have to join

starship & mnet are feuding right now (after all they’ve been thru w/ the produce series!) so i guess this is the reason why. ngl, i wanted mx on kingdom so i’m a little disappointed but i can understand why they declined to a point. if they’re not on kingdom, hopefully this means that the members will get more chances for solo activities! bcus they were honestly a lock for the concept

Ikon and Btob are pretty huge for a show like this, no? I thought it would only be rookies or nugu groups.

The rookies and nugu groups were supposed to be for Road to Kingdom I think. That was the show The Boyz won so they are part of this line up. Kingdom should be for the regular groups or groups that have a decent fanbase

Not really. I think people confuse the point of Road to Kingdom (which was for nugus and no names) with the other series. Queendom had several big names on it: Mamamoo (one of the big gg’s at the moment), Oh My Girl and Lovelyz (at least B tier groups at the time, Park Bom and AoA (while they are not rocking the charts atm they were definite chart toppers in the past) and G-idle (one of the more prominent rookie groups). Kingdom was likely hoping to follow suit. Unfortunately it seems they can’t really...hook the big ones.

They didn’t eliminate anyone on Queendom I don’t think, but there was always a bottom and a top. And regardless there is a winner.

I have no idea. I think there are many reasons as to why they wouldn’t be able to get a “respectable” cast, but nothing feels concrete. However I think they want to recreate their Queendom cast in a sense. A mix of older acts with fresh upcoming ones (the winner of RoK as well as whoever the choose). So they are looking for names that are clearly not desperate enough. iKon, Monsta X, BtoB and SF9 (assuming they are popular) don’t seem like small names.

Im betting my bottom dollar that either 2pm or SHINee will be attached: both groups are coming back and getting tossed on this show (especially when neither can actually tour) could give them a lil boost if they play smart. A Gen 2 group to compete with the younger acts in a 4 generation playing field.

I’m also betting a non k pop soloist. It would be fun if Cube got Jo Kwon on (he still k pop but like not completely at this point).

from what i understand, sf9 has a pretty substantial & expanding fanbase in korea, but they're less well-known abroad

Now that you mentioned it, Jo Kwon will add so much to this show if he becomes part of it. Just thinking about the stages he did with Golden Tambourine, for sure he'll rock Kingdom!

for someone who hates boy groups i have a lot to say about this LMFAO

first if all ikon???? how the mighty have fallen yay!

the boyz? aren't some of the members from that group from produce 101?? i thought they were pretty successful? like i thought the point of this show is to give the group more exposure/popularity boost. they already have exposure by being on produce and that season was by fay the most successful

same thing with btob i thought they were successful but i guess they lost a lot of fans because of ilhoon?

i feel like the kpop market is so overly saturated rn that at this point any group hoping to find bts level success should just stop seeking it imo even if it sounds harsh, there's just too many groups and too many shows like this. i guess at this point though companies want to send groups to shows like this even if it means a fraction of sales increase for their next releases

edit: okay after reading the comment above now i know this is just the boy version of Queendom. i thought this was for nugus like The Unit or Road for kingdom. so everything i said before is moot lol

i know you said your comment was moot but the boyz only have one member that was in broduce, and it was ju haknyeon! he was one of the unofficial villains of that season and while that did (well, might have?) given them a leg up during their debut era, he got a ton of hate for his edit too and he’s not their face now

i do agree that they could’ve been on kingdom only, tho. they were the most popular of the rtk groups too so :/

Honestly the line up is amazing so far. I'm definitely watching it!
